Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: The Promise

Tsunade pulled An Yan through the streets until they reached an empty alley.

She looked at him curiously. "An Yan, you really know a lot of things. Do you have any other hidden talents I don't know about?"

My 'talent' is that I'm very 'long'. An Yan wanted to make a joke, but he held back. You can't be a smartass in front of the girl you like.

He just spread his hands helplessly. "You know I like to read. I've picked up a lot of useless knowledge. I never know when I might remember something and use it. I couldn't list them all if you asked."

Tsunade smiled and nodded, but for some reason, An Yan felt her smile was a little dangerous.

The next moment, she pinned him against the wall and kicked her leg up onto his shoulder in a full split.

"Then can you tell me who you're 'thinking of across time' in that song? Don't tell me it's your parents. I may not know much about music, but I can tell that's not it."

An Yan felt a cold sweat break out. If his answer was even slightly wrong, he was probably going to get a flying kick to the face.

His mind raced. He smiled gently and patted Tsunade's head.

"It's a very long story. Are you willing to listen?"

Tsunade felt that things were not as she had imagined. She blushed, took a step back, and lowered her leg.

An Yan's back was sweating, but he remained composed.

The two of them walked to the Hokage Rock.

They sat together on the head of the First Hokage's giant stone statue, looking at the twinkling lights of Konoha.

Tsunade listened quietly as An Yan told her a story from another world.

"A long, long time ago, in the Warring States Period, there was a shrine maiden named Kikyo. She was born with great power and a special destiny..."

"...In the end, Inuyasha held Kikyo in his arms. He said with tears in his eyes, 'I'm sorry I couldn't do anything for you.' But Kikyo replied, 'You came to my side. That's enough.' And then, she turned into a rain of light and disappeared in his arms..."

Tsunade was sobbing, hugging An Yan tightly, her tears soaking his chest.

"That story is so moving, An Yan. You have to write it down, or draw it. I really want to know what the kind-hearted Kikyo looked like."

An Yan helped her up, wiped away her tears, and said gently, "I promise you, Tsunade. I will draw this story and have it published, so everyone will know the story of Kikyo and Inuyasha."

"Okay," Tsunade said, her eyes red and her voice choked with tears.

Time passed. They sat on the Hokage Rock, watching the lights in the village gradually go out, but neither of them wanted to leave.

It wasn't until the entire village was dark and it was very late that Tsunade reluctantly said she had to go home.

An Yan walked her back to the Senju compound in the dark.

Tsunade tiptoed into the courtyard, trying to sneak back to her room, but was suddenly blocked by a figure.

It was Mito Uzumaki.

"G-Grandma Mito."

Tsunade was startled and started to stammer. She stood there, looking pitiful.

But Mito just smiled and patted her head. With her Kagura Mind's Eye, she already knew why Tsunade was home so late. Everyone was young once. Mito didn't blame her.

She looked at Tsunade and said gently, "Little Tsunade, you can't come back so late next time, okay?"

Tsunade was relieved and nodded quickly. I'll admit my mistake, but whether I'll change is another story.

Seeing Tsunade scurry into her room, Mito sighed to herself, It's nice to be young.

She didn't know what the two of them had talked about to make little Tsunade cry like that. But since Tsunade didn't say anything, she would pretend she didn't know. That was the wisdom of the elderly.

In her room, Tsunade washed up, replaying the day's events in her mind. The more she thought, the more she blushed. As the princess of the Senju clan, her behavior today hadn't been very ladylike. But An Yan didn't seem to mind. The thought made her blush even more.

Meanwhile, An Yan was back at his own house. After a ten-minute wash-up, he jumped into bed.

He opened the system screen. It was flooded with notifications. "+1 Reputation" messages were everywhere.

He glanced at it. Just by playing one song, he had gained over 300 reputation points, almost as much as he usually got in a month.

Reputation systems really are made for celebrities, not for a stealthy ninja like me.

With his previously saved points, he could do a ten-pull wish today.

He immediately used his reputation to wish.

Meteors streaked across the sky. After the animation, he got what he wanted.

Fire Talisman - A staff

Metal Talisman - A golden bell

Water Talisman - A water-drop pendant

With these three, there was nothing good left in the Sifu wish pool. He had drawn all five talismans.

The remaining rewards were just basic stat bonuses, like "+1 Spirit" or "+1 Physique."

If he had gotten these when he first arrived in this world, he might have been happy. But now, he knew how little a single stat point mattered. He wasn't very excited.

Since the wish pool was empty, An Yan decided to save up his reputation points for the next one and drain it completely.

Speaking of which, the three new talismans each had their own domain space and unique abilities.

The Fire Talisman allowed the user to control fire and also share its power, boosting others' strength and defense.

The Water Talisman was similar, but it also enhanced a person's spiritual power. The boss who held it in the game had even developed a split personality because of it.

The Metal Talisman was different. The small golden bell could emit golden ripples. Within the range of these ripples, the holder could teleport freely. It was basically an alternate-world version of the Flying Thunder God Technique. In a xianxia world, it might be called Golden Light Evasion.

The question now was how to use these things. Should he give them to Tobirama to study? It seemed he hadn't made much progress with the Wood Talisman yet.

After much thought, An Yan decided to keep the talismans for now and use them to help him develop his own chakra nature transformations.
