Chapter 68 – Your Name Completed
"Why are they fighting again?"
After reading the 52nd episode of Slam Dunk, Eriri frowned.
She had thought the story was finally back to basketball, but unexpectedly, the manga showed scenes of delinquent students fighting in school again.
And of course, Sakuragi Hanamichi was in the middle of it. That idiot never changes.
"There are way too many problem students in Shohoku High…"
Eriri muttered, flipping a few more pages. The violent scenes made her shiver.
She couldn't even imagine a real Japanese high school like this.
Toyonosaki Academy had its share of rowdy students, sure, but nobody dared cause such huge trouble.
As she read on, Lucien —noticed her eyes pause when Miyagi Ryouta and Mitsui Hisashi appeared. His heart skipped a beat.
He wanted to spoil the plot but held back.
"Eriri, don't worry. The best, most classic part of the whole story is about to start."
"Oh really?" she said, lips pursed in disbelief.
A few pages back, her eyes lingered on Miyagi again.
"This guy Miyagi, he's short, violent, just like Sakuragi… Is he even strong? What position is he, guard?"
Recently, Eriri had been studying basketball just to keep up with Slam Dunk. She had memorized the positions: power forward, center, small forward, point guard, and shooting guard.
Akagi Takenori was the center, Sakuragi was power forward, Rukawa Kaede was small forward…
So, she wanted to know Miyagi's role.
Lucien smiled. "He's point guard."
"Point guard?" Eriri looked unimpressed. "He's barely 170 cm, right?"
Lucien chuckled. "Don't underestimate him. His dribbling is sharp, he's lightning fast, and his ball control is top tier."
"Hmph. We'll see. Just don't let him drag Rukawa down like Sakuragi always does."
Lucien grinned. "No, Miyagi's far more reliable."
"Then I guess that's fine…"

By Friday, a new issue of Manga Jump was released—chapters 12 and 13 of Attack on Titan's third volume.
The story hit a peak: humanity had accepted that Eren could turn into a Titan. Despite objections, Commander boldly adopted Armin's plan—use Eren's Titan power to seal Trost's gate.
The "Battle to Retake Trost District" had begun. Humanity's first direct clash with Titans.
The brutality was staggering. Soldiers died one after another, throwing themselves at death to protect Eren.
Readers were shaken to the core.
Online, forums exploded with heated debate. Social networks filled with theories, shock, and endless anticipation. Some readers even wrote directly to the Jump editorial office begging for faster serialization.
But publishing two chapters per week was already extraordinary. The editors could only ignore such demands.
---
Inside the Manga Jump editorial department, Editor-in-Chief Yuto Funao sat with his phone, testing the new online manga app developed by Shueisha's digital division.
With print sales declining year by year, he knew the future was digital. This app would let more manga series run simultaneously, giving fresh authors like Whale a chance.
Funao had originally planned to wait a year or two before launch, but after watching Slam Dunk's explosive online success, he decided to accelerate.
What he lacked now was a key title that could headline the platform.
---
Meanwhile, Lucien's panel flashed:
[Host: Lucien D. Blackthorn]
[Remaining Lifespan: 89 days]
[Health Value: 30/100 – You may create manga for 2 hours a day. Exceeding this limit by 1 minute deducts 1 day of life.]
From Attack on Titan's third volume and Slam Dunk's latest chapters, his lifespan had grown to 89 days.
In just months, he had clawed half a year from death's hands—by sheer force of will and his manga.
Ancient legends spoke of the Monkey King tearing pages from the Book of Life and Death. Now, Lucien was doing the same with pen and ink.
But though his life was stable, his body was still frail. His true goal now wasn't just survival—it was recovery.
Only with strength could he keep going.
---
That night, he completed the final chapter of Your Name.
When Eriri visited after school, she immediately demanded, "Where are Slam Dunk chapters 61 and 62? The fight in the gym—how do they get out of it?!"
Lucien laughed. "Didn't draw them. I was finishing something else."
Her face fell. She stomped her foot. "You're hopeless!"
But then he lifted a sketchbook, eyes glinting. "But I did finish Your Name. Want to see?"
Eriri's eyes flickered. For a moment, she looked reluctant—remembering those strange dreams she'd had lately of swapping bodies with Lucien. Dreams that… well, she couldn't write down even if she wanted to.
But she couldn't resist. "Who's scared? Give it here!"
She snatched the sketchbook and turned her back to him.
Minutes passed. Then ten. Then twenty.
When she finally closed it, she was silent.
Lucien noticed her eyes were damp.
"Well?" he asked softly.
"…It's beautiful. I love it." Her voice trembled.
The story had pierced her heart.
"How did you come up with this?" she whispered.
Lucien thought a moment, then said, "I used to think death was the cruelest thing in the world. But I realized there's something worse—forgetting the one you love while you're still alive."
Eriri froze. Those words cut deep. She looked at him differently, realizing—this was someone who had truly faced death.
She admired him more than ever.
"Will you publish it online?" she asked.
Lucien shook his head. "No. I'll ask Ms. Iida. Maybe we can put it in Manga Jump."
"Definitely! This is as good as Attack on Titan! Jump won't turn it down!"
She was firm, filled with conviction.
---
The next day, Editor Iida Ayano arrived. She read Your Name carefully—and was shaken just like Eriri.
"Lucien, this is incredible. If you want it published, I'll arrange everything."
Lucien hesitated. Then he asked, "Do you know Director Arata Shinkawa?"
Ayano blinked. "The film director?"
Lucien nodded.
Arata Shinkawa—the acclaimed Japanese animation director, known for breathtaking visuals and emotional storytelling.
Looking again at the manuscript, Ayano realized—Your Name's tone was a perfect fit for his style.
"You're not saying…" she muttered.
Lucien smiled. "That's right. I want Your Name adapted into his animated film."
Ayano gasped. Normally, she would laugh at such ambition from a newcomer. But after reading Your Name, she knew—this was no ordinary work.
"I can't reach him directly," she admitted. "But Editor Funao knows him well. I'll bring this to him."
"Thank you," Lucien said sincerely.
Ayano nodded. "But keep your expectations realistic. Even if Shinkawa doesn't take it, someone else will. This deserves the big screen."
---
Once she left, Lucien turned back to Slam Dunk.
Volume 8—the Mitsui arc.
The fallen ace, the wounded knee, the delinquent days… and finally, those immortal words:
"Coach, I want to play basketball…"
Lucien's chest tightened as he drew. Mitsui Hisashi wasn't just a character—he was youth itself.
Not basketball. Not winning. But the pain, the loss, the hope, the tears.
That was what Slam Dunk was really about.
And he knew—when readers saw Mitsui's return, the world would weep with him.
