Chapter 28 - Dragon's Roar

The next day, as soon as the sky brightened, the army began its advance towards Pyke Castle. King's Harbor was a three-hour journey away, and they arrived outside the castle just before noon. After eating and resting on the spot, the army formed ranks outside the castle walls, preparing for the siege.

The assault on the castle was carried out entirely by infantry. The terrain of Pyke Island was rugged and uneven, with strange rocks everywhere. Horses and ship transport were inconvenient, so cavalry combat wasn't even considered. Only Robert, Stark, and a few messengers rode horses. Jaime Lannister, Barristan, and Renly, along with several other Kingsguard, stood around them, maintaining a vigilant watch. The accompanying scholars took out their pens and recorded the battlefield situation in their notebooks.

Pyke Castle was built on cliffs, so it only had a wall on one side. The other three sides had cliffs and the constant crashing of waves, making it impossible for enemies to climb up.

The attacking formation was already in place. Because they had to stay a certain distance from the castle walls to avoid arrows, and because the terrain was uneven, several thousand people were divided into hundreds of small squares. Armored landing troops were in the front lines, with complete armor and weapons, uniform and standardized, to intimidate the enemy. The navy and sailors were regular troops, but they didn't wear armor and could only stand in the second row. Boatmen and laborers stood at the back to make up the numbers.

Vitt was the same as yesterday, holding a sword in his hand and wearing a noble's robe. He stood alone at the very front of the entire army, seeming out of place compared to the troops behind him who were ready to attack, like a negotiating envoy.

Siege warfare was very difficult for the attacking side. Even with a clear advantage, they had to try to avoid losses. Especially for the Iron Islands, where supplies relied entirely on ship transport. Once the siege failed, it would be very troublesome to organize another attack, so the army was waiting for the dew on the castle walls to dry.

It wasn't until the sun was high in the sky at noon that the signal officer sounded the first attack horn. The sound was short and sharp, signaling the assault troops to attack.

This was Vitt's first time on a battlefield in his two lifetimes.

Having watched countless historical war movies in his previous life, he could only appreciate the spectacle, the blood, the passion, and the bravery. Now, standing here, he could also feel the panic and anxiety of both sides, a mix of emotions that truly captured the reality of an ancient battlefield.

After nearly four years of research, he still couldn't create equipment to reduce mana consumption. He had to rely on the mana stored within his body to cast spells. Today, even if his mana was drained, he would show the world the power of Dragon Language Magic!

He sheathed his sword at his waist and began walking towards the walls of Pyke Castle. Both armies focused their attention on Vitt. The defenders on the walls began to fire arrows at him.

Vitt raised his right hand and released the Iron Armor Technique. His body was immediately covered in a silver-white glow, drawing gasps of amazement from both sides.

He needed to get closer to the walls; otherwise, the effects of his magic would be dispersed. Vitt began to sprint forward with all his might, charging towards the castle walls alone. This was the first time he had used his full strength in a real battle. His superhuman power made each step farther than an adult's stride. When the arrows got close, Vitt cast a Magic Barrier with one hand, a pale white shield that blocked the arrows, either deflecting them or causing them to fall to the ground.

Watching Vitt's heroic charge towards the enemy castle with a magical shield, the morale of the troops behind him soared. The entire army raised their weapons and roared in support of Vitt.

Vitt stopped about 20 meters from the castle walls, holding up a magic shield on each side to protect his body. Facing the castle walls through the gaps in his shields, he channeled the mana within him. He took a deep breath and roared:

"Fus, Ro~Bah~~~~!"

The friendly forces in the rear only saw Vitt rush to the front of the castle wall and stop. Then, they heard three unfamiliar words shouted in succession from Vitt's mouth. The sound was deafening, echoing across the entire battlefield. The sound surged with magic, creating echoes in the open space, with some even coming from the sky. Everyone was startled by the roar, their hearts skipping a beat.

The defenders on the castle walls in the direct line of fire fared much worse.

They first heard a shout that grew louder as it approached. By the time the last word was spoken, the first and second words had already reached their ears. It just sounded loud, nothing more.

But when the third word, "Dah," exploded, a visible shockwave erupted from Vitt's mouth, directly impacting the castle wall. The shockwave was a combination of magic and sound waves, amplified by Dragon Language Magic. Starting from the size of a fist, it gradually expanded, reaching nearly 5 meters wide by the time it hit the wall.

