The woman's eyes narrowed,her mouth shutting slowly as she swallowed the rest of her words annoyance and irritation rippling across her face like a storm she was trying to contain.

Her gaze followed Nana, who kept ascending the stairs, unbothered and untouchable, each step echoing with careless grace.

She moved like she had no idea how deeply she was tormenting the poor woman left in her wake.

The sharp koi-koi-koi of those stilettos faded—aggressive, violent—until it vanished somewhere beyond the landing.

Kairen's mother exhaled sharply, shaking her head.

"This girl is just…" she muttered, her voice trailing into a sigh heavy with defeat.

What pained her most wasn't even the attitude—it was the jewelry.

All her old jewelry, every necklace and bangle gleaming mockingly on Nana's wrists and throat.

Nana was the untouchable baby of the house. You could get angry, yes, but you'd never raise your voice at her. No one dared.
