I had thought that Emma and I were closer than we were. But it was clearly my delusion. The person I had been closest to was Theo and no one else.
The kindness Emma had shown me was rare, but it was nothing special for her. I could still tell that she was more excited to have her son with her than she was to talk to me… not that I blamed her.
After all, Edwin was her flesh and blood, someone she had known since birth and someone she had seen grow up.
Compared to Edwin, I had been a far smaller part of her life. So I could understand why I was not no. 1 for Emma.
But knowing the truth did not make it hurt any less for me. Not to mention, the fact that Emma did not recall Theo also left a sour taste in my throat that I could not get rid of.
"Emma, thank you for taking care of me for all this time. But I think it's time I chose the path I was meant to be. I will be leaving to join Luminous now."
