Lauren raised her hand to her lips before taking it down, she was doing everything in her power not to bite down on her nails but she was feeling anxious or scared.
She didn't know the feeling but she really wanted to disappear from the face of the earth or maybe the earth should swallow her up and take her to be with her brother because what is this?
She had never been in a close radius with a man who wasn't asking for it. Tucking an invisible strand of her hair behind her ear, she whispered softly to him "wait"
She saw how he stopped in his tracks and turned to her his brow raising up "Thank you for letting me stay the night" as much as he had been an asshole by not answering her while they drove to this place, only giving her a glance and then leaving her in his living room.
He let her stay the night and not to go further than herself, he hasn't asked for anything and pray he doesn't. She didn't want to lose more trust in men.
He cleared his throat "It's fine. You can go to bed and tomorrow we will discuss the rest" with that said he left not even looking at her or turning back once. Lauren looked down at her clothes still standing in the open doorway.
She liked the clothes Martha gave her, it was something like this she wore at home and didn't complain about it. She sighed not knowing why he acted that way, going back into her room to sleep.
The sound of bird chirpings and warm sun filtered through the curtains down on Lauren as she stretched and yawned, the duvet falling down her body in the process.
She smiled bouncing down on the bed, it was so soft that she thought she was swimming in the clouds. Her little brother would love this place.
Her smile dimmed at that thought and she scrambled for her bag to check for any missed calls from the hospital. You never know when the devil works. Rummaging through her wet bag, the housekeeper had told her to bring it so she could dry, but she declined; she found her phone and switched it on.
Thankfully no calls but still she needed to go in before starting her day. In a normal and rich life, her brother was supposed to have his surgery but money was stalling him and anything can happen anytime and she didn't want to take chances.
She sat stiffly back onto the bed as her eyes sting with tears but she rubbed at it before licking her lips and standing up to go to the bathroom to bathe when the rasp from the door caught her attention.
Someone was knocking and she sighed softly praying it wasn't him. She looked down at her clothes and smoothed it down, straightening and combing her hair with her fingers before smiling and opening the door.
"Good morning" she heard his husky voice and almost melted into a puddle but swallowed, bobbing her head before shaking her head like she recalled where she was and greeted him also.
"Thank you for allowing me to stay the night in this big fancy house" she chuckled blinking her eyes and his eyes flickered with something that left immediately. She continued in her world staring at him not noticing the little one in his arms until she made a squeal earning Lauren's attention.
Her jaw dropped at the sight of the little girl. One thing she loved was children and wanted to be a pediatric nurse but life struck her and she left those dreams for another life.
"Wow" she mouthed. She wanted to touch her but remembered her place and knowing not everyone loved people touching their children. Children. Was it his child?
She stepped back, if it was his child that means. He has a wife. Lauren tried excusing herself saying she wanted to prepare and leave, feeling like cold water was just poured on her.
"Do you want coffee?" Lucas asked, seeing the way her face changed from cheerful, like she was eager for something then it died down straight away.
"No thank you. I will be out in a few minutes" and she closed her door. Lauren slid down her door to the floor. This was the first time she cared if the man she slept with was married. She never cared since most of them came to her and she never dared reject the money and tips they gave.
And now here she was sitting down on the floor thinking about a married man who she had asked or tried to force to sleep with him. Uhh she groaned burying her face into her hands. Who knew what he must have thought about her seeing her that way.
There was a first for everything and this was it, she was doing everything for her brother and never complained to anyone. Not like there was anyone to complain to. But at least, she'd never felt ashamed of herself and actions until today.
Brushing her teeth with the spare toothbrush she saw in the bathroom, she took her bath and put on the dress the housekeeper gave her with the night clothes. Her clothes were dirty and still wet so she couldn't put it on.
Arranging her bag, she stood up to leave. It was only a night and she knew she was going to miss this place. She breathed out and left the room knowing it was going to be hard.
