Chapter 56 - The end

He was there just moments ago, where did he go?!

That bastard, it was just few hours, why did he run away?

She waited for years without wavering but he couldn't wait for just few hours.

That petty man! Ridiculous!

'Ma'am' Nathan on the other side bump forward, smiling warmly yet fakely. All he need to do is to please this woman and he would be able to see his Amethyst.

'Can I come in now ma? I promise not to make her wait again.' He said, his face still screwed up with a polite smile.

'Where is the old man?' Goldie finally asked, wanting to know when he leave. Maybe something came up and he have to leave urgently. Or maybe he was really cold and went somewhere to take shelter. He can't possibly run away. He won't, she trust he won't.

'Oh you mean father-in-law?' Nathan answered while Goldie glared at him. Which father-in-law. He is father-in-name, not father-in-law. As long as she did not accept him, he can't be the father-in-law.

'he had some important business to take care of…

Uh! Important? Are the business more important that her?

'… at the backyard. Should I go to call him over.' He completed his word which make the frown on goldie's face dissipated.

Oh, he is still around but in the backyard. That's a relief. But doing what? What is he doing at the backyard.

'Come in…

'Thank you ma'am.' Nathan outsmarted, smiling widely.

'… for the laundry.' She concluded while half of the smile on his face disappeared. Is he gonna do the laundry?

'Go and call that old geezer. You both should get in now or freeze outside if I change my mind.' She concluded, turn back and walked into the house.

She walk straight to the store, pretending to the arranging it but climb on a stood, peeping at killian who stood there, molding a snowman.

Her cheek turn a shade of red instantly, memories from the past rushing to her head.

She remembered telling him to build her a snowman whenever she is angry so that she can forgive him an if it is in the summer, he had to built a sand man.

'Silly him, he didn't forget.' She mumbled to herself, blushing excessively.

'Forget what?' A voice suddenly rang beside her and "What!!!" she flinched, screaming in horror!

'Why did you creep in like that? Don't you make noise when walking?' Goldie turn to look at her, clutching her chest with brow screwed up.

'ugh! I called you several times but you didn't answer, what are you looking at out there?' she replied, passing back the accusation to her.

'Woa… wha… what's there to look at. I was just arranging the store room.' she replied, her cheek turning "tomato red" from embarrassment.

'Right where you're standing?' she pondered, pointing at the stood while Goldie climbs down, scratching the back of her head.

'Ah hum… I was checking if the stood is strong. Stop the interview and let's go and eat.' She change the topic and quickly scurry out of the store room while Amethyst's lips curled up, nodding negatively.

Yes, she won't admit easily.

She walked out of the store room and head back to the sitting room, staring at Goldie who sat on the sofa, pretending to be watching movie.

'Mom.' she called but Goldie didn't turn back to look at her, her gaze still fixed on the television. 'I love you." She said while Goldie turn to look at her.

'Let's forgive Dad and Nathan, they feel sorry.' she added. Knowing that was the thing Goldie was waiting for.

If it is her alone, she would have forgive Killian but Amethyst as the daughter, must be feeling bad and angry. At the age of 20, a man just show up and claim to be your father. You sure won't want to accept him. He had failed Amethyst the most so she want Amethyst to be the one to forgive him. If Amethyst did not forgive him, she wouldn't accept him back.

'You don't have to force yourself to forgive that bastard. He deserves it big time. He hadn't been there for you so it is only right to be angry. Vent your anger all you like. I can permit Nathan but him, let him suffer a bit more.' Goldie said, her face cold.

'I know he hadn't been there, but he was there when I needed help the most. If he hadn't help me that night, Nathan might have been dead. Though he isn't the sweetest person on earth, I can still say he is a good person. For you to fall for him and decide to spend the rest of your life with him, he must have been a great person. I just wasn't fortunate enough to see the sweet him so now, I'm giving him the chance to set everything straight. The chance to right his wrongs. Mom please, let's forgivee him this time, he deserves a second chance.' She replied while Goldie stood up from where she was staying.

'You're all grown up sweetie.' she said.

****

Nathan's head tilt to look at Killian who stand by the doorstep, hands on the knob of the door but he couldn't raise the courage to o

twist it open. They heard all what Amethyst said now.

Indeed, he had failed as a father but… since he is getting another chance, he would make sure to utilize it well.

After waiting for what seems like forever, he twist the the knob and push the door open, walking in slowly like a guilty scared cat. He glared at Goldie before moving her gaze to Amethyst.

'I… Thank you, Amethyst. This second chance means everything to me, and I'll make sure to guard it with my life.' He said, his eyes sincere yet warm. He would make sure to make up for the past.

Amethyst looked at them, her mother standing firmly behind her, the woman who never left; her father in front of her, the man who returned; and Nathan, the man she loved, hiding just enough to show fear, yet close enough to show hope.

She breathed in, steady and sure.

"We've all failed each other in different ways," she said softly.

"But I choose peace over bitterness, and tomorrow over yesterday. If you stay, if you grow, then this… this is forgiveness." she concluded, Goldie smiling proudly from behind.

Challenges has come and they have overcome it. After rain comes rainbow, after bitterness comes sweetness and after all chaos, peace gave way.
