Since we had stopped just outside the laboratory where Jamina takes her sessions, Alnitak must have either heard or seen Rigel.
Alnitak's warm hand, which carries a totally different sensation than Rigel's cold one, grabs my arm and pulls me from his hold, hiding me behind his muscular body.
A bone-chilling hiss leaves Rigel as he loses contact with me. "What's your problem, mutt?" The air around him seems to have chilled and even my heart can't handle that cold.
The threatening growl builds and resonates in Alnitak's throat. I could sense his body shaking from the buildup of anger.
"I am going to rip your throat off and then we will see who calls whom a mutt?"
They face each other, eyes blazing, bodies shaking from rage. Alnitak's grip is so tight on my arm that I can't set myself free.
