Chapter 49 - BENEATH THE MASK OF STRENGTH

[Name: Ethan Sylvester]l

[Aspect: Space and Time]

[Rank: Awakened — Level 10 Exp 600/20000]

[Attributes: Strength 80, Agility 70, Stamina 70, Speed 75, Mana 70]

Ethan looked at his real attributes. "Well, let's get weak," he chuckled. He knew too well that his stats, although not the full 100 mark, could still rival an early Ascended fairly. The system said he was at level 10 and to be an Ascended he had to reach level 20.

"This system is just too amazing. I wonder how strong that old fool was when he was young," Ethan said, thinking about the old immortal. He could remember he beat Emperor Ming a Divine being with planet-shattering powers.

Bang.

Machines that moved like octopi rushed toward Ethan with speed. To Ethan they were too slow, but he had to conceal fifty percent of his strength. All in all he wanted his strength to read as middle-stage Awakened which is about 50 attributes (like 50 in strength, stamina, agility and speed).

About five rushed at him.

Controlling his strength, Ethan moved with ease.

BANG BANG BANG.

He used minimal strength to hit the machines. After finishing off the first five, more came in but this time their speed increased.

"Eh, what are they getting at?" Ethan thought as he rushed at ten machines.

Bang bang bang.

Beating the ten machines meant his speed and strength were at about 20 attributes.

"Three more to go and I am done," Ethan said.

More and more came in. After twenty-five machines, he pretended to miss and got hit by a machine.

Lying on the ground like he was beat, he looked up and saw a camera. "Eh, jackasses, you won't know a thing," Ethan chuckled and stood up. The machines returned to normal as a new set came in. These ones were throwing what looked like sharp sticks at Ethan.

Moving flawlessly, Ethan dodged the sticks. When one hit the ground Ethan saw it had a sharp edge. "WTF," he cursed inwardly.

After a few throws Ethan realized that this was a test for agility and stamina.

Finishing the test, Ethan exited the test room.

"Here is your pass, Mr. Ethan. Congratulations you passed the entrance exam. All you have to do now is wait for the main exam," the receptionist smiled as she handed him a different card. This one had a slick design and his face on it. Next to it was his name and aspect ranking together with his attributes.

(Name: Ethan Sylvester)

(Aspect: Rank B)

(Attributes: Strength 52, Agility 55, Stamina 51, Speed 57)

(Entrance exam status: Pass)

"Eh, not bad," Ethan clicked his tongue. Ethan looked around but couldn't find Lynx. Relaxing his mind, he continued forward to the next section. The Omega ship is divided into three sections. Section 1 for the entrance exam. Section 2 is applicants' wards where applicants stay temporarily. Section 3 is where the military officials are at.

Ethan went to Section 2 through the high-tech elevator. The AI in the elevator asked for his whereabouts so he told it to take him to Section 2.

Walking out of the elevator he saw the entrance floor was filled with people about 500. On the sides of the wall Ethan could see mini-shops powered and manned by robots and AI assistants.

"Well, finding Freddy and Gloria will be tough," Ethan said. Checking his account balance Ethan saw a six-figure floating in the air: 6 million Ace Coins. If he told a regular person he was broke, one might wonder what he was doing with his life.

Walking to a mini-market and ordering a full course meal, Ethan munched and didn't care about the eyes staring at him. Ethan knew all these people had passed the entrance exam so he didn't care. He just silently ate his steak without caring for the world.

A few minutes later a boy Ethan's age sat at his table. He had freckles and Ethan could see the smug on his face. Ethan knew he wasn't alone; ever since he entered he could see people looking suspiciously at him.

"Who the hell are you?" Ethan asked with a straight face.

"I am Cedric," he said.

"And what do you want?" Ethan said, drinking his juice.

"Well, I just want to sit here. Any complaints?" Cedric said.

"Well I could have forgiven you but your ruddy attitude you didn't ask for permission," Ethan said calmly.

Then slowly Cedric pulled out his card which showed an A rank for his aspect. "Hmm, nice hair you've got there," Ethan continued to talk.

"Well, let's cut to the chase. I have run out of funds and I want you to give me everything you have," Cedric said.

"Excuse me, are you robbing me?" Ethan looked surprised.

"Yes I am. You might think the officials will step in, but you are wrong. Once we are in the main exam I will find you and I will kill you," Cedric said.

"Eh, well there is a mistake there , I am the one to do the threatening, not you," Ethan said as his blue eyes glinted.

[You have activated ]

[The target feels fear of you.]

"Now look at me calmly," Ethan stared deep into Cedric's eyes. Cedric was terrified and couldn't move — his body wasn't listening. How did he pick this demon as his target? He thought this guy was a rich, weak brat.

"Now listen to me carefully. You will open your account now and send me every last Ace Coin you have there. And if you don't," Ethan said calmly, "in the main exam I will find you and I will gut you. I will make sure you do not die, because I want you to see your live kidney and liver. And the last thing you see is me crushing your greedy heart with my bare hands." Ethan calmly threatened.

"Okay, okay, please forgive me! I have 10 million Ace Coins you can have it all!" Cedric was terrified. He immediately transferred the money and ran away from the mini-shop. When he met his gang he shook his head wildly and ran in the opposite direction.

"Well, that is money made too easy," Ethan chuckled as he drank his cola.

When Ethan was done he bought a few clothes from another mini-store. In total he only spent a million.

"Dear Cadets congratulations on passing the entrance exam. Out of 5,000 applicants, only 1,500 made it," the female voice said again. This time everyone was quiet.

"The main exam will commence in the next 24 hours. You have the time to rest and prepare well for the Three Great Trials," the voice continued. "I wish you good luck."

"What are the Three Great Trials? What are they?" someone asked.

"I heard it's the most dangerous trials any Awakened has to face," another guy said.

"I heard that those who came out of the Three Great Trials never spoke about it," another person said.

"Did they just call us Cadets?"

"Yeah. If you fail the Three Great Trials you will be directly sent to another academy without going through any exams."

"So are you saying the Three Great Trials are a whole different exam?"

"Yh."

"Damn, I don't want to fail. Failing means I won't be a high-ranking officer."

"Hmmm, interesting," Ethan smiled as he passed through the crowd. He could hear different gossips. "Very well then one step at a time," he chuckled. "Now I have got to message Gloria and Freddy," Ethan said.
