Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 The one tower

Chapter 9 The one tower

Loud screams could be heard as the goblins jumped on each other to reach the spiral staircase. It sounded like many more than 10 of them, the desk wouldn't stop them as they could climb on top of them, but it should at least slow them down. The rest of the room did not have any useful tools, only some heavy lamps hanging from the slanted roof.

I stood next to the railing around the staircase exit, I pulled the shortsword out of its sheath and checked my mana quickly [44/44]. Activating [Fire Infusion] for 5 seconds I heated the shortsword up, hoping it would help me escape in some manner. The first goblin that appeared looked exactly the same as the one I had killed in the lower room, not waiting around I swung my sword and hit the first goblins head, injuring it but I couldn't hear any system message.

The time it took for me to pull my sword back was enough for the goblins to reach the very top of the staircase, they started pushing against the wooden desk. Another goblin was using the small railing to climb up the side, but before it managed to reach the top I stabbed the goblin in the chest through the spindles. Another goblin climbed on top of the dying one, screaming loudly as I slashed my sword across his neck and his head fell on the ground.

None of the goblins had any weapons or objects with them, only the loincloth covering their genitals. For every goblin Rohan killed, 2 would take their place. The pace was starting to pick up, the goblins were pushing against the heavy wooden desk, slightly moving it back which allowed 2 goblins to climb the fences. Rohan could still handle it as he either stabbed the goblins in the chest or lobbed their heads off if they got high enough.

He accumulated lots of experience as he heard the voice say.

The goblins started screaming louder and louder with every kill Rohan made, becoming more fierce as Rohan kept slaughtering them one by one. He became more familiar with the shortsword as he used it. Getting a hand of the weight, length and swinging it. But he was still far from being familiar with it, often fumbling to pull out the shortsword of a goblin. He kept racking up goblin kill, closing in on 10. That was when the goblins started jumping out of the staircase, pushing each of their own higher up and up until they could get in the tower. It started with just 2 goblins reaching the tower floor, but then it quickly became more as Rohan couldn't kill the amount that was coming up.

He slashed and hacked but slowly the goblins were able to get on the tower. They had stopped pushing the wooden desk, that was the only option for Rohan to escape. He jumped on top of the desk, seeing goblins move the other way to surround him he was cornered as he tried to keep them away. Screaming and clawing they were pushing on the table, the biggest threat came from the stairway as most goblins came from below.

The goblins on the back of the desk were pushing it into the stairs as it slowly moved into the stairs. Rohan kept trying to kill the goblins in the spiral stairway as he felt the balance of the desk start to change. A plan formed in his head. 'If I lean back the desk will stay on the floor and the goblins will try to push it again, but if I stand on the closest part to the stairs I can tip the desk over and send it tumbling downstairs as I jump of it… Sounds perfect'.

Having thought out my plan in a few seconds I moved one step back, keeping the desk balanced. The goblins pushed and clawed against the back, moving it every so slightly closer. 'This should be enough' Leaning forward on the end I felt the desk tip over and start to glide and push into the goblins on the stairs. 'Quickly bending through my knees I jumped up to the other side…or I tried to because as I jumped a goblin caught my foot from behind the desk and I slammed into the desk'.

The goblin had to let go of my leg when the desk started moving, I held my shortsword in one hand and took hold of the desk with the other. Scaring off the other goblins with the shortsword the desk started to move down the stairs, slow at first, but then picking up speed as it pushed the goblins to the ground. Some fell of the stairs or jumped off while the other got hit and squashed by the desk.

Rohan had a constant stream of notifications come in and he felt the gain of mana and levels.

[You have slain Goblin] [You have slain Goblin] [You have slain Goblin]

It took him 15 seconds to get down the stairs while laying on the desk, the goblins disorganized in the mess that it caused but were starting to scream again. My head was throbbing with a headache as I got up from the desk, shortsword in hand. I jumped off and smashed through goblins to reach another room. I noticed that the goblins weren't fighting back so much anymore, and there seemed to be less or I just killed too many. Moving through some goblins I reach a neighboring room and quickly closed the doors. The goblins were in a panic it seemed due to the desk falling and killing everyone on the staircase.

Moving through the room quickly I heard the goblins start screaming louder again, they weren't the brightest species. Hearing banging on the door they were starting to look for me as I moved to the next room, and then kept on going to four different rooms until I the staircase leading down. I started running again as the goblins came closer. The headache becoming worse and worse, and the system kept sending notifications. Rushing down the stairs I entered the 3rd floor, then the 2nd floor, 1st floor and then I made a dash for the outside. 'Dogshit luck, I almost died 8 times.'

Reaching the open sky Rohan almost dove of the stairs to the place where he left his bag. Packing his stuff while he kept running was a difficult challenge but he managed to keep his speed and sprinted for the exit of the castle gates. Looking behind him he didn't see any of the goblins chasing him as he left the estate in a hurry. Making his way back to the forest.
