Chapter 46 - Bottomless

A few days later...

Missio was rocking his chair in his office, listening to the hums of his music box. After a few moments, his phone buzzed. He flinched. He pulled out his phone and opened it. He saw the notification of an email being sent to him from the Stratos academy. He perked up and clicked on the notification. It brought him to an email. He surveyed the email carefully.

[To the lieutenant general of the black op's division; Missio Augustus,

The examination of the deputy general's body.

Dear Missio Augustus,

We are pleased to inform you of the successive examination of the deputy general's body. We carefully studied his body using various methods and found the in fact his soul had been naturally taken out of his body due to unknown reasons. As you know, we cannot trace this kind of extermination using any known modern or ancient method. Therefore, until you can get an answer from the suspected murderer {if there is one} himself, the death will remain inconclusive. As only he would be able to explain this phenomenon but for now, our conclusion lies in chaos.

I hope this E-mail finds you and we will be sending the body back in a few days. So, the funeral for the dead deputy can be held.

With all due respect,

Stratos Academy]

Missio lingered on that email for a while.

'Chaos, huh…'

He clicked out the email and went to message his friends in the group chat they had created. His fingers tapped across the keyboard as the message formed on the display. He then clicked send and informed his team of the deputy's bodies successive examination. He put his phone on the table and leaned back in his chair. He drew a sharp breath. He tapped his music box, and it went into noise-cancelling mode. Music blasted through his ears, making him forget his worries. He rocked his office chair as the symphony rested his mind and body.

In the meeting room next to emergency dispatch room, Henry, Eira, Mary and Krishna were still reviewing the backgrounds of the workers of the law firm. Suddenly, all their phones rang simultaneously. They pulled out their phones and saw Missio's message.

[Guys, the deputy's office was examined and they're going to send it back in the next few days.]

Henry and Eira smirked. Mary smiled slightly. Krishna lingered on the message for a while. Then, Henry, who was parallel to him, called him out.

"Hey, Krishna! Why are you staring at your phone?"

"N-Nothing. None of your business." Krishna put his phone back in his pocket.

"Oh~ is that so? Don't got a girlfriend or something?" Henry teased.

"If I did, I would've told you during my last life." Krishna replied, picking up a paper.

"Huh? I don't get it." Eira said.

"What I am trying to convey is that this gentleman's charisma is extremely low and that he couldn't have pulled a girl even if he died for it." Krishna said in a mocking medieval tone.

"Hey! I don't have low charisma!" Henry shouted.

At that point, Mary started to chuckle.

"Yeah! I love him!" Eira puffed her chest.

"Yeah…my lady, you are his fiancé which was chosen by both of your parents. His father could tell he did not inherit his genetics. So, he arranged for the two of you to get married out of pity." Krishna picked up a monocle and placed it on his left eye, acting like a noble.

Mary burst out into a fit of laughter and Krishna started to chuckle as well. Henry was fuming and Eira was trying to calm him down.

"Hey – Hey! It's a joke, just a joke! I know your handsome just not as much as me." Krishna exclaimed.

"Mark my words, I'm going to get back at you." Henry said while clenching his hands.

The group continued to survey the backgrounds of every employee at the firm and made small talk occasionally. After a couple of hours later, they finished the survey. Mary dropped onto the table out of tiredness.

"Oh…that was tiring." Mary commented.

"It was…I'm just wondering why we can't use AI." Krishna said.

"The higher-ups would never allow that." Henry stacked papers into a folder.

"Even so it was a fun bonding activity!" Eira clasped her hands.

"People like you must think hell is paradise. Is hell's eternal suffering not enough for masochist's or workaholics? How was that fun?" Krishna mocked while stretching.

Henry, Eira and Mary stared at the young man in shock. Krishna, who was in the middle of stretching, stopped and his face paled.

"Uh…did I say something wrong?" He asked.

"Dude…I haven't heard a roast like that since Missio's brother. I felt that." Henry said.

"Yeah…have you leveled up?" Eira said.

Krishna was dumbfounded for a moment before grinning widely and puffing his chest.

"Maybe I am." He said confidently.

"Yeah, no…" Henry walked out of the room.

"See you later." Eira followed Her fiancé.

Krishna glanced at the couple leaving. Only Krishna and Mary were left in the room.

"I honestly though I crossed the line right then." Krishna said in a low voice.

"I thought that too." Mary replied, hearing him.

Krishna flinched and looked at his friend. Mary looked at him with pure golden eyes. He sighed and asked.

"Do you think we'll ever get to the bottom of this case?"

"We will. Not every criminal is perfect at covering their crime." Mary leaned back in her chair.

"Right…" Krishna whispered.

He took a deep breath and went quiet for a few moments. Mary looked at him, wondering why he was so quiet in her mind.

"…Well…I think he intentionally left that evidence at the crime scene. The weird part was we couldn't find any fingerprints." Krishna blurted.

"It was strange…if you're writing then, there should be some finger prints or handprints left but no – nothing's there."

"Not even footprints?"

"…You goose. Why would you think there would be footprints and for the record, we didn't find any."

"That means it's most probably and definitely…"

"Chaos." Mary finished Krishna's sentence.
