Li Qingyuan, Jill, Claire, Carlos, and two minor characters whose names no one could remember—six people in total—rode the elevator down. After roughly forty seconds, they finally arrived at the base's main entrance.
It had to be said: Umbrella Corporation was truly rich and powerful. The base was buried roughly a hundred meters underground, and the construction cost alone was beyond estimation.
As soon as they stepped off the elevator, the doors slammed shut with a loud clang, completely sealing their retreat.
Gulp!
Everyone, including Jill, instinctively swallowed hard, beads of sweat rolling down their foreheads.
"Welcome to my territory!"
Without warning, a holographic projection appeared before them. Dr. Isaacs, dressed in white and holding a cup of coffee, smiled at these self-trapped prey like the cruelest of hunters.
"I'm really surprised—you actually had the courage to come here yourselves!" Watching their fearful expressions, Dr. Isaacs felt supreme satisfaction.
"I've prepared a little surprise for you ahead. Now, run as fast as you can, foolish mortals." As a clone of the Umbrella Corporation's highest authority, this clone had inherited the original's brand of madness.
He had spent several days transforming the corridor into a deadly gauntlet. Nearly a kilometer long, it was divided into several sections, each with a unique theme.
From primitive crossbow traps to laser death arrays, from sarin gas to bioweapons—if it could kill, it was there.
The Isaacs clone now stood like the big boss in a labyrinth, eager to see which stage the heroes would die on. He estimated they could reach the fourth stage at best; after all, they were brave enough to come to defeat the Demon King, so they should have some skills.
"I'll go first!" Carlos stepped forward, staring at the nearly hundred-meter-long corridor.
"No!" Claire and the two unnamed minor characters said simultaneously.
"I'll scout ahead. We've come this far; there's no turning back!" Carlos smiled proudly, his eight teeth glinting in the light.
Leading the way was risky, but it was far better than everyone going in together and being wiped out.
"Seriously, are you all always this reckless?" Li Qingyuan looked at the group about to risk life and death, helpless.
Even a fool could see this corridor was a trap—how could they consider charging in like this?
"Is there a second path?" Claire asked angrily, already mourning the imminent loss of teammates.
"Yes, if you want to enter the base, this is the only way!" the electronic projection chimed mockingly.
Of course, the underground base had other corridors, but Isaacs had locked them all with top-level authority. There really was no other way in besides this one.
"Who said there's no second path!" Li Qingyuan smiled. If the clone had just barred their way, they would have been helpless against the deep underground Umbrella base. But now the enemy had foolishly let them in. Following the clone's expected path would be idiotic.
Li Qingyuan tapped the corridor wall. The underground base had been built by excavating soil and rock, creating a tunnel-like structure, then constructing the base inside.
If they could breach the outer shell, they could enter the space between tunnel and metal lining.
These interstitial layers were like the difference between an unfinished apartment and a fully furnished one. With a base this large, moving through the layers was no problem at all.
"Hahaha!" The Isaacs clone laughed uncontrollably at Li Qingyuan's actions.
"The base was built with this in mind. The outer walls are tungsten steel. Even with armor-piercing rounds, you'll never punch a hole in them!"
"Really?" Li Qingyuan ignored the laughing clone and opened a suitcase, pulling out a missile.
"Everyone, step back!"
He fixed the missile to the wall outside the corridor.
"Are you crazy? That tiny bomb won't even scratch the tungsten steel. Even if it did, in such a confined space, the blast wave could kill you all!" The clone scolded relentlessly.
These heroes were utterly reckless. He had spent so much effort designing a labyrinth. They weren't trying to solve it—they were trying to blow up the outer wall. Absurd!
Of course, their foolishness aside, destroying the meticulously prepared corridor would ruin all his hard work.
Li Qingyuan placed the missile and stepped back. Jill expanded her suitcase into a shield, and the group took cover behind it.
"Useless. You'll just get hurt by the shockwave. Better to enter the corridor; that's your only chance of survival!"
Snap!
Li Qingyuan felt like he could cameo as Thanos—just snap his fingers and make the missile explode. Stylish.
A blast of heat and force swept from the missile, but he had adjusted the blast direction, and with the shield, only Carlos felt his arms strain. The rest were unaffected.
"N…n…impossible…"
The explosion damaged some communications, making Dr. Isaacs' hologram glitchy, like a poor-signal video.
"Still sturdy… seems like two more will do!" Li Qingyuan ignored the stuttering projection and examined the blast point. The tungsten wall now had a web of cracks.
The clone, sitting in the control room, had spilled coffee all over himself but didn't notice.
How could the heroes have such overpowered explosives? By all logic, that missile shouldn't have damaged the wall.
Marvel-level tech clearly surpassed Umbrella's bioweapon tech. Combine that with Stark Industries' military-grade weapons, and their missile destroyed Umbrella's fortress like a precision strike.
