There was no explosion, nor was there any attacks.
One moment he was standing atop the Titan's hands, and the next moment his body was separating into perfect cubes.
The cubes fell to the ground pattering against the polished floor.
Everyone's face changed drastically and even the Legacies faces turned pale in horror.
"What… what just happened?" someone whispered.
Nobody had an answer.
"Did anyone see what killed him?" Prince Karlel calmed himself and his eyes were cold as he asked.
Electricity crackling more intensely around him.
"I-I think one of the statues move," Devon, Sylveria's earth-magic protector suddenly said in a shaky tone.
"Just for a second, out of the corner of my eye."
Several others began voicing similar observations, glimpses of movement that vanished the moment they tried to focus on them.
The more they talked, the more certain they became that the statues were somehow responsible for Marcus's death.
Suddenly, Dravin noticed something and with trembling hands he pointed.
"Look at the third angel from the left," Toward the angelic statues. "Its sword."
Everyone turned to stare at the statue he had indicated. The eight-winged figure stood in the same pose as all the others holding its sword in a guard position. But the blade, which had been clean before, was now stained with fresh blood that still dripped slowly on the floor.
"Weeping Angels," Luna whispered,
"I've read about constructs like this in the most ancient texts. They're quantum-locked, they can only move when unobserved, but they're incredibly fast and incredibly lethal."
The silence that followed her explanation was broken only by the soft drip of blood from the angel's sword.
"How many are there?" Prince Karlel asked, though he already knew the answer would be catastrophic.
"Two hundred and forty demons, two hundred and forty angels," Aria counted, her face pale with horror. "Four hundred and eighty guardians total."
"And how many of us are there?" Gareth asked, though he too already knew.
"One hundred and fifty-three," Sylveria replied after a quick mental count of all the expedition members.
Even if each person could somehow defeat multiple guardians which seemed unlikely given Marcus's instant death—they were outnumbered more than three to one.
As if summoned by their growing fear, the slaughter began!
"Ahhh!"
A scout from Mountain Fortress Academy simply vanished, leaving only a spray of blood on the floor.
At the same time a protector from Crimson Rose Institute panicked and tried to turn and flee, only to find his head separating cleanly from his shoulders before he'd taken two steps.
Before anyone could react, blood began to paint the crystal red floor as bodies fell one after the other.
"Back to back!" Prince Aldric shouted. "Form a circle! If we can keep all the statues in sight, they can't move!"
From 150 people, they have all been reduced to 80 people in just a few seconds!
They all quickly formed a circle and instantly, the killing stopped.
For several minutes, they maintained their formation, eyes straining as they tried to keep track of nearly five hundred statues simultaneously as they slowly walked out of the throne room.
Dravin found himself between two of Sylveria's protectors. His face was extremely pale and his body trembling.
Her had been cautious all his life! How come he was going to die here?
"We can't maintain this forever," Vivian gritted teeth, sweat dripping down her face onto her voluptuous breast."Someone's going to blink, someone's going to look away, and then—"
"Then we die," Frank finished grimly.
Their faces turned pale as they thought about their inevitable death.
It was as though the entire world was against them as they stared unblinking at the statues.
Just as seconds turn to minutes and several minutes which seemed as though days had passed passed, the entire throne room started shaking and their situation become extremely worse!
The statues that had been frozen by their gaze suddenly began to tremble.
Stone limbs that had been motionless for who knows how long started to crack as the statues began to come alive.
"Fuck! They are actually waking up!" Luna cursed as her face turned pale.
Everyone had the same expression and even Aria couldn't help but frown.
"Everyone, prepare for combat!" Karlel shouted, lightning beginning to dance around his body.
Stone started to transform into flesh and their eyes were starting starting to burn with fire.
The instant they awakened, they moved.
The demons gods and angels moved with speed not even Sylveria nor anyone in the groups could comprehend!
"ROOOOAR!"
Everyone faces turned as white as paper and before they could react, the angels struck.
However, before the angels could strike out, the demon gods actually appeared before them, intercepting the weeping angels.
What followed was a battle that amine could barely comprehend.
"BOOM!" "BOOM!" "BOOM!"
440 Angels and demons collided in the air, sending out intense amount of mana and shockwaves that the entire building shook violently.
The humans found themselves caught in the middle of the divine war between angels and demons.
Stray sword strikes slashed holes through the marble floor, missed spells created massive holes that turned the ground into magma!
"Protect yourselves!" Sylveria shouted over the chaos, her spear erupting into flames as a flame barrier appeared around she and her team.
Suddenly, a missed hammer blow from a demon warrior struck the ground where Aldric's group had been standing moments before, sending a shockwave that blasted them apart.
A few of them couldn't handle the shockwave and were sent flying vomiting blood.
An angel's wing flap sent three protectors flying into the distance, shattering their bones.
A few of them scattered, abandoning their defensive formation, trying to find cover wherever they could.
But it was all useless. The throne room had become a battlefield where gods and demons fought.
Using her strongest attacks, she could barely hold on. Sylveria found herself separated from most of her protectors, sheltering behind one of the kneeling Titans with only Frank, Vivian, and the two of the masked figures for protection.
The Type III spear blazed with intense heat as she struck out against a shockwave headed for her.
"Screeeee!"
A phoenix cry rang out as she activated her strongest attack.
"Boom!"
She was sent flying, as she vomited blood. Her Tier III combat suit absorbing 50% of the shockwaves.
"Lady Sylveria!" Frank shouted, abandoning his own cover to rush to her. But before he could reach her, an angel's sword strike meant for a demon opponent caught him across the waist.
His body was instantly split into two. His upper and lower body separated into two, landing on two sides.
Sylveria struggled to her feet, using her phoenix flames to heal her injuries.
But it wasn't fast enough.
A demon's claw swipe that missed its target slammed directly on her chest.
Instantly, her body shone as one of the masked men following her suddenly disintegrated into pieces.
A death-replacement spell!
