Until Wanda appeared behind him, leaning close to whisper in his ear:
"Chen Xi, I don't know why, but suddenly demons have appeared all over the country. They look incredibly ferocious, rivaling even the ogres. They keep attacking mutants and ordinary humans, and sometimes several mutants can't even take down a single demon—"
Chen Xi quickly followed Wanda after hearing this.
It was going to be an extremely difficult battle.
Unlike Apocalypse, the enemy's numbers were enormous—and they kept increasing relentlessly. Their total numbers far exceeded the sum of humans and mutants on Earth.
These evil beings were led by Loki.
They continuously reinforced Loki's army, and his forces grew stronger. Many mutants, unable to endure, directly joined the forces of evil.
Chen Xi didn't find this situation amusing; he struggled hard to fight alongside them.
The world was becoming chaotic—and increasingly so.
"God is truly cruel to me," Chen Xi muttered slowly, staring at the boundless darkness in the sky during a rare moment of rest.
As time passed, the situation did not stabilize.
Chen Xi was certain: if he didn't come up with a plan soon, all ordinary humans would be wiped out, leaving only the more powerful mutants who had a slightly better chance of survival.
But he was already prepared; when things got worse, his plans could be executed.
Chen Xi quietly observed everything, waiting for certain events to unfold.
Wanda was aware of Chen Xi's plan; among the women around him, she was the only one who knew.
She asked, "When exactly should the timing be? When is the worst moment?"
"When Loki is defeated—or even killed—by Thor, that leaderless chaos is the absolute worst moment," Chen Xi explained.
"Before, I sensed that you wanted to deal with Loki personally. Why did you let Thor handle it in the end?"
"It doesn't have to be Thor himself—anyone from Asgard near him is enough," Chen Xi replied.
If there's an optimal plan, why wait for the worst-case scenario?
Chen Xi's presence and Asgard's existence held different weight in Thor's mind. Just as his woman's life was far more important than anyone else's in the world.
"I understand," Wanda said. She seemed to grasp some of it, though many parts remained unclear. She furrowed her brows briefly, then relaxed them.
Some things she didn't understand fully, but after listening carefully and reflecting on Chen Xi's words, she might eventually comprehend them.
Chen Xi and Wanda waited patiently—and soon, the moment arrived.
When Thor appeared, missing an eye, Wanda stood beside Chen Xi, astonished.
Thor had lost an eye—an incredible and almost unbelievable sight.
"You look quite miserable. What happened?" Chen Xi asked, his expression calm, though his words carried mild impatience.
Thor looked regretful.
"I am like this because of my pride and my cowardice," he said.
Most of Asgard had perished.
Though they managed to defeat Loki and his forces, the cost was tremendous.
Moreover, with Loki's death, the demons, ogres, and Death Soldiers attacking the human world became leaderless, chaotic, and rampant, causing even greater destruction.
Thor felt deep remorse. If he had contained or killed Loki earlier, this chaos might never have occurred.
He blamed himself entirely, feeling overwhelming guilt and impending death.
"So you came to me just to say this—or is there something else you want?" Chen Xi's tone remained calm but carried clear impatience.
Thor hesitated, knowing any delay endangered human lives further. Finally, he spoke:
"I want your help."
"Our situation is already terrible," he added.
Before Chen Xi could respond, Wanda frowned. She thought Thor audacious—how could he naturally ask Chen Xi for help? If this had been her, she would have felt embarrassed. Perhaps men—or Asgardian gods—just have thicker skin.
"I know my request may be excessive, but I can't think of anyone else to ask," Thor admitted.
The All-Father had entrusted Asgard's fate to him, yet he failed to lead his people to prosperity and dragged them into this situation.
"If I ever see the All-Father again, in any world, I will be ashamed," Thor thought. He sensed his death approaching soon.
"Enough talk. Tell me what you want me to do," Chen Xi said.
Thor knew he had wasted time beating around the bush, but he had been hesitant because his request was audacious.
"I want you to help me manage Asgard," he said earnestly.
"Hand Asgard over to a human?" Wanda couldn't believe her ears. The king of Asgard was out of his mind?
To counter Loki, Thor had sacrificed one of his eyes to gain the wisdom of the Well of Urd.