The castle wall was directly blasted open, creating a gap almost 5 meters in diameter. The defenders on the wall were pulverized. Debris, flesh, bone fragments, and blood splattered everywhere. Some fragments even flew dozens of meters high. The residual force of the shockwave, mixed with smoke and dust, swept into the city, further destroying several buildings. Even the defenders further away on the wall were bleeding from their orifices.

The accompanying scholars were also furiously writing. The entire scholarly institution generally disliked magic. This time, there was someone in the army who could ignite a sword with fire, which they considered a mere trick. But Vitt's current attack, which broke through the city wall, was real magic. It completely shattered their previous understanding, and they were all excited to record this historic moment.

Vitt was also using this in actual combat for the first time. The book he took from his space stated that Unrelenting Force was used by ancient dragonborn to attack cities. During practice, he would find an empty place and shout into the air. Dragon Language Magic would become more powerful as the user's understanding of the incantation deepened. Seeing this effect, using Unrelenting Force and depleting almost half of his mana was worth it.

Now the castle wall was in chaos. Some were hit by falling stones, some were bleeding from their orifices and wailing in pain. The friendly forces were mostly in shock, with some still reeling from the earth-shattering roar.

Vitt drew his longsword with his right hand, extended his arm, and swung it in a half-circle, the blade pointing directly at the gap in the castle walls.

Robert, upon seeing this, gave the order, "Mmm...!" A loud, high-pitched horn blast echoed out, signaling the entire army to attack!

Vitt's magical assault had completely terrified the defenders on the castle walls. Arrows were useless, and a single roar could hurl the walls into the air. They had already begun to flee towards the Inner City.

Meanwhile, the royal army, having recovered from their initial shock, reached peak morale. They roared with abandon as they charged towards the castle. Especially those from The North. The first to reach the base of the castle walls was Jorah Mormont, the Lord of Bear Island.

Their force was the largest for this island invasion. According to the original plan, while they were constructing siege equipment, the fleet from The Reach would land with their troops to join them. However, this was moved up because of Vitt. They were still making their way by sea.

Vitt had protection on him. He held a magic shield in his left hand and a sword in his right, cutting down the fleeing soldiers at the base of the wall. He could use magic, and half of his game system skills were for close combat. He also had stat points that went above the norm, and his physical attributes far surpassed that of a normal adult.

Being surrounded would be a death sentence, but these fleeing soldiers, although numerous, had already lost their will to fight. They all wanted to grow three legs and run to the Inner City, not daring to attack Vitt. When Jorah ran through the gap, he saw Vitt, a half-grown boy, chasing after people and hacking at them.

Vitt had been fighting near the gap in the wall, waiting for support and not venturing deep into enemy territory, fearing that he would push the fleeing soldiers too far and they would rally and surround him. Seeing a large man wearing Northern-style armor, with a black bear emblem on his chest, leading a group of people, he immediately shouted:

"Jorah, follow me!"

Jorah and several family members immediately gathered around Vitt, assisting him as they charged towards the Inner City.

Yesterday, the two had met in Robert's tent. Jorah had thought this kid was just here to earn military merit, and he looked down on Vitt. But just now, when he saw Vitt's roar send a magical shockwave that shattered the stone city wall, he realized that Vitt simply hadn't bothered with those rotten wooden structures in King's Harbor yesterday. A single roar would probably have torn a street apart.

Following this, the soldiers from The North rushed through the breach in the city wall, quickly eliminating the defenders who hadn't retreated to the Inner City. At this point, the Outer City was occupied. Vitt and Jorah led several hundred men to continue their advance towards the Inner City gate.

The soldiers who followed behind finished off every fallen defender on the ground, stabbing those without armor in the heart and beheading those with armor. Some were seriously injured but still alive, so they were finished off, fearing that some might be feigning death and suddenly attack.

Because the terrain of the Inner City was more treacherous, the castle and the Outer City were only connected by a suspension bridge. Below the bridge were dozens of meters of cliffs and the sea. At the end of the bridge was a closed wooden gate, and there were two towers on the castle, one on each side.

The suspension bridge was too narrow, only allowing two people to pass side by side. It also swayed left and right, forcing people to hold on. But the archers on the towers would shoot arrows. Several Northerners who had rushed forward to seize merit had already been shot to death. The people behind could only watch helplessly as they were injured and fell off the bridge. The waves below were surging and roaring; it was unlikely that even their bodies would be recovered.
