Chapter 81 - A Step Too Late

"Junior Sister, come down quickly! What on earth are you doing?!"

"Senior Sister, let's talk after you come down! Please don't do anything rash!"

"Xuanji, what's gotten into you? Why are you hurting yourself like this? It's not worth it!"

At the edge of the cliff on Little Bamboo Peak, Lu Xuanji, looking utterly dejected, stood precariously on the precipice. Countless fellow disciples stood ten yards away, constantly trying to persuade her not to do anything drastic.

"Don't come any closer! Back away, all of you! If anyone takes another step forward, I'll jump immediately!"

Lu Xuanji suddenly placed her sword against her neck, stopping two female disciples who were about to approach.

"Senior Sister, can you please calm down and come down first?"

"Senior Sister, it's all Lin Feng's fault, the evil cultivator. It has nothing to do with you, so why do this?"

Lu Xuanji shook her head, "I can't face Master, and I can't face my fellow disciples. What's the point of living for someone like me now?"

The scene was chaotic. Just then, Shen Zhao and his group finally arrived at the foot of Little Bamboo Peak.

Shen Zhao, who had just witnessed Lu Xuanji's near-death scene, was shocked. He immediately grabbed Lu Chen's shoulder and shook him, "Quick, quickly prepare some things!"

Lu Chen asked, "Wh...what things?"

"A table, a plate of sunflower seeds, and a pot of tea. Also, a rocking chair. If there are fruits, even better. Hurry, don't just stand there, the faster the better, or it'll be too late!"

Lu Chen nodded, puzzled, and quickly did as he was told.

After half an hour, five meters from the cliff of Little Bamboo Peak...

"Si Leng~~"

"Hometown, ah, new graves~"

"Qia ah~~"

Shen Zhao ate melon seeds, lying in a rocking chair and humming a little tune. Su Yunying, beside him, gently fanned him with a palm fan, a smile on her face.

"Brother Shen, you had me prepare all this, and it's for this damn thing?"

Lu Chen's face was ashen.

"Yes, the cliff-jumping scene. You don't get a fresh one like this in several lifetimes. Shouldn't we hurry up and participate? If we're late, there'll be nothing to watch."

Lu Chen: "I'm really f*cking grateful for your reminder, but could you consider how the person involved and I are feeling right now? That's my sister about to jump off a cliff."

Shen Zhao nodded thoughtfully upon hearing this, then shouted at Lu Xuanji: "Miss Lu, your brother asked me to ask, when exactly are you planning to jump? So we can prepare the banquet."

Lu Chen broke out in a cold sweat: "Big brother, can you please stop provoking her? What if she actually jumps..."

"If she jumps, it'll all be over. Over such a trivial matter, she's acting like it's the end of the world. Her ability to endure is no better than a three-year-old on the street!"

Lu Xuanji also started crying, immediately throwing away the longsword she had placed on her neck, and shouted at Shen Zhao: "It's easy for you to say, that's because you haven't experienced my feelings.

Do you know that it was the first time I met the person I loved, and I fell in love with him, but I didn't expect that the person I loved was actually an evil cultivator who harmed innocent creatures. Would you be able to accept that?"

Shen Zhao lightly stroked his head and shook his head, thinking, Love-struck patients all have issues, don't they? If you're bound to a system and experience nine lifetimes without going crazy, then I'll take your surname.

"Then you should just jump quickly!" Shen Zhao waved his hand dismissively. "I don't even know what you're thinking. You just liked the wrong person. It's just a little setback in your feelings, that's all. What else have you lost?"

"Did your body get ruined? Did you get swindled out of money? Or what else did you lose?

Since you haven't suffered any actual losses, who are you trying to put on a show for by acting like you want to die?

You have a father who loves you, an older brother, a master who takes responsibility for you, and so many fellow disciples who care about you.

You're already much happier than many of your peers with everything you have. So what is there to make a fuss about?

Life isn't just about love. Family, friendship, and career should all be given attention.

Or is it that in your heart, everything else is unimportant except for Lin Feng?"

Lu Xuanji was stunned, a hint of confusion in her teary eyes.

The other Qingyun Sect disciples were also stunned, staring at Shen Zhao in silence.

Shen Zhao sighed and continued, "Besides, the emotional setback you're experiencing now is nothing compared to real heartbreak."

Lu Xuanji raised an eyebrow and said, "What do you mean 'nothing'? Don't just stand there talking down to me; you're just enjoying my misfortune."

Shen Zhao crossed his legs and said, word by word, "Once upon a time, there was a man who fell in love with a woman. The woman was exceptionally talented, a rare genius throughout the ages. Regardless of status or background, the man was like a humble ant before her.

Originally, these two people shouldn't have had any interaction, but because of certain irresistible causes and effects, they ended up together.

The husband knew very well that his wife couldn't possibly love him, a nobody, a mere mortal. Because on their wedding night, the husband didn't even have the right to enter the bridal chamber.

However, the husband didn't give up on himself. In order to be worthy of his wife, and to be accepted by her one day,

the husband worked hard to change himself, improving himself tirelessly day after day for over a decade. He shielded his wife from the wind and rain, protecting her throughout her life.

But when the man felt he could finally be worthy of his wife, the woman turned around and met another man,"

He was handsome and dashing, quickly capturing the woman's heart. Upon learning of this, the husband felt pain and regret, but for the sake of his wife's reputation, he didn't confront her directly. Instead, he silently devoted countless efforts behind the scenes.

Even so, in the woman's eyes, her husband's sacrifices were merely charity and a joke. She only had eyes for the man she had suddenly encountered.

Even though that man, aside from his looks and sweet talk, had done nothing for his wife, it couldn't change his perfect image in her eyes.

