Chapter 23 - The Monster Appears

People came and went at the hospital.

Ethan's request to visit Sarah was directly rejected by the Nurse.

The reason was that Sarah was in isolation, and only her relatives could visit.

This stumped him. Sarah was an orphan; who knew where her relatives were.

He searched for her, room by room, in the hospital.

But the hospital was too big; he searched from afternoon until evening and still hadn't explored the entire hospital.

"Are you Mr. Ethan Canrick? I'm your fan. Is there anything interesting happening at our hospital?"

Ethan, searching for Sarah, turned and bumped into a Doctor, who looked very surprised.

It was quite a coincidence that a big reporter like Ethan would appear before him.

At this moment, Ethan was somewhat anxious.

"Yes, there is indeed a news story, but I need to find a girl named Sarah. Can you tell me where she is? The front desk Nurse said she was isolated."

The Doctor was very happy, not expecting to be able to help his idol. He nodded and said, "Follow me, Mr. Ethan."

He followed the Doctor through various corridors until they reached Sarah's ward.

It turned out that Sarah was in a special monitoring ward, a place for treating mental illnesses.

Thanking the Doctor, he pushed the door open and entered.

"Hello, Miss Sarah! You look a bit haggard. Can you tell me what's wrong?"

Sarah, on the hospital bed, was curled up, hugging her knees. She glanced at Ethan, who had entered, but didn't speak.

"Perhaps we have some common ground, like the unknown creature that's been circulating recently?"

Ethan continued speaking.

He could tell that Sarah was suffering greatly from nightmares, and the dragon-shaped tattoo on her shoulder made him directly conclude that the girl in front of him was the person he was looking for.

Because her tattoo was exactly like his necklace.

"That's not some unknown creature; its name is Bragi. It's looking for me."

Sarah buried her face in her arms and said in a muffled voice.

She told Ethan everything that had happened to her recently. Ever since she saw the report about the unknown creature that day, she had been restless.

The nightmares she'd had since childhood became a daily occurrence. Every time she fell asleep, she would see herself being swallowed whole by Bragi.

She had told her friends about this, but they didn't believe her, thinking she was just anxious.

"I believe you. You are the reincarnation of the Dragon Pearl carrier from five hundred years ago, and I am the warrior guarding you."

Ethan looked at Sarah sincerely, his words earnest.

Seeing that someone finally understood her, Sarah burst into tears.

What she said was true, yet the Doctors outside treated her like a madwoman. Anyone would feel bad about that.

Comforting Sarah, Ethan explained the whole story to her.

On the other side,

The zookeeper was tied to a chair, struggling constantly.

"Alright, stop struggling. You can't get out of these ropes, and besides, the orderly standing next to you isn't a pushover either."

A psychiatrist looked at his medical record, took a sip of coffee, and said softly.

"There's no giant python in the World like you described. It seems you're quite ill."

The zookeeper continued to struggle, shouting angrily.

"Let me go! I'm not sick! Everything I said is true! I personally saw a giant python swallow five elephants at the zoo!"

Looking at the zookeeper twisting in the chair, trying to break free.

The psychiatrist looked up and gestured for the orderly to tie him tighter. This guy seemed to have violent tendencies.

Feeling the ropes on him tighten further, the zookeeper gave up resisting. He knew that anyone who hadn't seen that giant python would find it hard to believe his words.

Just then, he saw the giant python from the zoo.

"I think you can look back. The giant python is at the hospital right now."

The Doctor felt helpless with the zookeeper. Following his instructions, he looked back out the window.

Hmm, it was brightly lit outside and very beautiful. There was no giant python anywhere.

The zookeeper felt extremely distraught. It turned out that the python had left just as the Doctor turned his head.

The giant python, no, Bragi, was coiled around the entire St. George Hospital building, searching through window after window for Sarah's trace.

The hospital walls were scraped and chipped by its scales.

"Quick, get out of here, take the elevator and leave this place."

The Doctor who had earlier led Ethan to Sarah's ward suddenly pushed open the door and shouted, not knowing what had happened.

Seeing the Doctor's panicked face, the two quickly got up and followed the Doctor's instructions to escape the place.

Meanwhile, the Doctor's form changed, transforming into a kind-faced old man who watched them leave.

Bragi, outside the hospital, sensed the aura of the Dragon Pearl, smashed through a window, and plunged into the ward.

Its massive body shook the entire building. Bragi moved through the building, searching for traces of the Dragon Pearl.

In an instant, St. George Hospital was riddled with holes by Bragi's destruction.

Ethan and Sarah escaped to the underground parking lot.

Bruce had been in the car all afternoon. At this moment, he was eating a hot dog and listening to music in the car.

Feeling someone open the car door, he took off his headphones and looked back. It was Ethan.

"What took you so long?"

Ethan roughly interrupted him, shouting:

"Drive fast! Go! Go! Go!"

Just then, Bragi caught up, savagely breaking through the ground to enter the underground parking lot.

Today, it was determined to get the Dragon Pearl.

Looking at the giant python behind them, Bruce stopped asking questions.

He floored the accelerator, and the car roared out of the underground parking lot, directly breaking through the automatic barrier at the parking lot entrance.

Bragi roared, moving forward at a furious pace on the ground; nothing could stop its movement.

"Is this the protagonist from that story, the evil python Bragi?

I knew it was big, but why didn't you tell me it was big enough to swallow a bus whole?"

Bruce had the accelerator pressed to the floor. Looking at the unstoppable Bragi in the rearview mirror, he was covered in cold sweat, able only to relieve his fear by talking.

Using several complex intersections, they managed to temporarily shake off Bragi.

But Bruce didn't dare to slow down and kept the accelerator pressed, fleeing.

Bang.

A White-haired old man suddenly appeared and was knocked to the ground by Bruce.

"Did I hit someone? What do I do? I killed someone?"

Bruce, already on edge, became even more distraught.

Ethan found the old man familiar and recalled his previous experiences.

"No, I saw this man at Jack's shop. He's with Bragi; he's the leader of the monster army."

Jack was the owner of the antique shop, his Master before his reincarnation.

The White-haired old man who was knocked down changed his appearance. His body turned into black armor. He stood up, twisted his neck, and punched the car.

A large dent appeared on the car's front hood.

Bruce was terrified. He picked up the handgun he kept in the car for self-defense and fired repeatedly at the monster leader, emptying the gun's bullets.

As Bruce fired, the monster leader's hand transformed into a shield, blocking all the bullets, which sparked as they hit the shield.

Seeing that Bruce's gun was out of bullets, the monster leader conjured a sharp blade, preparing to kill the fat black man.

Ethan found a wooden board from somewhere and smashed it onto the monster leader's shoulder.

Crack~

The wooden board broke instantly, and the monster leader, unharmed, turned to look at him.

Bruce took advantage of the monster leader's distraction, snatching the blade from his hand, but the monster leader laughed.

The blade kept disappearing, until only a hilt was left spinning in Bruce's hand.

The three were instantly thrown into disarray.

Just as the monster leader was about to reach out and grab Sarah, a speeding car hit him again, sending him flying.

The three quickly got into the car. Ethan said in an anxious tone, "Help us, we're being chased."

The driver was a female driver. She nodded, told them to fasten their seatbelts, and sped down the highway with her foot on the accelerator.
