"T-This is really creepy, Red… maybe we should just go back…"
"If you keep squeezing me so tightly, we'll have to go back, because I'll have suffocated," I said dryly, glancing back at Joy, who was hugging me far too tightly as we sat on the back of my Gyarados. I didn't mind the way her large breasts were pressing into my back, but I certainly did mind the way her arms were squeezing me so tightly that I could barely breathe.
"She's not wrong! This place is… kind of scary…" Misty called forward in agreement, riding upon her own Gyarados with Jessie, and, honestly, I didn't disagree with either her or Joy's words.
Cerulean Cave wasn't just creepy - it was damn scary! This place had been a bit creepy in the games to begin with, but it didn't do the real thing justice at all.
It was dark - as in, so dark that I could barely even see the water beneath us, and the only reason I could see that was because of my Charmander. At the moment, I was doing a pretty difficult balancing act, as I clutched onto Gyarados' scales with one arm while the other held Charmander above my head, ensuring the little fire dinosaur didn't get splashed by the water we were passing through. The awkward position only made the experience of maneuvering through Cerulean Cave even more annoying, as the scales tore into my arm, drawing a bit of blood.
Beyond the awkward and frankly painful position I was in, there was an even bigger concern as narrowed eyes gleamed through the darkness around us, and the occasional flap of a Golbat's wings caused Joy to squeeze me tighter - ripping the air from my lungs in the process. My eyes were constantly darting around as we moved through the dark water, careful of any pokemon actually coming to attack us.
This was where the real danger came - every pokemon in this cave would be crazy fuckin' strong! Mewtwo itself would be level 70, and the only way I had any chance of catching it was using my strategy, but the other pokemon weren't pushovers either - they would all have the experience of a level 50+ pokemon, along with being actually powerful pokemon to begin with.
Add in those pokemon with the rough water that my Gyarados was pushing through, which constantly jostled me, and with the pitch darkness around us? I felt like I was in a damn horror movie! It seemed that I might've really bitten off more than I could chew here, as I had expected this journey to go much smoother than it was, since pretty much everything in this world so far had been simple!
Luckily, I did have a plan to get through this cave and not have all my blood sucked out by Golbat's in the process. They were too strong to try to catch, as I had a limited amount of supplies for my Mewtwo plan, so I had to do the next best thing - which I called out as two eyes suddenly came soaring at me from the darkness, two large fangs being bared as a Golbat shot down at us.
"Joy! Shoot his ass!"
"G-Got it!" One of Joy's hands left its place around my waist, instead moving up to point a thick item at the Golbat, "GO THE FUCK AWAY!"
She squeezed the top of the can in her hand, and a jolt of white-ish air shot forward, slamming into Golbat as it got close to Gyarados. The air slammed into the bat, and it let out a shriek of pain as it immediately swerved around Gyarados, and then likely slammed into one of the rocky walls in the darkness around us, as I heard a loud 'conk.'
Luckily for me, getting through an area full of dangerous pokemon was pretty easy when you had a 'pokemon get the fuck away' device on you - aka, a Repel! I hadn't been certain if this plan would work or not, as in the games, a Repel only kept away pokemon weaker than your leading party member, but then I thought - how the fuck would the world know?
This wasn't a game, it was real life! How would having a stronger pokemon at the top of my pocket somehow make the Repel more effective? It was the same can, and the same stuff within the can, regardless of what pokemon I had on me!
"It's gone," I said dryly as Joy continued to squeeze the can, her eyes squeezed shut as she waved the 'Repel' can around wildly, "Stop wasting the Repels!"
I was glad to have Joy with me, as it would've been difficult to hold up Charmander, hold onto Gyarados, and fend off pokemon with the Repels. But, at the same time, I wished I had Misty or Jessie sharing this Gyarados with me, because Joy had a pretty big fear of blood-sucking bats.
For someone who made fun of trainers for being stupid, which she wasn't wrong about, Joy was really dancing the line of intelligence right now. She had been trained to be a nurse, so while she wasn't stupid like trainers were, she was something that was worse for this situation - inexperienced with wild pokemon. For the Caterpie, Spearows, and Rattata that we usually passed on the routes, it wasn't a big deal, but in this dark cave? With blood-sucking bats rushing at her?
