Chapter 20 - ep.20 No Shortcuts to the Heart

"Hello, Mister… can you tell me your name?"

There was a strange sweetness and style in her voice.

"You see… I'm new to this college too."

Her eyes were now fixed only on Aryan.

Rahul, as if, had been blown away like air.

Aryan gave a slight smile…

and Rahul thought to himself—

"Wow… this is also fine. The mistake is mine, the scolding is for me… and she's taking the intro from him!"

He was lost in his thoughts, and a faint irritation was clearly visible on his face.

Then Aryan laughed lightly and said to the girl,

"Aryan… Aryan Shergill.

By the way, what's your name?"

The girl replied,

"Priya Mehra. You can call me Priya."

At that moment, Aryan's eyes went to Rahul standing nearby.

Pointing towards him, Aryan said,

"And this is my friend Rahul.

He may not impress you at first glance, but he has a very clean heart."

There was a faint smile on Aryan's face as he said this.

But Priya completely ignored Rahul and said—

"Ok bye… I'm getting late for college. So, we'll meet in class."

Saying this, she got into her car.

Just before leaving, Priya passed a quick, soft smile towards Aryan.

But as soon as her eyes went to Rahul, she slightly wrinkled her nose—

The very next second, the car picked up speed and slowly moved inside the college campus.

The moment Priya wrinkled her nose, Rahul's face turned completely ugly.

And just a second later, Aryan let out a suppressed laugh.

"Hhhhhhhhhh…"

Hearing Aryan laugh, Rahul turned around with an irritated face,

"What happened?"

In a questioning tone, Rahul asked Aryan.

"Nothing at all,"

Aryan replied, still holding back his laughter—

as if he was trying hard not to laugh.

Meanwhile, Rahul's face became a little sad.

"Honestly, talking to girls is really difficult…"

he said, lowering his head.

Hearing this, Aryan placed a hand on his shoulder and said with a laugh,

"To be honest, Rahul, today you really found someone who gave you tough competition—

someone who shut you up completely."

Rahul made a face,

"It's not like I couldn't say anything… it's just—"

Aryan cut him off and said laughing,

"—just what?

Bro, I tried to explain it to her, but she didn't want to listen at all.

Now what's my fault in this?

And anyway, how was I supposed to know she'd turn out to be a girl…

and on top of that, so bold!

Well, I only regret one thing—

from start to end, she didn't even look at me once.

But you… she was giving you a direct invitation."

To this, Aryan laughed and said,

"Hhhh… don't regret it that much.

Otherwise, if we get late for class, then you'll really regret it."

Inside the classroom, there was unusually a lot of hustle and bustle today.

Conversations, laughter, movement everywhere—

the entire atmosphere felt different from other days.

As soon as Aryan and Rahul entered the class,

just like always, all eyes automatically turned towards Aryan.

Both went and sat in their respective seats.

But Aryan's eyes were searching for someone else.

Again and again, his gaze went to Mayra's seat—

which was still empty today.

Mayra hadn't come to class yet.

Seeing all this activity in class, Rahul said to Aryan,

"Aryan, I almost forgot to tell you…

the freshers' party is in two days. And everyone is contributing for it."

"And the best part is—

this time the freshers' party is arranged at a famous disco club."

"That means we'll enjoy fully that day," Rahul said.

But while Rahul was saying all this, Aryan's attention drifted elsewhere.

Because just like every day, today too,

Mayra entered from a distance in her classic salwar suit—

And in a moment, all the noise in the class froze on her.

Seeing her, many boys' expressions changed.

"Man… when I see Mayra, I just feel like staring forever…"

a new guy said, staring at her with his mouth open.

Mayra paid no attention to his words.

Her eyes went straight to her seat—

and just then, her gaze collided with Aryan's.

Her steps slowed down for a moment.

And her heartbeat raced for a second.

When Aryan saw her looking at him,

he passed her a gentle smile.

The very next moment, Mayra looked away

and went to sit on her seat.

As soon as Mayra sat down, Aryan wanted to say something to her.

But before he could speak—

Another girl entered the class, once again grabbing everyone's attention.

It was Priya.

With every step she took towards the classroom,

she pulled the eyes of all the boys towards herself.

Most of the boys were staring at her.

But then everyone was shocked.

Because Priya didn't stop anywhere else—

she walked straight and stopped near the seat in front of Aryan.

Looking at Aryan with a slight smile, she said,

"What a coincidence!

