Kairen was still lost in the echo of his memories when the door suddenly swung open with a forceful, deliberate aggression, making him snap his head sharply in its direction.
And there she was—barging in like a villain straight out of a Barbie movie—Nana.
"Ahhh!" she let out a sharp, startled grunt.
"Kairen, stop being senseless! What's with the darkness?!" Her voice carried frustration as she strode toward the windows.
"Are you Dracula or something?" she added, sucking her teeth, fumbling with the bolts as she yanked the windows open.
Kairen wasn't the least bit surprised by her sudden flare of temper.
In fact, it tugged a small smirk onto his lips.
First of all, Nana was furious with him for forgiving their dad so easily.
But the real reason behind her theatrical annoyance was far simpler: she had begged him to stay for a few more days, and he had refused.
"The longer I stay, the longer you stay absent from school," Kairen had told her yesterday.