Joy was terrified, and as a result, was spraying me with more Repel than the Golbat's as she waved the can wildly. On one hand, I was glad she was passionate about the job I gave her, but on the other? I really didn't like being sprayed with Repel, and I think her screams were just attracting more Golbats the deeper we went.
Of course, over the next roughly hour, we saw more than just Golbats and went through more than a few Repels. As we went past various powerful pokemon within the cave, ranging from Poliwhirls to Rhydons to Venomoths to even Chanseys, I was definitely tempted to say 'fuck it' and start trying to catch them. But, for my Mewtwo plan, I needed my pokemon to be as healthy as they could be, and I was betting I'd need all 100 of my poke balls. So, I painfully let them flee as Joy sprayed Repel's at them frantically.
Cerulean Cave was formatted in the most annoying way possible, as it constantly jumped between land and water - having a five-minute stretch riding on Gyarados, then walking for another ten, then back onto the water for the next ten. Add in the occasional ladder to go down a floor, and it was a real pain in the ass. I would've much preferred just riding through the water the entire way, or walking, rather than the constant switching. And, as fatigue weighed on my shoulders, I wasn't the only one.
"A-Are you sure we're going the right way?" Misty finally asked after nearly an hour and a half, "There are all sorts of powerful pokemon in here, Red! Let's just try to get one of them! We're never going to find this 'mysterious' pokemon in all the darkness!"
"I agree with the bimbo," Joy spoke up, agreeing and offending Misty in the process, "If we go too deep, then we'll seriously get lost, Red! You spent all of our money on poke balls, so we only have the food I packed from Pewter City, which is more like snacks than actual food…"
"I considered that, so I bought food at the Poke Mart along with the balls," I justified, reaching back into my backpack as we were walking on a ground section at the moment, and pausing as I shuffled through it. I pressed through the massive pile of poke balls - which took up more than just my backpack, as I had to buy a second one to fill up, which Jessie was wearing right now - until I finally found what I was looking for.
"See?" I grinned, pulling out a large bag, and got three dry stares in response.
"That's pokemon food," Joy deadpanned at the bag, "As in, pokemon eat it. Not us."
"If it's good enough for Charmander, it's good enough for me," I shrugged, and Charmander cheered in response as he sat on my shoulder like a child, "If you guys want to turn around and head back, you can. I'll starve before I give up."
Admittedly, 'starve' was probably pushing it, as I'd just turn around in a couple of hours if I really couldn't find Mewtwo - but I was still damn determined to find him! This wasn't just some strong pokemon, like an Arcanine or a Rhydon, that I was looking for - It was fuckin' Mewtwo, and there was only one of him!
If I gave up now and someone else caught him, I'd be pissed for the rest of my life. Do you know how painful it would be to watch Lance misuse a literal Mewtwo? If he was anything like the gym leaders, then he'd just spam Psychic a hundred times in a row!
Granted, with Mewtwo, that wasn't really a bad strategy. But, either way, Lance wasn't getting Mewtwo! I was, damn it!
"Hah… this is what I get for following around a trainer," Joy sighed, but then just continued to trudge forward, walking with me deeper into the darkness of the cave. Her actions were quickly followed by Misty and Jessie, and we continued forward together, forging through the darkness of Cerulean Cave.
Until, finally, I spotted what I was looking for. After taking a ladder down to the bottom floor, and a bit more walking, and then finally more surfing on Gyarados, we arrived at a small, island-like pile of rocks in the middle of a large open portion of water. Not that it was easy to arrive here, as while in the games you could just see where it was, and then surf to it, it was dark as hell in real life - so, Gyarados swam around for almost ten minutes before I spotted it through the small light Charmander emitted.
"This… is it?" Joy asked doubtfully as I reached back, helping her climb off Gyarados and onto the small platform with me.
"It is," I nodded, glancing forward as there was a large set of stairs, and at the top was where Mewtwo should be. The keyword here was 'should' - as he was there in the game, but I couldn't be certain if he would be in this exact spot in this world. But I really hoped he was, because I did not want to spend a few more hours exploring this cave!
"Alright, time to prepare," I hummed as Jessie and Misty also stepped onto the platform. I reached down into my pockets, which were constantly bulging from holding the poke balls, and pulled the other five of mine.