I didn't think we'd meet in class."

Hearing this, Aryan was a little surprised.

He hadn't expected Priya to be here—

and that too, so close.

Still, forcing a smile on his face, he said,

"Yeah… that's actually a very good thing."

As he said this, his eyes secretly moved towards Mayra.

Mayra was already looking at him.

Their eyes met for a moment.

The next second, Aryan lowered his gaze

and tried to bury himself in the book.

Then Priya moved ahead and sat on the seat to Aryan's right.

Seeing all this, the faces of the other boys fell.

No one could hide their jealousy.

From behind, one boy muttered,

"Damn… our luck is really bad.

Looks like I'll die single in this lifetime."

Another said,

"And on top of that, this Aryan…

he's becoming more and more popular among girls every day."

The first boy laughed lightly,

"Looks like I'll have to take some tips from him."

Hearing this, the boys sitting nearby burst into laughter.

The class atmosphere became light for a while.

Then the teacher entered the class,

and the noise automatically stopped.

Everyone sat straight in their seats.

Priya sat comfortably,

but her eyes kept drifting towards Aryan again and again.

Sometimes she looked at his notebook,

sometimes at his profile.

Aryan pretended to read the book,

but not a single word stayed in his mind.

Only one thought kept revolving in his head—

"Why is Priya here?

Just a coincidence… or something else?"

On the other hand, Mayra was watching everything.

Her face was calm,

but she was surprised seeing Priya talk to Aryan.

Then Priya softly said to Aryan,

"By the way, you're from science, right?

Can I get the notes?"

Aryan turned to look at her.

For a second, his eyes met Mayra's—

and in that moment, he understood that things were not going to be easy.

"Yes… I'll give them,"

he replied after a short pause.

Priya smiled lightly,

"Thanks."

A little later, just like that day,

Aryan came to the library and sat on the seat opposite Mayra.

Mayra was reading attentively with an open book on the table,

and in between, she was explaining things to Aryan as well.

She was explaining the words,

but where was Aryan's attention on the words?

He was just sitting there, staring at Mayra's face.

Her eyes,

the slight movement of her lips while reading,

and her innocent concentration—

Everything was pulling Aryan towards her.

Suddenly, a light breeze passed by.

Mayra's hair moved gently,

and the fragrance of her perfume slowly reached Aryan.

That fragrance went straight to his heart.

Unknowingly, Aryan took a deep breath,

and for a moment, his heartbeat sped up.

He was already being drawn towards Mayra,

and now this fragrance was driving him completely crazy.

But Mayra was still lost in her book,

unaware that the Aryan sitting in front of her

was getting more and more entangled in her with every passing moment…

Then Mayra said softly with a slight smile,

"So that's all for today. Did you understand?"

Hearing her voice, Aryan snapped out of his thoughts.

He hesitated a little, then said—

"Yes… I understood."

"Good," Mayra said, looking at her watch.

"Now I should leave. I'm getting late for class."

She turned to go.

Aryan gathered courage and said,

"Thank you… for helping me."

Mayra stopped.

A faint smile spread across her face.

"There's no need to say thank you," she said.

"Anyway, this helps me too."

"So… okay," she said,

"I'll leave now."

Saying this, Mayra walked away.

Aryan stood there, watching her

until she disappeared from his sight.

There was a strange restlessness in his heart.

He murmured to himself,

"It's a matter of the heart, Aryan…

there are no shortcuts in this."

Just then, a voice came from behind—

"Hey Aryan!"

It was Rahul.

Aryan turned around.

A little later, college was over for the day.

Aryan and Rahul were walking together towards the exit.

They were still on the way when suddenly,

a shiny, brand-new car stopped right in front of them.

The car was so luxurious and expensive

that both of them froze their eyes on it.

Rahul kept staring at the car,

"Bro… this is an insane ride,"

the surprise was clearly visible on his face.

At that moment, the car door opened.

A middle-aged man stepped out.

Dressed in a suit, looking like a complete gentleman—

His way of walking was different—

calm, confident, and classy.

Rahul was still in shock,

but a slight smile appeared on Aryan's face.

As if…

he already knew that man.

So what will happen next?

Who is this man, whose mere presence brought a smile to Aryan's face?

Will his entry bring a new twist to the story…

or will it uncover an old secret?

And Priya…

is she really going to create new complications in Aryan's life?

All these questions will be answered in the upcoming episodes.

Till then…

stay connected with the story.