Finally, in order to be with the man, the wife conspired with him to murder her husband. Though the husband knew his wife intended to harm him, he still unconditionally chose to believe she would change her mind. He went to the rendezvous alone and ultimately lost his life. After the husband died,

the wife and the man finally got together and lived happily ever after.

"Miss Lu, after hearing this story, I just have one question: Compared to the husband in this story, are your emotional experiences even a blip of a setback?!"

Lu Xuanji fell silent, and everyone else present followed suit.

After a long pause, Lu Xuanji spoke, "Does she have a heart of iron? Her husband sacrificed so much for her. Even a stone would have warmed up!

Even if she didn't love her husband, she shouldn't have killed him. That kind of woman is disgusting. If it were me, even if there were no feelings at first, how could I not be moved after more than a decade of quiet devotion?"

Shen Zhao shrugged, "So, are you still trying to end it all?

Some people can gain what others might spend a lifetime of sincerity to achieve with just a few sweet words.

Some people only need one night to get what others need a formal marriage to obtain,

So, Miss Lu, you should be glad. You haven't lost anything yet. This experience is just a small interlude in your life. There's no need to make a big deal out of it.

You should think about how to proceed in the future. You have a long life ahead."

Speaking of which, Shen Zhao, having successfully delivered his motivational speech, stretched languidly and continued munching on his melon.

Lu Xuanji and the Qingyun Sect disciples present were still digesting Shen Zhao's words, some even shedding tears.

Su Yunying quickly leaned in and whispered to Shen Zhao, "Boss Shen, you sounded like you have a lot of experience just now."

Shen Zhao replied, "That's why I tell you to read more books in your free time. That way, your ability to fabricate nonsense will actually resonate with people."

Su Yunying made a face, "It sounds like you've experienced it yourself, no matter how I hear it."

"That's why I'm your boss, and you're just my underling. Next time you go crazy, I'll just slit your throat with a single stroke. Damn, what a nuisance."

Shen Zhao retorted, then turned to Lu Chen and said, "Your sister is fine now. Here's a suggestion: if your sister goes crazy again in the future, just slap her a few times. It's best not to come looking for me with this kind of nonsense, alright?"

Lu Chen's face was a mask of black lines, but he could only nod in agreement.

This was just a minor incident, and that was that.

The next day, the seven major sects of the Eastern Continent announced through various channels across the Immortal Martial Continent that Lin Feng was a spy of the Nine Nether, a heretical cultivator, and listed his crimes one by one. The news quickly spread among the major Xuanmen.

After Shen Zhao finished dealing with the affairs of the Qingyun Sect, he left the sect that day.

It was only on his way back that he discovered he'd been tricked by Lin Feng.

The Soul-Nurturing Ring in his hand was fake. Lin Feng had used a trick to deceive him, making Shen Zhao curse all the way back.

However, after the cursing, he didn't dwell on it. Lin Feng was injured by a Divine-grade Spirit Artifact, and his injuries would certainly be difficult to recover from in a short time. His cultivation would also inevitably decline, and he probably wouldn't be able to move around the martial world for a while.

After Shen Zhao returned to Qingyang City and dealt with the matters at hand, he prepared to help Yun Weiwei reshape her Yuan Dan. He then explained the relevant matters to Yun Weiwei and Liang Hao, and directly grabbed Ding Buer, heading towards the Tang Sect.

At the same time, Yu Xiyan, who was still on her way to the Qingyun Sect, heard about Lin Feng's identity being exposed and that he was being pursued by the seven major sects of the Eastern Continent.

"Your Majesty, this old servant has investigated thoroughly. Lin Feng has indeed left the Qingyun Sect, and his whereabouts are currently unknown. This old servant suspects he may not be on the Eastern Continent. Continuing the journey to the Eastern Continent is unnecessary. Your Majesty should return to the palace as soon as possible."

Yu Xiyan took a deep breath, her heart filled with resentment.

Lu Lao, kneeling on the ground, unaware of the relationship between Yu Xiyan and Lin Feng, continued to advise, "Your Majesty, a mere Lin Feng is not worth worrying about. His demonic cultivator nature will eventually bring him harm from various sects of the Xuanmen. The current affairs of the court are of utmost importance. It is best to return to the palace to preside over the overall situation."

"I understand. You may leave first."

"This old servant takes his leave."

After Lu Lao left, Yu Xiyan stood in place, pondering for a long time.

The current Yu Xiyan was like a completely changed person compared to a few months ago.

At the young age of eighteen, she already possessed an Innate Dao Body, and her cultivation had broken through to the first rank of the Nirvana Realm half a month ago, with four-tenths of her Ice Phoenix Bloodline awakened.

Yu Xiyan was confident that she could win, even against opponents three or four ranks above her.

But compared to her previous life, when she had Shen Zhao assisting her, she was still inferior.

To avoid the tragedies of her previous life from repeating themselves, Yu Xiyan had to work hard to improve her strength.

Thinking of this, she wasn't in a hurry to find Lin Feng. She only needed to wait for him to appear in Chang'an. So, she turned around and headed back towards the Yin Tian Royal Dynasty.

Halfway there, Yu Xiyan encountered a pair of Dao companions who were also on their way. The three of them decided to travel together.

The male Dao companion was called Guo Zheng, and the female was Liu Ying. They were both disciples of the Xuan Yin Sect, and their affection for each other was very deep.

Neither of them seemed to be in a hurry to travel, and they flaunted their affection in front of Yu Xiyan along the way.

"Miss Shen, Senior Brother Guo has grilled two fish, and we can't possibly eat them all. Why don't we share them?"

Liu Ying placed a roasted fish in front of Yu Xiyan and smiled at her, then continued towards Guo Zheng by the stream.

Watching the two of them sitting close together and laughing, a hint of envy couldn't help but flash in Yu Xiyan's eyes.
