The royal bed chamber was quiet, too quiet. The faint hum of the curse that haunted Lilith's body reverberated like a mournful hymn in the air.
Vahn sat on her left.
"Lilith," he said softly, "You've been suffering alone for far too long."
Her lips quivered beneath the veil. "Suffering makes me strong. It's the only thing I have left that's mine."
"No," he replied, stepping closer. "You have me. You've always had me, even when you tried to push me away."
Vahn's right hand slowly crawled around her waist, sending a foreign, intense sensation through Lilith's body.
She instinctively pushed it away with her own hand, her eyes flashing with panic beneath the veil. "You haven't made it clear yet, Vahn. Are we just allies, master and servant, or... something else? I need to know the terms before I let you cross boundaries between us."