"Come on out, Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Bulbasaur, and Ho-oh Weedle!" I said dramatically, releasing all of my pokemon at once, except for Gyarados, and causing them all to pop out of their poke balls.
"Now, you guys do the same," I said, glancing over my shoulder at the three women, "Every little bit will help, but keep your Gyarados in its ball."
Honestly, I didn't think they'd really be much of help at all, as Joy just had one Blissey, and Jessie had nothing but a Rattata and Zubat, but the more pokemon we had, the better.
"A-All of them except Gyarados?" Misty muttered, looking at me strangely as she obliged, releasing all her pokemon, "Why are we doing this?"
"Isn't it obvious?" I said, my lips shifting into a large grin, "The pokemon is right up there, and we're going to jump his ass!"
"W-What?" Misty shot back blankly, staring at me with wide eyes, "L-Like… we're all going to rush at him?"
"No, that would be stupid," I shook my head, as this was a level 70 pokemon we were talking about. I had actually considered that strategy, as if we just all ran at him and held him down, then he'd eventually get caught, right?
Unfortunately, I think any attempt to do so would end up with us very, very dead. Probably by drowning, as Mewtwo would've just shoved us off into the rough waters surrounding the small rock island. Instead, I had a better idea.
"Just trust me," I said bluntly, walking forward as I headed to the steps, and I felt a bit nervous. But, more than nervous, I felt excited.
This world had been easy so far - far too easy. Even the guard outside the cave had been pretty easy to handle despite his powerful and high-level pokemon. Now, I was finally up against a real challenge - a level 70 pokemon, and the strongest pokemon in this region. Mewtwo wouldn't go down easily, and I knew this would be tougher than any trainer or gym battle I'd had so far.
After roughly a minute of climbing up the rather high stairs, I reached the top and found what I was looking for. The top layer of the rock structure was flat on the floor, with two large piles of rocks towards the back, and in the middle was a familiar pokemon.
"Mewtwo," I grinned, staring at the gray-purple legendary pokemon. Honestly, it was a bit intimidating just standing here, as he was a lot bigger than I thought - standing at well over six feet tall, and with a thick body.
I don't know why you're here, but I'll warn you as I did the last human…
I blinked, wincing lightly as a voice suddenly resounded in my head, and judging by Misty reaching up to clutch at her head, I wasn't the only one hearing it.
I let him leave with his life, but I am not kind enough to spare humans twice… I am a being made solely for battle, and I have no compassion for fools…
I reached into my bag, grabbing a poke ball as Mewtwo spoke in my head - I knew this would happen, and while I hadn't warned the other three, I had been ready for it. Mewtwo was a 'pokemon,' but he was a lab-created one, and had intelligence far surpassing pretty much any other pokemon in existence. He could think like a human, and speak like one using telepathy - if it weren't for his insane psychic powers, and the fact that he was a gray-purple alien lookin' monster, he would've been rather human-like.
Leave now, or I will kill-
"Get in the ball, fucker!" I cut him off, catching the pokemon by surprise as I chucked a poke ball forward, and it slammed into Mewtwo's front. It bounced off him, and then snapped open as a red light shot forward, and sucked the pokemon into it.
"Now, throw out your Gyarados, Misty!" I ordered quickly, tossing my own one forward as the poke ball landed on the ground, and we didn't have long.
"G-Gyarados? But there's no water!" Misty shot back as my Gyarados indeed appeared on the rocks, flopping around a bit as it had no water to swim in.
"Just do it! We'll recall them in a second!" I called out as Mewtwo popped out of the ball, the poke ball snapping without shaking even once. As he did, his face was twisted in annoyance, even as his eye twitched at the sight of the duo of Gyarados.
His foot shifted back instinctively as, despite the huge level and power difference, two Intimidates took effect, and his Attack dropped by two stages. Mewtwo was primarily a Special attacker, but he did have one Physical move, and this was covering for that. However, the bigger reason for using it was something I observed during my battle with Misty - Intimidate was an effect, but it was also a real thing. When my Buffasaur had been intimidated by her, he hadn't just dropped in Attack - he had been really intimidated, and as a result, took a nervous step backward. It was only a small timeframe, but every second counted here. As Mewtwo shifted back, looking nervous for just a split second as the Intimidates took effect, I gave the next flurry of orders.
