Chapter 2 - CHAPTER TWO: FELINE..

Kai sat at the edge of a tranquil river, surrounded by a breathtaking tapestry of nature's beauty. Vibrant flowers in shades of crimson, violet, and gold bloomed abundantly along the banks, their petals swaying gently in the breeze.

Tall, ancient trees with twisting branches stretched skyward, their leaves whispering secrets as they rustled softly. The sunlight filtered through the canopy, casting dappled patterns on the ground and illuminating the shimmering surface of the water.

He reclined atop a smooth, moss-covered rock, tossing small stones lazily into the river. Each stone skipped across the surface, creating tiny splashes that echoed softly like delicate percussion.

His purple hair caught the shimmering rays of the sun, glowing with an almost ethereal light as he watched the birds soar gracefully overhead, their wings cutting through the air with effortless elegance.

Beside him, a girl sat cross-legged on a patch of grass, her presence as striking as the scenery itself.

Long, black silk hair cascaded down her back, shimmering like liquid night. Her eyes were sharp and bright, with a mischievous glint that hinted at mischief and wisdom beyond her years. She wore a flowing robe of deep emerald green, embroidered with silver thread in intricate swirling patterns.

The fabric was light and elegant, flowing like water with every movement, and it complemented her poised yet calm demeanor.

Her fangs, sharp and perfectly aligned, flashed briefly as she smiled at Kai—an expression that was both enchanting and slightly predatory.

She folded her arms, leaning slightly back as she watched him toss stones.

"You know," she said softly, her voice smooth but tinged with concern, "the Demon Lord just wants what's best for you..." She sighed, a gentle sound that carried a hint of frustration. "But you're not really seeing that, are you?"

She reached out and threw a small stone into the river, and in response, a splash of water spattered on her face, making her giggle. She brushed her wet hair back and chuckled.

Kai let out a long, exasperated sigh, rubbing the back of his neck. "I know," he muttered, voice low but tinged with frustration. "That Old man, always bugging me about inheriting the throne..." His gaze drifted across the flowing water, a flicker of annoyance crossing his face.

"Why can't Leo do it? He's the oldest, isn't he?"

He paused, crossing his legs and leaning back on his hands, gazing at the sky.

"And Liora... isn't my brother supposed to be the greatest? The old man always looks proud when he's around him." His tone grew more introspective, yet laced with sarcasm. "Yeah, everything's just so... perfect."

Liora tilted her head, a teasing smile curling her lips.

"Yeah, but you do know Leo isn't exactly a demon, right? He's a creature of the night—shadow and mist, not a demon with a throne to inherit." Her eyes sparkled mischievously. "He can't exactly sit on a throne if he's busy slipping through cracks in reality."

Kai sighed again, slumping back further.

"Great. So I'm stuck in this mess, just waiting for my turn while Leo's out there probably leaving his best life. And I—" he paused dramatically, then grinned—"I'm just here, throwing rocks like some lazy shark in a koi pond."

Liora burst into giggles, covering her mouth with her hand. "You're hopeless," she said, shaking her head. "But I guess it's kind of fun watching you pretend you don't care."

Kai raised an eyebrow, smirking.

"Hey, I care. I swear. I just... don't want to inherit the throne and end up with a boring crown and a bunch of stuffy old demons telling me what to do. I'd rather be out here, making waves—literally—and avoiding all that royal mess."

Liora chuckled again, leaning back on her hands.

"Well, if you ever want to run away and become a river spirit, I'm in. Just promise you'll take me along. No more throne talk."

Kai grinned mischievously. "Deal. But only if I get to boss you around sometimes."

-------------

The night was cool and crisp, the air tinged with a gentle chill that made the skin prickle. Overhead, the full moon hung like a silver lantern, casting a pale glow across the land.

Its light bathed everything in an eerie, magical hue—shadows danced across the walls, trees shimmered with a ghostly sheen, and the river below reflected the moon's luminous face like a mirror of the heavens.

Stars twinkled faintly, adding to the quiet majesty of the scene, while a soft breeze carried the scent of night-blooming flowers and distant pine.

In his dimly lit room, Kai's room, Kai stood by the window, gazing up at the moon, lost in thought. Suddenly, a loud knock shattered the silence—a firm, deliberate rap that echoed through the chamber.

"Come in," Kai muttered without turning around, already knowing who it was. His brother.

The door swung open, revealing Leo—his tall, confident figure striding in with effortless grace. His brown, tousled hair looked like he'd just rolled out of bed, yet somehow, it suited him perfectly—like a wolf in a fairy tale.

His face was smooth, handsome, with sharp features that made him look like he belonged on a statue.

But what truly set him apart were the wolf ears peeking out from his hair and the sleek, half-wolf tail swaying lazily behind him, betraying his mixed heritage.

Leo's confident stride was accompanied by a playful smirk, and he didn't bother hiding his amusement as he casually walked in.

With a swift, teasing motion, he playfully tapped Kai's head.

"Oi, what are you doing here, little brother?" Leo said with a grin, his voice smooth but edged with mischief.

Kai rolled his eyes and sighed, running a hand through his messy hair. "What, did you come to tell me I'm unworthy of the throne again? Or just to remind me how much I'm suffocating in this royal cage?"

Leo's smirk widened as he hopped onto one of Kai's shelves, his tail flicking lazily.

"Well, I was actually coming to see if you're ready to face the consequences of your 'I don't want the throne' speech. You know—your favorite hobby."

Kai snorted and crossed his arms. "Yeah… I'd love to see that. Besides, I'm just waiting for the day I can run away to join the human world—at least there, I'd have a chance to be the star, not just the prince of misfit toys."

Leo leaned against the shelf, his wolf ears twitching as he looked at Kai with mock seriousness. "You do realize you're the only prince I know who'd rather chase birds and throw stones than sit on a throne?"

Kai ran a hand through his hair again, sighing dramatically. "I don't want to be king. I want to be free. This whole royal thing? It's like trying to breathe underwater—claustrophobic and full of fish that bite."

Leo hopped down, his tail flicking with exaggerated flair. "Well, then, what's the plan, oh great rebel? Are we storming the castle? Or just sneaking out for some moonlit chaos?, you know it's a full moon dear"

Kai shot him a smirk. "Maybe I'll run away and become something else entirely?"

Leo chuckled, patting his brother's shoulder with a grin.

"Come on, little bro. Let's go find out what's really bugging you. Maybe the moon will give you some wisdom—or at least a good laugh."

Kai watched him leave with an eye roll so epic it could have powered a small village.

"Yeah, sure. Because what I need right now is a wolf with a feline problem trying to be king of the chaos."

As Leo strutted out, tail swaying like a flag of rebellion, Kai shook his head, muttering, "One day, I'll run away so far even the stars won't find me."
