Chapter 44 - Difficult Training

Ling An had heard people say that when you're focused on something, time flies by. But if you have nothing to do, time seems to drag.

However, Ling An felt that this wasn't entirely true.

Or rather, it depended on what you were doing.

Take Son Gohan, for instance. As a descendant of the Saiyan warrior race, he wasn't as battle-hungry as Son Goku or Vegeta. But he didn't mind fighting or getting stronger. So, being in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for a long time, as long as he was training, didn't bother him. In fact, he felt time went by too quickly, because his actual growth was slow.

For Ling An, though, it was a different experience.

Because the Hyperbolic Time Chamber had ten times Earth's gravity, she hadn't brought any tech with her. She only had some books and manga. But even so, she finished them quickly. Once she'd read them all, she had nothing left to do in the chamber.

That was an incredibly uncomfortable experience.

Even when she had nothing to do, she felt like every day was incredibly long. Her experience was completely different from Son Gohan's, even though they were in the same environment.

She couldn't wait for Son Gohan to reach Super Saiyan 2 and leave this dreadful place. Unfortunately, Son Gohan's training progress remained stagnant.

What exactly was the realm of Super Saiyan 2?

Even Ling An, having read the original story, couldn't fully grasp it. Ling An wasn't a Saiyan, nor was she a particularly skilled martial artist, so she couldn't offer Son Gohan much guidance.

All she could do was spar with him.

This was their third month in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Through these three months of intense training, she had gained even greater strength. If she had been worried about Cell's stronger forms upon resurrection before, now, with her current power, she could easily handle Cell, even if he surpassed his original portrayal.

Even so, she hadn't chosen to tell Son Gohan to leave yet. She knew that since he had entered the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he was aiming for Super Saiyan 2. Giving up before the time limit was up wouldn't be good for Son Gohan's character development.

Furthermore, as a fan of the original story, she, like many others, had a strong dislike for Nobita Gohan. Or rather, she disliked how the author had portrayed Son Gohan as Nobita Gohan. Ling An didn't want the future Gohan to become someone who relied on others and neglected his own strength.

Moreover, in the future timeline, they might encounter attacks from Goku Black and Zamasu. If Son Gohan didn't develop properly, wouldn't she have to deal with it all? And if something went wrong and Zen-Oh was summoned, wouldn't that be even worse?

Therefore, nurturing Son Gohan is crucial for the future timeline. Even if they manage to revive Son Goku and Vegeta in the future, there's no way Son Gohan could become Nobita Gohan again.

In any case, she was just bored, and it wouldn't cost her anything. She wasn't so delicate that she'd be miserable about it.

"Gohan, let's take a break. It's not too late to train after we eat."

This was the fourth month inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Ling An called out to Son Gohan, who was up in the sky. Upon hearing her, he flashed over to her.

During the meal, Son Gohan, who usually had a huge appetite, suddenly put down his chopsticks, looking dazed. Ling An was slightly taken aback, and just as she was about to speak, Son Gohan suddenly said, "Ling An, do you think I'm not capable?"

"What do you mean?" Ling An frowned.

"I don't seem to have the ability to break through to Super Saiyan 2, as you said. Over these past few months, no matter how I train, I can't find the knack. It feels like I'm wasting my time every day." Son Gohan scratched his head in frustration and continued, "And, Ling An, you must be bored too, right? You don't need to train, yet you're staying with me and taking care of me... I feel really bad about it."

"So, are you saying you think you're not up to it, or are you considering me?"

Ling An's heart fluttered slightly. She hadn't expected Son Gohan to say something like that. It seemed he'd been paying attention to her, and he knew she wasn't entirely comfortable here.

Facing Ling An's question, Son Gohan stammered, "Maybe... maybe both. Of course, compared to the distant prospect of Super Saiyan 2, I'd rather you be happy, Ling An."

"..." Ling An opened her mouth, unsure what to say. After a moment, she shook her head and smiled. "I'm just bored here, not unhappy. And your training is more important than my feelings, Gohan."

"But..."

"Gohan, haven't you noticed it yourself?"

"Huh?" Son Gohan was taken aback.

Ling An formulated her thoughts. "Perhaps the difficulty of breaking through to Super Saiyan 2 is too high. After repeated failures, you've started to think about giving up, haven't you?"

"..."

Son Gohan lowered his head slightly upon hearing this. Ling An had hit the nail on the head, as after four months of training, he had indeed considered giving up. Or rather, he felt he might not have the ability to break through to Super Saiyan 2, an unknown realm.

"Gohan, perhaps you think that since Son Goku and the others are still here, and even they haven't reached Super Saiyan 2, then you might not be able to either, right?"

Ling An analyzed Son Gohan's thoughts. "But have you considered that in our timeline, after Vegeta and the others were killed by the Androids, when you were the only one left, did you ever have this kind of thought of giving up? You went from being weak to being able to rival an Android, didn't you figure it out on your own? So, why do you think you don't have that ability now?"

"In any case, Gohan, you should believe in yourself. Your potential isn't any less than Son Goku and the others, and you might even be stronger."

"..." Son Gohan listened to Ling An's words and remained silent for a long time. After a while, he said with determination, "I understand, Ling An. I'll work hard from now on!"

Ling An smiled, "That's the spirit! So, eat your fill, and then get back to training! By the way, Gohan, it's time to eat a Senzu Bean and heal your arm!"

"Alright!"

Without any hesitation, Son Gohan nodded heavily.