"Pikachu, Thunder Shock! Charmander, Ember! Bulbasaur, Water Gun! Actual Bulbasaur, Vine Whip! Ho-oh Weedle, teleport around or some shit! Hopefully you get some EXP!" I called out in a flurry, and all my pokemon immediately obeyed.
A flurry of attacks shot forward at Mewtwo, and even as he was easily more than 50 levels higher than any of my pokemon, he hadn't expected such an attack. The Thunder Shock slammed into him, sending lightning shocking through him as he pretty much took no damage, and didn't even flinch. The Ember, Water Gun, and Vine Whip followed up - all slamming into Mewtwo, and doing pretty much nothing in the process.
What are you doing, you stupid human-
"Stay the fuckin' ball this time!" I chucked forward another poke ball, cutting off Mewtwo as it bounced into him, and then sucked the pokemon into the poke ball again, "Now, recall Gyarados!"
"W-What the hell are you doing, Red?!" Misty called out, her eyes wide as I put Mewtwo in another poke ball, and recalled my Gyarados, "Y-You can't just tell all your pokemon to attack at once!"
"Says who?" I replied dryly, gesturing at her Gyarados quickly, "Recall him quick, or he's gonna drown."
"R-Right!" Misty recalled Gyarados as Mewtwo's ball snapped open again, the pokemon popping out as I instantly chucked forward Gyarados again.
"Again!" I called out, both to Misty and also to my pokemon, "Hit him again! Aim for the face!"
Do you think these worthless attacks will stop me-
Mewtwo raised his hands, his body glowing lightly with pink psychic energy, but was cut off again- not by my poke ball this time, but as a Water Gun slammed into his face. And, a Thunder Shock, Vine Whip, and Ember as well as a second later. The glow didn't fade, but Mewtwo at least glanced away as all the beams made contact with his face.
STOP THIS FOOLISHNESS!
I resisted wincing as his voice boomed in my head, and he swiped his hand sideways - taking control of the weak attacks with his psychic power, and throwing them to the side. But, as he did, Gyarados reappeared - flopping on the ground as Intimidate activated, and his focus was broken as his back stiffened.
Then, another poke ball slammed into him, and he was sucked into it.
"Y-You can't do this, Red! It's against the rules to use multiple pokemon against one!" Misty shouted, sounding a bit panicked as she waved her hands at me frantically, "You have to use one at a time!"
"Says who?" I deadpanned over at her again, ignoring her as I recalled Gyarados and got ready to throw him out again, "What damn rules?"
"W-Well… it's just… what we… do?" Misty blinked, her brain working overtime as she thought about why trainers used one pokemon at a time in a battle, "I-It's just… the… rules…"
"We're deep in this scary-ass cave with no one to help us!" I yelled over to her bluntly, chucking out Gyarados again as Mewtwo popped out of the poke ball with only one shake, "There are no rules! Start telling your pokemon to attack, or you heard what he said! This fucker is gonna kill us!"
"B-Blissey! Use pound!" Joy caught on the quickest, ordering her pokemon as Blissey lunged at Mewtwo as Gyarados appeared, and he stiffened from another Intimidate taking effect.
"You all, keep going! Thunder Shock! Ember! Water Gun! Bulbasaur, start using Growth!" I ordered quickly, then glanced over at Misty, "Get to ordering, damn it!"
"F-Fine! Staryu, Starmie, Water Gun!" She ordered, and the extra attacks launching into Mewtwo made up for Bulbasaur slowly becoming Buffasaur.
Of course, Mewtwo wasn't just standing there and letting the attacks hit him - well, actually, he was doing exactly that, as it was hard to avoid seven different attacks at the same time, but he wasn't happy about it!
YOU WILL ALL DIE-
Another poke ball slapped into him, and he was sucked into it as I recalled Gyarados again.
"W-Was this seriously your genius plan?!" Jessie called out a bit doubtfully as she finally got involved, tensing and ready to order her Zubat and Rattata.
"I told you we were going to jump his ass," I nodded unashamedly, and a second later, called out the string of commands again as Mewtwo popped out of the poke ball with only one shake.
