The Blue Velocidromes that had rushed into the crowd had already begun their slaughter. In a mere dozen seconds, two people were unfortunately pounced upon, their throats torn open and their chests ripped apart, falling into pools of blood.
Some people, enraged by the tragic deaths of their companions, wildly swung their short swords at the two Blue Velocidromes.
But even with their full strength, the light, thin, and short swords could only leave a few insignificant cuts on the Blue Velocidromes' bodies.
And a Blue Velocidrome only needed to turn casually, and its strong, long tail, as thick as an adult's thigh, could easily sweep the surrounding people to the ground.
There were also a few who had completely lost their minds, rushing to the side of the truck in a panic, climbing with their hands and feet, only wanting to escape this bloody slaughterhouse as quickly as possible.
However, the Blue Velocidrome King clearly did not want its prey to escape so easily.
It casually picked up a fleeing person from the truck, tossed them to the ground, and did not continue to attack, but merely looked down at the nearly collapsed people, who were stumbling around like headless flies.
Paine, almost in despair, led several companions to besiege a Blue Velocidrome.
Under the successive attacks, they did manage to inflict a few bleeding wounds on this Blue Velocidrome, but seeing its lively appearance, no one believed that the final victory would belong to the humans.
The Blue Velocidrome King had not yet made its move.
However, Paine still hadn't considered giving up. He absolutely could not die here, and even more so, he could not let Hayata die here!
Unfortunately, even the strongest will could not bridge the gap in absolute strength.
Paine, who narrowly dodged a pounce but was hit in the head by a tail sweep, felt as if his head had been struck by a blacksmith's hammer. His vision went black, and he collapsed, unconscious.
Seeing an opportunity, the Blue Velocidrome ignored the two frantically attacking caravan members behind it, opened its mouth full of sharp teeth, and bit towards his vital throat.
But just then, a slender and delicate figure rushed out and stood in front of Paine.
Hayata had emerged from the hidden pile of goods at some point.
Her hands tightly gripped a short sword that had fallen to the ground.
Despite trembling with fear, her wide eyes still stubbornly stared at the Blue Velocidrome's bloody claws and fangs.
Memories of her parents had faded.
Having depended on each other for over ten years, her uncle Paine, who had poured everything into her, had long since replaced her parents in her memory, becoming her most important, and last, relative.
"Cannot run, cannot run, otherwise Uncle will die," Hayata repeatedly warned herself in her heart, only in this way could she barely suppress the desire to scream and run away.
The Blue Velocidrome tilted its head, examining the uninvited guest in front of it. Its not-so-developed brain couldn't understand why this obviously weaker human cub dared to stand in front of it.
The beast's instincts prevented it from wasting too much time pondering things it couldn't understand. Since there was no threat, then attack!
"Hayata! Run!" Behind the Blue Velocidrome, the caravan members who were constantly trying to attack shouted loudly.
No one wanted this little girl, who had brought them countless joys, to die in the monster's mouth like this.
The Blue Velocidrome swung its long tail, sweeping away the incredibly annoying flies behind it, then opened its mouth wide and lunged forward to bite.
Facing the incoming gaping maw, Hayata's light green pupils constricted.
She suddenly leaped to the side, avoiding the Blue Velocidrome's pounce, while raising the short sword in her hand, and with all her strength, struck the Blue Velocidrome's back of the neck.
"Gah-ow!"
The Blue Velocidrome, attacked in a vital spot, shrieked.
Unfortunately, with the girl's weak strength, this direct hit to a vital spot only barely left a not-serious wound on the Blue Velocidrome's back of the neck.
Enraged by this, the Blue Velocidrome quickly turned around. It was going to tear the human cub in front of it to shreds!
Hayata lamented her weakness, but still bit her lip, holding the sword with both hands, ready to meet the Blue Velocidrome's next wave of attack.
If one sword wasn't enough, she would strike a few more, until it fell!
Just as Hayata resolved to forget her fear and fight to the death, a strange, yet extremely penetrating horn sound came.
"Doo-woo, doo-woo, doo-woo~"
The moment the special sound wave rang out, it immediately attracted the attention of the Blue Velocidromes.
The gazes of many caravan members also turned towards the direction from which the horn sound came.
To everyone's surprise, standing on top of a certain truck and blowing the horn was actually an Ailu Cat clad in armor?
As the attention of both the crowd and the monsters was drawn to the horn-playing Ailu Cat.
A fully armed figure, wielding a steel ferocious blade, rushed into the array of trucks, and in the blink of an eye, arrived beside the Blue Velocidrome opposite Hayata.
He swung his Great Sword with the force of his charge, the hook-claw-shaped blade tearing through the air, emitting a wailing ghost-like howl.
Amidst the sound of rushing wind, the Blue Velocidrome's legs were severed at the root by the horizontal slash of the Great Sword.
The Blue Velocidrome, having lost its legs and fallen to the ground, did not have time to wail before the monstrously shaped Great Sword cut a clever arc and descended again from top to bottom.
Its head, along with its neck and a small part of its body, was chopped open by the Great Sword's merciless vertical slash.
Neither the tough scales, thick horny skin, nor muscles and bones caused even the slightest obstruction to those hook-claw-shaped blades.
The hunter pulled out his Great Sword, and warm, foul-smelling monster blood splattered everywhere, staining Hayata's pearl-white skirt, with a few drops even splashing onto her stunned little face.
The hunter wielding the Great Sword glanced at her. When his gaze swept over the bloody short sword in the girl's hand, a hint of surprise flashed in the hunter's eyes.
But he said nothing more, instead seizing the time to rush towards another Blue Velocidrome not far away.
The Blue Velocidrome King, enraged by the death of its companion, roared and prepared to pounce on the hunter, but was struck on the forehead by the Hunting Cat, who had put away its horn and raised its cat pickaxe.
It didn't hurt much, but it was extremely insulting, and the Blue Velocidrome King's hatred instantly shifted.
The hunter took the opportunity to swiftly dispatch the second Blue Velocidrome, then turned to the Blue Velocidrome King, rescuing the Airou Cat who was struggling under the Blue Velocidrome King's continuous attacks.
While swinging his Great Sword and maneuvering with the Blue Velocidrome King, he shouted, "Quickly move the injured onto the trucks and evacuate southeast.
Abandon the heavy cargo; there are other Velociprey wandering in this area! Zhu Pa, escort them for a while until they leave the danger zone, hurry!"
The stunned caravan members snapped out of it, following the hunter's instructions and acting with unprecedented efficiency.
The cargo they had meticulously cared for in the past was now entirely abandoned from the trucks. In their eyes, having just been rescued from the despair of death, no cargo was more important than life.
As the caravan began to retreat, the young hunter also launched a more proactive offensive.
He had to firmly keep the Blue Velocidrome King in place; once this fellow turned to attack the caravan, those merchants would surely suffer heavy casualties.
No one noticed.
Among the hastily departing caravan, a pair of bright eyes remained fixed on the back of the figure wielding a giant blade, battling the terrifying monster head-on without losing an inch of ground.
A strong desire surged within Hayata's heart.
--She wanted power.
The power to protect those she cherished when facing monsters.
