Chapter 28 - Cheng Xiao vs. Tang San

Notting City, Notting Academy.

A month quickly passed. During this month, Cheng Xiao cultivated while practicing the skills brought by his first Soul Ring.

He completely mastered active skills like throwing daggers, Swift Sprint, and striking vital points. He initially only had a feeling of familiarity with them, but as he used them more and more, he became increasingly adept.

When Cheng Xiao and Xiao Wu came to the blacksmith shop again to collect their second month's Soul Master allowance, the two short swords he paid to have crafted were ready.

The two short swords had different shapes, but their blades had strange and exquisite special patterns. As soon as Cheng Xiao held them, he felt their extraordinary quality. They were heavy, but extremely comfortable in his hands.

"Boss, the feel is good, and the weight control is also excellent." Cheng Xiao picked up the two short swords in his hands, then slashed them through the air, confirming that they were easy to handle. He then praised the boss.

"Haha, young brother, you don't know. It really took a lot of effort to forge these two short swords for you. Fortunately, we have a skilled young blacksmith in our blacksmith shop, otherwise, it would have taken even longer to forge these two short swords." The blacksmith shop owner said.

"The little blacksmith?" Xiao Wu, beside Cheng Xiao, was slightly taken aback, and asked, "Boss, the little blacksmith you mentioned, is he a student at Notting Academy? His name is Tang San, and he's incredibly strong."

Hearing this, the blacksmith shop owner slapped his forehead and said, "Oh, I almost forgot, you two are also students at Notting Academy."

"That's right, young lady. Tang San is the new little blacksmith in our shop. Let me tell you, don't underestimate him. His forging skills surpass even us old blacksmiths. These two short swords that the young man is holding were also made with Tang San's help."

Cheng Xiao smiled upon hearing this, took out two Gold Soul Coins that he had just received from his pocket, and handed them to the blacksmith shop owner, saying, "Boss, these are this month's two Gold Soul Coins. There are three months and six Gold Soul Coins left."

"Alright." The blacksmith shop owner took the Gold Soul Coins Cheng Xiao handed over, weighed them, confirmed they were genuine, and then put them away.

"Boss, we'll be heading back now. I'll pay you next month's money today as well." Cheng Xiao put the two short swords back into their sheaths, habitually took Xiao Wu's hand, and prepared to leave.

But just as Cheng Xiao was leading Xiao Wu out the door, Tang San suddenly walked out. He first said something to the blacksmith shop owner, then quickly came to the two of them who were about to leave, and said in a low voice, "Cheng Xiao, I didn't expect these two short swords to be your design. If possible, can we spar at the back mountain of the academy this afternoon? I've been waiting for you for over a month."

After Tang San demonstrated his extraordinary forging talent in the blacksmith shop, he also quickly participated in the crafting of the two short swords that the entire blacksmith shop had poured all its effort into. At first, Tang San was a little skeptical. Just two short swords, why would the entire blacksmith shop put so much effort into crafting them?

However, once he got involved, he discovered that it wasn't the construction itself that was difficult, but rather the need to focus on some very specific details. It was these details that were slowing down the entire process.

But this level of forging was incredibly easy for Tang San. With his help, the efficiency of forging these two short swords increased significantly.

When he learned that the customer who needed the two short swords was two children, Tang San became even more curious. So, when he saw Cheng Xiao come to pick up the short swords today, the idea of wanting to spar with him, which had been suppressed by the master, resurfaced.

"Let's do it then." Cheng Xiao paused, speaking calmly, "I also want to see what my current strength is."

Tang San's heart leaped with joy, "Alright, I'll go back this afternoon and meet you at the academy's back mountain."

Cheng Xiao nodded slightly, "Okay."

After leaving the blacksmith shop, Cheng Xiao first accompanied Xiao Wu to stroll around Notting City for an afternoon. After buying some delicious food, they went to the academy's back mountain as dusk approached.

Arriving at the back mountain, Cheng Xiao saw Tang San standing under a large tree from a distance. It looked like he had been waiting there for quite some time.

"You're here," Tang San said, looking at the belated Cheng Xiao, feeling a bit frustrated. He had finished his work early for this sparring match. He had come early, but Cheng Xiao was still almost an hour late! But fortunately, Cheng Xiao had kept his word. He hadn't stood him up again.

"Sorry, I spent a little longer with Xiao Wu," Cheng Xiao explained.

Hearing this, Tang San nodded. As he slowly walked forward, he released his Martial Soul.

"Tang San, Martial Soul Blue Silver Grass, a thirteen-level control-type battle soul master."

As he finished speaking, a faint white light shone from Tang San's body. With a wave of his right hand, Blue Silver Grass spread out at his feet. A bright yellow Soul Ring rose from Tang San's feet, rotating around his body.

"Cheng Xiao, Martial Soul Shadow Soldier, a thirteen-level, one-ring battle soul master."

Looking at Tang San standing before him, Cheng Xiao grasped the two short swords he had made today. As the sound of the swords leaving their sheaths rang out, Tang San's expression inevitably became serious.

Swift Sprint!

With a low shout only he could hear, Cheng Xiao tapped his toes lightly, his body transforming into a gust of wind. His speed instantly surged, and in the blink of an eye, he was right in front of Tang San.

"So fast!" Tang San's already serious expression changed again. He had thought Cheng Xiao would use some tactics, but he hadn't expected him to charge directly at him. Moreover, his speed was not at all inferior to his own Ghost Shadow Maze.

Facing Cheng Xiao, who was wielding two swords and brimming with momentum, Tang San instinctively retreated several steps, trying to create some distance. Immediately after, the first Soul Ring beneath his feet suddenly lit up, and more than a dozen thick Blue Silver Grass shot out from under Cheng Xiao's feet, attempting to stop his attack.

However, Cheng Xiao didn't pay any attention. The muscles in his arms, which were gripping the swords tightly, bulged. The two swords weaved together, forming a sharp sword beam that cut through the Blue Silver Grass like lightning. Then, he stomped forward again, slashing towards Tang San.

Seeing this, Tang San's pupils slightly contracted. His five fingers quickly spread open, forming a claw shape, and an invisible pulling force emanated from his hand.

This was the Tang Sect's unique technique, Crane Control, Dragon Catch.

Feeling an invisible force pulling at his body, Cheng Xiao decisively shot a short sword towards Tang San. Its speed was so fast, it was like a flash of silver, reaching Tang San's chest in the blink of an eye.

Just as the short sword was about to hit Tang San's chest, his palm turned as white as jade. A chill erupted from his palm, and he immediately tried to catch the speeding short sword with both hands.

The next second, an unstoppable force surged from the short sword. Tang San's expression changed instantly, and he retreated more than ten steps before steadying himself.

Such terrifying force. Even compared to the piercing power of the Tang Sect's hidden weapons, it's not inferior at all. Tang San was startled; he hadn't expected the short sword Cheng Xiao shot to have such power. Could it be that Cheng Xiao was the true powerhouse?

Fortunately, his Mysterious Jade Hand had decent defensive capabilities and blocked the attack. Otherwise, that one sword might have pierced through his body.

Tang San also realized that Cheng Xiao's attack method had no tactics, just one word: brute force!

Facing a brute, Tang San naturally couldn't engage in close combat. Judging from the force of that one sword, Cheng Xiao's strength was even greater than his own. Therefore, he decided to create distance and fight from afar.

In terms of technique, he, Tang San, didn't fear anyone!

Ugh, battle scenes are so hard to write…