The attacks were really doing next to nothing against Mewtwo, as at level 70 his HP would've easily been in the 200s. By comparison, all the non-supereffective attacks from pokemon between level 10 and 20 were doing only a couple of damage - literally, as I was pretty sure my underleveled Bulbasaur, who was actually a Squirtle, was only doing 1 to 2 damage with every Water Gun.
But, each attack didn't need to do a lot of damage, because I could abuse something that was also different in real life from the game - poke balls. In the game, you had to waste a turn to throw a poke ball, and thus not get any damage off, while allowing the wild pokemon to do damage if it broke free. But, right here?
It was an overpowered-ass stall. I could continue to chuck poke balls at Mewtwo, thus stalling him out as he had to break free, and the only difficulty in doing so was actually hitting him - which wasn't actually as hard as I thought it would be. I figured Mewtwo would be quick enough to dodge the balls, but I guess I couldn't blame him for not avoiding them when seven different beams of energy were constantly shooting at him, a Gyarados was constantly intimidating him, and a Blissey was slapping him across the face every time he popped out of a ball.
Sufficient to say, my strategy was working perfectly, even if it was enraging Mewtwo in the process.
YOU ALL-
"Nope, into the poke ball you go."
I WILL SQUISH YOU INTO-
"Into a poke ball? Because that's what's happening to you right now."
YOU DARE TO-
"Dare to shove you into a poke ball? I feel like you should be used to it at this point!"
YOU ARE ALL COWARDS-
"Yup. A coward that's about to have a Mewtwo."
I continued to chuck ball after ball, passing ten, then twenty, then thirty, and even forty as Mewtwo continued to break out in a rage. He did start getting some moves in as he reached -6 Attack, and Intimidate didn't do anything anymore, but the onslaught of nine different pokemon was simply too much. His attempts to fight back were quickly foiled, as the closest pokemon to him was the Pound-using Blissey - the Special Wall itself, which still probably would've fainted from one hit, but Mewtwo wasn't getting the chance to do much besides lift it into the air before he was sucked into another poke ball.
"I-I know you're tired, Staryu, but keep it up!" Misty yelled encouragingly, as all of our pokemon were definitely tiring out after spamming so many attacks. The physical manifestation of PP had already taken effect, but luckily, I had planned for as much, and both myself and the three women were switching between attacks.
"Keep trying, Blissey! Covet this time!" Joy called - which I had to tell her was a move, as she'd been shocked to realize her Blissey knew more than just Pound - and I quickly followed up.
"Electro Ball, Pikachu!" I ordered, and the small mouse's electricity raced forward, forming a ball in front of him, which flung into Mewtwo as I chucked another ball.
I didn't even know Pikachu had Electro Ball already, but I was just throwing shit out after he had used a bunch of Thunder Shocks, and it had worked. His attacks also seemed to be hurting Mewtwo more than the rest of my pokemon, so I was pretty sure he'd leveled up a fair bit from the 'shocking the whole river' experience - which just gave me more ideas on how to create the worlds strongest Pikachu. But that was for another time.
Right now, slowly but surely, the attacks were wearing Mewtwo down.
S-STOP THIS!
Mewtwo was pulled into a poke ball, which shook once, before he popped out only to take an Ember and a Buffasaur Vine Whip to the face - which hurt a lot more than a normal Vine Whip.
A-ALRIGHT, I WON'T KILL YOU, SO-
He was pulled into a second poke ball, which shook twice this time, then slapped in the face by Blissey as he broke out, then tackled by a purple rat, and then a Thunder Shock raced through him.
S-Stop it! Stop! I will-
Another two-shake poke ball, and then another trio of Water Guns to the face.
P-Please stop! We can talk-
"If you want us to stop, then just stay in the poke ball, damn it!" I interrupted, tossing another poke ball, and Mewtwo was sucked into it. For a moment, the dark cave was silent as the ball shook once.
Then twice.
Then, I felt my body tense as it shook a third time. Then, finally, after nearly half an hour of spamming attacks and throwing balls, the poke ball clicked. The cave went deathly silent, and the poke ball never broke open.
I slowly walked forward, reaching down as I grabbed the poke ball, still slightly in disbelief.
With a bunch of level 10 pokemon, I had just caught Mewtwo.
