Chapter 40 - GYG [40]

"My turn! Draw!"

Yami Yugi's eyes swept over the card he drew—Dark Magician.

Another Soul Card of his other self…

Anyway, the priority now was saving Tristan!

Without hesitation, he slapped down a Spell Card.

"I activate the Spell Card—Monster Reborn! Targeting Command Knight in the Graveyard for a Special Summon!"

The dark vortex representing the Graveyard surged violently, and a battered figure was forcefully dragged back out, crashing onto the field—it was Tristan, clad in Command Knight's attire!

He collapsed to the ground, face pale, chest heaving as though he had just escaped a deadly pursuit, gasping desperately for breath.

"Hah… hah… I-I'm saved…"

"Tristan!"

Yami Yugi's heart steadied slightly, though the sense of urgency remained. That Set card loomed over him like the Sword of Damocles.

If it was Trap Hole… he had no choice but to gamble!

Resolute, Yami Yugi placed Dark Magician onto the field.

"Next, I summon Dark Magician in Attack Position!"

Light gathered, and a familiar figure appeared—it was Yugi Muto himself!

He wore the Dark Magician's iconic purple robes and pointed hat, staff in hand.

However, his slender frame, manifested through the card's power, appeared unusually petite and delicate.

Yami Yugi let out a breath of relief—Dark Magician had successfully been summoned.

"Two… two Yugis?!"

Tristan, fresh from the brink of death, was once again stunned beyond words.

"That Yugi over there…"

Yugi Muto turned, his voice carrying a trace of apology.

"That's the other 'me' who resides in the Millennium Puzzle…"

Yami Yugi gave a slight nod, his tone sincere.

"Sorry, Tristan. I should have been honest with you about the existence of the other me."

"No! Don't apologize!"

Tristan waved his hands quickly, a look of understanding on his face.

"Something like this… anyone would have a hard time saying it outright! I get it!"

"Mm! Thank you for understanding, Tristan!"

Yugi Muto's voice carried gratitude.

"Now then." Yami Yugi pulled the topic back to the duel, his sharp gaze locking onto Bakura's Set card. "The immediate priority is to deal with the threat before us! Dark Magician!"

He pointed at the face-down monster.

"Attack!"

"Mm!"

Yugi Muto immediately focused, gripping the staff with both hands, aiming at the target.

"Dark Magic Attack!"

At the moment the torrent of magic struck the card—

Whoosh!

The Set card flipped up!

Another Morphing Jar!

Yami Yugi's mind raced through countless thoughts, but his face remained calm.

Good thing none of my Soul Cards are in my hand anymore—they're all on the field.

Even if my hand is discarded, it's only a loss of resources… Sending his hand to the Graveyard, Yami Yugi drew five new cards.

Abruptly, as his eyes fell on them, his heart sank instantly.

The two Soul Cards yet to appear were both there.

Flame Swordsman and Magician of Faith!

Damn!

A chill crawled up his spine.

Only one monster can be summoned per turn… And Bakura's Deck could still be hiding a third Morphing Jar!

The possibility made him shudder.

If next turn his hand was once again forced to the Graveyard by Morphing Jar, then either Joey's or Téa's soul would be exposed to the Reaper's hunt!

"Judging by your expression…"

Bakura's voice slithered like a venomous snake, dripping with malicious insight.

"You must have drawn some very 'special' cards, right? Was it that noisy blond brat… or the sweet little miss?"

Yami Yugi's face twisted, his fingers clutching the cards so tightly they turned white.

The crushing pressure bore down on him like a mountain.

I have to protect them…

"Turn… end."

He forced the words out.

"My turn."

Bakura leisurely drew a card and set one down.

"I Set a Monster…"

The unknown card lay hidden like a new snare.

Then, he flipped the Trap he had long prepared.

"And I activate the Trap Card—Just Desserts!"

Yami Yugi's pupils shrank! He knew the effect of this card all too well!

"Just Desserts inflicts 500 points of burning soul-pain for each monster your opponent controls!"

Bakura's voice brimmed with sadistic delight.

Yami Yugi's gaze swept his field.

The petite Dark Magician, the freshly saved Command Knight, and the crimson war machine ACE – Char the Red Comet.

1500 Life Points vanished in an instant!

[Yami Yugi, LP: 2000 → 500]

"Gwaaah—!!!"

A soul-rending pain tore through him!

Yami Yugi felt as though his heart were gripped and ripped apart by cold iron claws!

His ribs groaned under the crushing strain, the agony forcing his vision to blacken.

His body shook violently, barely able to sit upright, clutching his chest as he gasped, sweat pouring down his forehead.

"Hahaha! Yugi, my turn is over! Savor the pain!"

Bakura's laughter echoed in the darkness.

"Yugi! Are you alright?!"

Tristan cried out anxiously from the field, horrified.

Yami Yugi clenched his teeth, forcing himself to straighten little by little despite the pain, sitting upright again.

He wiped the sweat from his brow, his voice trembling uncontrollably.

"I… I'm fine."

But his violently shaking hands and face pale as paper betrayed the torment he was enduring.

"It's just… if it happens one more time…"

He didn't finish, but the meaning was clear—only 500 LP remained. One more Just Desserts or any attack would mean defeat!

If I lose, everyone dies… I… I cannot lose!!!

That belief blazed within him like fire, supporting his wavering body.

"My turn—Draw!!!"

He roared with every ounce of strength and will, swinging his arm down as though entrusting all hope and despair into this single draw!

The instant his fingers touched the card back, a strange resonance stirred—the card seemed to respond to his unyielding will!

And when he saw what he drew, Yami Yugi's spirit ignited with fierce determination!

The drawn card was—Double Summon!

Now, Yami Yugi could summon both Flame Swordsman and Magician of Faith in a single turn!

"I activate the Spell Card, Double Summon!"
