The shock was starting to wear off but I still had these little moments where I wanted to pinch myself to see if that truly happened. For example, right now with Jodi asking me questions about my conversation with the king and his mother and her shock at how it turned out.
"He really agreed to that?" She asked for the third time and I nodded.
"And you're sure he's going to keep his end of the deal?" She asked, and I nodded again.
"He said he'd bring the written decree to the ritual ground."
"And you're sure he will?" She asked, leaning from behind me to meet my gaze.
I saw the worry in her eyes and I couldn't blame her. "What if he doesn't? What if all this is just a ploy to get you to show up for the ritual? You can't trust him, Nara. You already went through all the preparations for the ritual. What if they're just trying to manipulate you? No one agrees to such a demand, enacting a law just like that."
