No one expected that after Alpha Fortress was built, it would defend not against Drakkari Trolls, but against dragons.
A few days ago, Drakkari Troll scouts arrived at the mountain pass and were stunned to see the tall fortress within it. Through the Asunite Eye Stone, Gale could clearly see the stunned expressions of the Drakkari scouts and even felt proud of it.
In the world of magic, with his modern mindset, he could completely defeat the natives of Azeroth.
However, a few days later, he was shocked by the actions of the Drakkari scouts.
The Drakkari Trolls, regardless of their own safety, lured a dragon, constantly turning to attack it, even sacrificing themselves to keep the dragon's appetite whetted.
"Damn it!"
Carlos roared, "Attack those Trolls! Don't let them get close to the fortress!"
On the city wall, dozens of rangers, using Wind Power, shot down the Drakkari Trolls one by one. However, the Drakkari Trolls endured the arrow rain, determined to get as close to the city wall as possible.
The dragon landed and ate the Troll corpses one by one. Then, still not satisfied, it raised its head and looked at the Kaldorei moving back and forth on the city wall.
"Everyone, stand still!"
Gale saw this scene through the Asunite Eye Stone and immediately teleported to the city wall.
But it was still a step too late.
The dragon suddenly charged towards the city wall, covering hundreds of yards in a few strides. The tall city wall appeared tiny in front of the dragon, which leaped onto the wall in a single bound.
It opened its gaping maw and bit towards the crowd.
"Bang--"
With a loud crash, the dragon bit into the energy shield.
Gale, holding Aggramar's Shield, firmly withstood the dragon's bite. If he hadn't teleported over, dozens of Kaldorei here would have become the dragon's food.
Carlos roared in frustration, "Attack! Drive it away!"
On the high ground on both sides of the fortress, the warriors quickly pushed the ballistas, adjusting their firing angles. The thick bowstrings were pulled taut by winches, and the hoisting frames lifted and installed huge crossbow bolts.
The commander cut the ropes, and the bowstrings immediately recoiled, the powerful kinetic energy sending the crossbow bolts flying towards the dragon.
"Puff puff--"
The crossbow bolts pierced the dragon's ribs, causing it to roar in pain. In mid-air, its eyes gradually became furious, and its neck swelled with rage.
"Dragon's Breath! Everyone take cover!" Gale shouted loudly.
The Kaldorei quickly rushed under the parapet, and just as they took cover, a scorching flame surged over their heads. The high temperature curled their hair, and some slower Kaldorei were even burned by the flames.
"Dragon, get out of the fortress!"
Turann High Mage appeared on the city wall, his Arcane Shield impervious to the Dragon's Breath. He pointed his staff at the dragon, and powerful Arcane Energy erupted, knocking the dragon off the city wall.
With the Dragon's Breath gone, Gale was able to move. He took out the eternal holy grail, channeled the Arcane Energy within it, and launched his own primal energy blast at the dragon.
The Arcane Energy pierced the dragon's belly. The dragon cried out in pain, twisting its body to avoid its soft underside. Then, with a powerful push from its strong legs, it flapped its wings and flew into the sky.
Yue Nu Legion Commander also led his men onto the city wall, looking at the dragon in the sky and asking in confusion, "This dragon seems a bit strange!"
Metri explained, "The dragons we know have powerful limbs and long necks. But this dragon in front of us has short forelimbs, a very short neck, and a very large head. Clearly, this is a type of dragon we have not encountered before."
"No wonder!" Yue Nu Legion Commander said, "Although the dragons we've encountered before were powerful, they never slaughtered living beings. This dragon is inherently ferocious, quite similar to the Storm Dragons that constantly plague the Vrykul in Stormheim."
"It clearly doesn't belong to the same species as the Storm Dragons. Storm Dragons resemble the dragons we already know."
Turann High Mage looked solemnly at the dragon in the sky, "It's a Proto-Dragon, the most primitive type of dragon. They don't possess intelligence but retain the instincts of a beast."
Proto-Dragon? Everyone looked curiously at the dragon in the sky; opportunities to directly face such powerful creatures were not common.
Turann High Mage glanced at Gale; the cup in Gale's hand gave him a very familiar feeling.
Well of Eternity!
But he quickly recognized the cup. Although Gale had wrapped it in a layer of metal, its style still revealed it to be a ceramic cup specially made by the Eternal Palace to hold water from the Well of Eternity.
He figured Gale had secretly brought out water from the Well of Eternity for convenient study anytime, anywhere.
Although doing so was a bit unconventional, if Gale hadn't done it, he wouldn't have repelled that Proto-Dragon just now. Considering this, Turann High Mage decided not to report the matter to the Eternal Palace.
Turann High Mage refocused his attention on the Proto-Dragon in the sky, completely unaware that the eternal holy grail, which had run out of water, was once again gathering Arcane Energy.
Gale frowned incessantly; he wasn't very familiar with the ancient Kalimdor continent. After all, the game's background only provided a simplified map of ancient Kalimdor, not a detailed one like a game map.
But the fact that Proto-Dragons lived in the snowfield opposite the mountain pass gave Gale a bad premonition.
The injured Proto-Dragon was not resigned; it circled in the sky a few times, looking for an opportunity to continue its attack. However, the ballistas on the platform had once again adjusted their angles, keeping their bolts aimed at it. The pain in its ribs made it hesitant to fly down easily; if a crossbow bolt hit its head, it might lose its life.
The beast's intuition sensed danger, so the Proto-Dragon roared and turned to fly towards the vast snowfield.
"Oh--"
The soldiers cheered, feeling a sense of relief after escaping the dragon's maw.
The Priests began to treat the wounded. Many Kaldorei were injured by that Dragon's Breath. Minor injuries could be healed by the Priests using healing divine magic, but several Kaldorei with full-body burns had to be treated in conjunction with Regeneration Potion.
Regeneration Potion was very effective; for fatal injuries, it could bring about a rapid recovery. Gale's method of performing surgery under medical fluoroscopy was also learned by the Priests. As long as Kaldorei didn't lose their lives on the battlefield, timely treatment could save them.
Most of the wounded could return to the battlefield; only those who became disabled were sent to the rear to serve as overseers managing slaves.
Watching all the wounded being treated, Gale walked onto the platform and looked towards the distant snowfield.
He summoned an Arcane Eye and controlled it to explore into the distance.
Soon, the view provided by the Arcane Eye became a vast expanse of white. A few dozen miles further, a massive rift valley appeared ahead. Just as Gale was about to investigate the rift valley, he noticed a huge structure standing tall in the distant sky, like a sharp sword pointing to the heavens!
That was--
Gale's eyes widened, unable to believe what he was seeing.
