Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Natasha Romanoff Suspects Nick Fury of Embezzling Public Funds!

In the evening, at the S.H.I.E.L.D. city-wide monitoring base in New York!

"So, this is what you wear when you fight?"

Looking at the gorgeous silver and white cloaked armor, with only a visor covering the eyes, Natasha Romanoff was surprised that she couldn't make out Su Che's face.

As a professional agent, Natasha Romanoff might not have a photographic memory, but after being in contact with Su Che for over two months, his face was long since engraved in her heart.

How could she not recognize him just because he was wearing a handsome visor?

But the reality was, the Su Che in front of her had only covered the area around his eyes, yet she had a very strange feeling of unfamiliarity.

This surprised Natasha Romanoff.

"This visor has an optical illusion function. As long as you wear it, others won't be able to clearly see the wearer's face."

"Well, it's similar to Superman's glasses in the comics, except Superman relies on his own ability, and the glasses are just props."

Seeing Natasha Romanoff's surprised look, Su Che explained.

This outfit was an extra gift from the system. As a superhero, how could one not have a cool costume?

Facing super-villains in everyday clothes would be very unstylish!

"That's really convenient."

Hearing Su Che's explanation, Natasha Romanoff nodded: "It will make things much easier for you in the future. At least you won't have to worry about being recognized after saving the world."

"It's also because there are too few Avengers... well, superheroes."

Leaning against the cabinet next to Natasha Romanoff with his arms folded, watching several staff members monitor all of New York through dozens of screens, Su Che said softly:

"On one hand, being a superhero is just a job identity. It's best to keep work and personal life separate."

"On the other hand, there are too few superheroes now. If one occasionally appears, ordinary people can't help but dig into their lives out of curiosity."

"It unnecessarily causes a lot of trouble."

"But it will be fine in the future. When there are more superheroes and people get used to it, maybe there will be no need to hide their identities anymore."

Listening to Su Che's "words of experience," Natasha Romanoff nodded slightly.

In her mind, Su Che must be very experienced in this area. After all, he had been an Avenger for over ten years before the parallel world was destroyed.

So it was absolutely right to listen to him on this.

Work is work, life is life. If they get mixed up, life would likely become a mess.

This was what Natasha Romanoff thought. She also didn't like her daily life being disturbed by various missions.

"I thought you'd bring two cups of coffee."

Looking at Su Che with a smile, his arms still folded, Natasha Romanoff shrugged and said, "After all, it's already past ten o'clock, and no one knows when the chaos will break out tonight."

"And you, as the owner of a coffee shop, have it so convenient. It's really unreasonable not to bring a few cups to help us stay awake."

"Don't you have coffee here?"

Looking at the coffee cups in front of the staff, Su Che turned his head and asked Natasha Romanoff.

"Come on, it's instant."

Leaning against the cabinet speechlessly, Natasha Romanoff spread her hands: "I don't know why, but S.H.I.E.L.D.'s logistics are getting more and more frugal."

"When Barton first brought me into S.H.I.E.L.D., both the work meals and the coffee were top-notch."

"But now, the late-night work meal has become a simple sandwich, and the coffee is the instant kind from a bag."

"Sometimes even funding applications get heavily discounted. It's clear that S.H.I.E.L.D. can apply for a large sum of money from the World Security Council every year."

"But Nick Fury is getting stingier and stingier."

"You know, even the dinners and breakfasts I make for Wanda and Pietro are enriched according to the nutrients their bodies need now."

"But S.H.I.E.L.D.'s late-night work meal is just a few sandwiches. Can you believe it?"

Listening to Natasha Romanoff's complaints, Su Che didn't speak.

Natasha Romanoff's complaints likely corresponded to the fact that Nick Fury was embezzling funds to build a moon base. This wasn't a small project and couldn't be known to too many people.

That's why Natasha Romanoff felt Nick Fury was getting stingier.

"How are Wanda and Pietro doing now?"

As if making conversation, Su Che intentionally or unintentionally asked about Wanda and Pietro's current living situation.

Although he knew that the reason Wanda and Pietro appeared in New York and were adopted by the Black Widow, making her their guardian, was largely due to the stories he fabricated in his diary,

Su Che still had to pretend not to know and "casually" ask Natasha Romanoff.

Turning her head to look at Su Che, Natasha Romanoff smiled: "They're okay. Although these two little ones are only fourteen, they still have a trace of hostility in their hearts."

"But it might be related to their experiences."

"Still, it's fine. As warm daily life gradually fills the void in their hearts, I believe they will get better."

"Wanda is relatively well-behaved, and her grades are pretty good."

"As for Pietro, he has a lot of ideas. Although his grades aren't great, his athletic ability is good."

Having said that, Natasha Romanoff turned to look at Su Che with a smile: "Wanda and Pietro's birthdays are in a few days. As their guardian sister, I have to make some preparations."

"The two little ones haven't celebrated their birthdays since their parents passed away."

"So, since I am their guardian and their older sister now, this kind of thing should naturally be handled by me..."

Before Natasha Romanoff could finish speaking, the S.H.I.E.L.D. staff sitting in front of the chairs monitoring the city through dozens of screens suddenly said,

"Sir, something unusual has happened!"

Hearing the staff's words, Natasha Romanoff and Su Che looked at each other and immediately walked over to the monitor!
