Weevil crossed his arms, mocking Yuto.
"Since we're dueling in the forest, Insect monsters gain a 30% boost to Attack and Defense!"
"Yuto, did you really just get lucky beating Kaiba? You don't even know something this important?"
'Wait… what? Pegasus never mentioned this rule!'
Burned by a lack of info, Yuto clicked his tongue in annoyance and immediately set two cards in his back row.
"I set two cards. Turn end."
Smirking, Weevil drew and slapped a monster onto the field.
"My turn, I summon [Larvae Moth] in Defense Position!"
Then he activated another card.
"I equip it with the Spell Card [Cocoon of Evolution]!"
Larvae Moth's body was wrapped in silk, forming a massive cocoon. Its stats shifted to 0/2000.
"My turn ends."
Weevil looked satisfied. In five turns, Larvae Moth would become Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth.
"My turn!"
Yuto drew, his eyes flashing.
"Ha! Watch closely, Weevil, as I crush your monsters!"
"I Normal Summon [ACE – Char the Red Comet], then activate the Spell Card [Missile Mounting]!"
"Though ACE – Char has only 1200 Attack, equipping Missile Mounting gives it +500!"
"Attack!"
The red Zaku charged with its Heat Hawk—but Killer Bee darted aside and pierced its cockpit with its stinger!
"What?!"
"Idiot!"
Weevil burst out laughing.
"Ha ha ha! Monsters boosted by field power naturally resist Spells! In battle, only their base Attack counts! Your Equip Card did nothing!"
"Curse it!"
Yuto slammed the table. Where did these rules come from? Duelist Kingdom was infamous for inconsistencies, but this? Did he miss it as a kid?
His Life Points fell from 1840 to 1480.
"Turn end…"
"Good, one turn down. Four more, and you lose, Yuto Tenshou!"
Still jeering, Weevil drew.
"I set one card. Turn end!"
'A set card… DNA Surgery?' Yuto couldn't remember Weevil's exact lineup.
'Never mind, draw!'
[Operation British]
Finally, a good one.
"I activate [Operation British]! I Special Summon three [H.L.V.] from my Deck!"
Three H.L.V. thundered down, landing in Attack Position—each with 0 Attack.
Weevil howled with laughter.
"Pffft—ha ha ha! Yuto, you're hopeless! You actually put three 0-Attack trash in Attack Position?! Thanks for the free Star Chips!"
He casually drew and immediately declared Battle Phase.
"Killer Bee, attack—"
"Now!"
Yuto flipped a set card.
"I activate the Trap [Newtype Sensing]! I secretly select one of your monsters. If it makes the first attack this Battle Phase, it's destroyed!"
"What! Careless!"
Weevil seized up. With only Cocoon and Killer Bee on the field, it was obvious which was targeted.
"Fine! Then I won't attack this turn!"
He ended the Battle Phase, frustrated.
"Wrong, Weevil! You fell into my trap!"
"Newtype Sensing's effect: if your opponent declares no attacks this Battle Phase, all their monsters are destroyed! Begone!"
Boom! Boom!
Both Cocoon and Killer Bee exploded into fragments.
"Well done, Yuto!"
"Nice counter!"
"Go for it!"
"You can win this!"
Cheers erupted from Yugi and the others below.
Yuto raised his hand high, giving them a confident thumbs-up.
"My turn! Draw!"
[MS-05 Zaku I]
'Good—maybe I can finish this turn…'
"At my Standby Phase, I activate H.L.V.'s effect! I send all three to the Graveyard to Special Summon three MS monsters from my Deck!"
He pulled out two [MS-06 Zaku II] and one [MS-05 Zaku I].
"Next, I Normal Summon another [MS-05 Zaku I] from my hand!"
The field was packed with iron giants.
"And I'm not done! I activate [Monster Reborn] to revive [MS-06 Zaku II]!"
A fifth Zaku returned to the field.
"Finally…"
Yuto's eyes sharpened as he flipped his last set card.
"I activate the Trap [Colony Drop]! I tribute all five of my monsters to deal damage equal to half their combined original Attack!"
Three Zaku II (1400 x 3 = 4200), two Zaku I (800 x 2 = 1600). Total: 5800.
Half = 2900 damage!
A colossal surge of energy fell like a crashing colony satellite, wiping Weevil's Life Points to zero!
[Congratulations, host. You've earned a booster pack. Specify a keyword to receive it in your bedroom.]
'Bedroom, huh… guess I can't add new cards mid-duel. I'll leave the keyword for later.' Yuto calmly walked over and took the two Star Chips from Weevil's glove.
"Weevil, you lost."
To Weevil, it was the devil's verdict. Eyes wide, he muttered in disbelief, "Im… impossible… how?"
Still dazed, he couldn't process the loss.
Yuto looked him in the eye and spoke firmly.
"Remember this, Weevil Underwood. Never underestimate your opponent—even if they don't know the rules."
He turned away. Yugi, Téa, and Tristan followed.
Joey, however, stepped up to Weevil and demanded his glove.
Dejected, Weevil handed it over—he had no use for it now. Then he collapsed onto the ground like a deflated balloon.
The five left the arena and climbed a cliff by the beach.
From here, they could overlook the surrounding area, the dueling fields sprawled below.
"Wow, amazing!"
Tristan and Yugi pointed excitedly. Across the fields, duelists battled fiercely.
"Everyone's already dueling!" Yugi exclaimed.
"There… there… they're everywhere!" Téa gasped.
The sight of fiery battles reignited Joey's spirit.
He clenched his fist and shouted:
"Yeah! I can't slack off either—I'm gonna duel too!"
