Evan's voice was cold and impatient. "I don't want to hear any more. I don't care about your excuses. All I know is that your actions have caused us a lot of trouble. You can't participate in this competition."
Nevaeh's chest tightened with helpless anger. "I have nothing to hide with Samuel. Why are you all ignoring the facts and jumping to conclusions? Shouldn't you be investigating how those photos appeared instead of trying to kick me out?"
"Talking won't change anything. I don't care if you're innocent. Because of your lack of discretion, your spot is canceled." Evan's tone was final as he slammed the door shut.
Nevaeh stood frozen in front of the closed door, her heart sinking into despair.
Nancy was furious, pounding on the door over and over, but Evan never responded.
"Stop knocking," Nevaeh whispered, her voice hoarse. "They won't listen. Soon, they'll announce that I seduced Samuel and take away my chance at the competition."
