Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Cracks

"Your assistant? What does that job entail?" Haru asked as he looked at the mysterious Yokai Academy principal.

At his words, a smile spread across the Principals face as his eyes hidden behind the darkness of his hood seemed to shine as they looked at Haru.

"Well, it simply entails helping me organize files around my office as well as going around and calling students to come to my office when I ask them to, similarly to how that girl came to get you." The principal said.

"Seem's much too easy for a punishment," Haru said frankly as he looked at the man.

"It may indeed be easy but it can also be quite hard if you look at it from a different perspective." The principal replied in return, still maintaining that creepy smile of his.

'Does he mean that the students he calls to his office may resist?' Haru immediately thought before nodding his head.

"Just to let you know, I'll be leaving this school next month," Haru said as he looked at the man.

"You can leave whenever you wish, that is your own choice to make."

This was perhaps the only straightforward answer that the Principal had given during the whole duration of their conversation.

"All right, well then I accept becoming your assistant, when do I get started?" Haru asked, his voice once more returning to that emotionally dull tone.

"You can come by my office next week, I feel like you have a lot of things to process in the meantime." The principal said as he looked at Haru who nodded his head and turned around.

"Don't resent those around you, fear is quite the ugly emotion." The Principal said as Haru was about to open the wooden door.

Stopping his hand for but a moment at his words before continuing his action and opening the door before heading outside into the hallway.

Images of scenes being repeated inside his mind like a broken record.

His brother's eyes, the face of Saizou, and finally his corpse and what he himself had done to it.

Walking slowly, Haru continued on his path.

His destination was the student dorms.

Thankfully it seemed like the students had one room all to themselves so he wouldn't have to share with anyone.

He wanted to be alone for a while.

To not be looked at by anyone until he fix what he had broken.

However, once a plate breaks, it will never return to what it had once been.

Cracks will always exist, no matter how hard you try.

This was only the beginning of the fall.

A while later, Haru finally arrived in front of the door to his own dorm room which he quickly opened with a key that he had been given.

Once inside he saw that the room was clean and quite large, it looked more like a hotel room rather than an actual student dorm.

'It seems like private academies really are different.' Haru thought before jumping onto his new soft bed and closing his eyes.

His breaths evened out almost instantly as he fell into a deep sleep.

He was only awoken the next morning when an alarm clock by his bedside started ringing.

Opening his eyes, Haru felt refreshed at least until he remembered what had happened yesterday.

'I killed someone, huh, and now I'm the assistant of a monster academy's principal.' Haru thought to himself as he released a long-winded sigh and got up from the bed, he was already dressed in his school uniform as he had not even changed out before sleep had overtaken his drained mind.

Thinking back to the scenes of yesterday, made Haru shiver.

He almost felt like he was remembering a stranger's memories, it was as if someone else had taken over his body and killed someone in cold blood.

He could still vividly recall his rage and then his dull emotions later on.

*Gulp*

Gulping out of instinct, Haru shook his head before grabbing his student bag and getting out of the dorm, remembering to lock it after.

Turning around, Haru walked out of the dorms and started heading toward the main school building.

The lifeless surroundings around still were a constant reminder that he wasn't home.

That he wasn't safe, however as Haru had always done, he put these feelings aside and pushed through.

A few minutes later, he arrived at his classroom.

Hearing the buzz inside the room, Haru guessed that everyone else had already gone inside and he was the last one.

Once he opened the door and headed in, he saw that he was correct in thinking so.

Looking around the class, Haru saw that both Tsukune and Moka were already seated.

He noticed another thing as well.

Every single student was looking at him with the same expression.

One of apprehension, and one of pure fear.

'Seems like they saw what happened yesterday.' Haru thought before his lips curled into a smile, his heart acted weirdly as he pushed through and walked to his chair.

Just as he sat down, he saw their homeroom teacher, Ms. Nekonome come in.

"Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a great sleep!" The cat woman said as she made a pose.

Immediately the entire male group of the class seemed to forget about Haru as they shouted excited replies to Nekonome's greeting.

'Dumbasses' Haru thought as he shook his head lightly, his face still maintaining that smile of his.

At this point, it felt like it had been glued to his face, a sort of shield that had just sprung up randomly and now couldn't be broken.

"Hey, uhm Haru."

Turning around, Haru saw who had spoken to him.

It was Tsukune.

"Hey Tsukune, what's up?" Haru asked, his cheerfulness sounded clearly fake to his own ears however Tsukune's face seemed to light up.

'Does he really not notice?' Haru thought as he continued smiling as he listened to what Tsukune had to say.

"Can we meet up later? I have something to tell you, oh Moka as well." Tsukune said as his eyes moved left and right as if he were a child who had been caught with his hand still inside the cookie jar.
