"No one else can," he answers with a wounded smile that wrecks my heart. 

Synopsis:

My gaze shifts to Amaia and she appears so done with us all.

"Let me go, Alnitak." Quietly, she pulls herself free from my hold. 


"Amaia, I understand, we all do that. It's been overwhelming recently, especially after the oath we took. Something changed in all of us and we became bound to you," I try to explain, pointing towards my brother. 


He will never hurt an innocent soul and he deeply cares for Amaia now. 


"I know he can be a bit much at times. But we will never hurt you. He is the one who made us take that oath."


"Are you really going to feed her that bullshit? Didn't you feel her pain through the bond? Can't you see the bruise on her neck?" Ezran points out. A glare hardens his eyes into two burning rubies.
