Ruby's question hung in the air. Voices started to rise around her, the guests leaning in like wolves circling fresh meat.

"We don't even know her," a woman whispered, folding her arms. "She just walks in and accuses someone. Why should we believe her? Prove it, then."

A few polite claps came from those who had to be kind on the surface. Most of them did not like Ruby, but they smiled because they have keep up with appearance.

"Show us your proof," someone called. "Where's your evidence?"

Ruby's smile sweetly.

She remembered the message on her phone — how Esteban refused to sell the original to her. But she had boasted to friends, shown pictures, let them all envy her. When he said no, pride burned in her chest. She had not given up.
