Chapter 181 - Chapter 181 Fear of My Divine Light

"Black day vast, white night bright.

Evil cult and wicked party, fear my divine light.

Frightful fire cremation, those who defy me shall perish.

Fear as the source, endless glory…" A low voice echoed in Hecter's mind, carrying an eerie and unfathomable power. This passage seemed to transcend time and space, connecting to a mysterious entity countless light-years away.

At this moment, on a deserted planet at the edge of Sector 2814 of the universe, a great battle was unfolding.

On one side was the Green Lantern Corps, led by Sinestro, and on the other was a massive, yellow-glowing, insect-like creature with multiple limbs and a segmented body.

This was Parallax, the embodiment of the yellow fear energy from the emotional spectrum, and also the archenemy of the Green Lantern Corps.

Ever since the news of Abin Sur's death reached Oa, Sinestro began investigating, determined to find the murderer of his close friend. During this time, he repeatedly violated the rules set by the Guardians, but ultimately uncovered a shocking truth buried in history.

The Green Lantern Corps had a weakness: their superpowers were ineffective against yellow objects, and their power was greatly diminished when facing yellow light. This weakness was known as the Yellow Impurity.

Every Green Lantern had the Yellow Impurity, but that wasn't entirely true.

The so-called Yellow Impurity was caused by Parallax, the physical embodiment of the yellow fear energy from the seven emotional spectrums.

Billions of years ago, the Green Lantern Corps and Parallax, who sought to devour the universe, engaged in a great war. After countless sacrifices, they finally achieved victory. To prevent Parallax's revival, the Green Lanterns at the time split Parallax's essence into two parts, imprisoning them separately in the Central Power Batteries of two planets, with Oa being one of them.

The Green Lantern Corps possessed the Yellow Impurity because Parallax's energy had permeated the Central Power Battery, infecting every Green Lantern who drew energy from it with this strange affliction.

When the news spread, large-scale protests erupted on Oa. As the leader of the Green Lantern Corps, Sinestro had a huge argument with the Guardians, then led hundreds of fearless warriors to Sector 2814, intending to eliminate Parallax, who had escaped its prison.

This battle had been ongoing for three Earth days, and the resulting shockwaves had almost destroyed half the planet.

Parallax's immense power left a deep impression on the Green Lantern Corps. To achieve victory, Sinestro had to change his original plan, resorting to a war of attrition. Soldiers constantly left and joined, and under the continuous assault of hundreds of Green Lantern soldiers, Parallax was finally suppressed.

Sinestro and a dozen core members of the Corps used their power rings to create a will-powered cage, preventing Parallax from absorbing fear energy. Other soldiers manifested various weapons to bombard it, continuously weakening Parallax's energy.

The Parallax demon, once as large as half a city, was reduced to the size of a husky under the relentless bombardment of the Green Lantern Corps. Its energy was severely depleted, and it could no longer break free from the will-powered cage imposed upon it.

Parallax was the embodiment of yellow fear energy, representing the origin of the universe, and belonged to the forces of nature, thus it could not die. However, once it was beaten back to its primitive form, it would take a very long time to re-coalesce its body.

It didn't want to disappear, nor did it want to be submerged in glowing green liquid for billions of years. Helplessly, reality was cruel; the Green Lantern Corps had sealed off all exits, giving it no chance to escape.

Parallax roared in anger, struggling desperately.

Its body shrank bit by bit, from a husky to a corgi, and then from a corgi to a Chihuahua. Just as it was about to return to its primitive form, a distant call suddenly echoed in its mind… "Black day vast, white night bright.

Evil cult and wicked party, fear my divine light.

Frightful fire cremation, those who defy me shall perish.

Fear as the source, endless glory…" "It's that person!"

"The humanoid creature from Earth, cowardly, fearful, twisted, with no potential to be a host."

Parallax quickly obtained all of Hecter's information. Although it was extremely reluctant to inhabit such a creature, at this moment, it had no other choice.

Boom!

A powerful energy erupted from within Parallax's body, temporarily breaking free from the will-powered cage. Its remaining body transformed into a streak of light, following the mental space constructed by yellow fear energy, and abruptly vanished.

The surrounding Green Lantern members were stunned. They looked at each other, not knowing what had happened.

Sinestro's expression was exceptionally serious. He immediately brought up the instrument specifically used to track Parallax. Soon, a barely perceptible yellow dotted line appeared in the starry sky, its end pointing towards a distant star.

"Abin Sur's body, and his successor Hal Jordan, are on the life-sustaining planet in that star system," someone whispered, looking up at their leader, Sinestro. The latter clenched his fist, his stern face covered in frost… On an uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean, Earth.

Two figures fell from the sky, none other than Luke, clad in ghost armor, and Carol, carrying a purple metal box.

"How's that guy doing? Still resisting?"

Carol shook her head, saying strangely, "I'm worried he might have suffocated!"

"That's for the best, saves us trouble."

Luke shrugged, then added, "However, the probability of that happening is extremely low. Let him out, it's time to end the battle."

When they spoke of the battle, both their expressions immediately turned serious. Hecter's ability to manipulate fear was tricky. If he found an opening, it could very likely lead to a counter-kill.

The purple metal box slowly opened, revealing a damaged head, its eyes tightly shut, motionless, seemingly unconscious.

Luke raised his hand, and an energy blast blew the head to a pulp. Flesh and blood splattered everywhere. The anticipated yellow particles did not appear; the blood and flesh seeped into the soil, slowly disappearing.

What's going on?

The two exchanged glances, both seeing question marks in each other's eyes. Could he really have suffocated? It couldn't be, could it? He was a powerful being with yellow fear energy, after all. If he died like this, it would be too anticlimactic.

Green flames erupted in Luke's eyes. After observing for a moment, he shook his head.

"What a pity. I originally wanted to preserve his head in formaldehyde as a living specimen, but I didn't expect it to shatter with one shot."

Carol angrily said, "Don't say such disgusting things, no one wants to see him pickled in a jar."

Luke shrugged.

"I think it's a great idea. A head this big, one of a kind in the world, just like Rasputin's genitalia, they're all exhibits worth collecting."

The two discussed the issue of collectibles for five minutes, and only ended the boring topic once they confirmed that Hecter would not revive.

The battle ended too quickly. The foreplay wasn't even finished, and it went straight to the end, without even a climax.

What a shame. I had originally planned to test whether the green flame could withstand the erosion of yellow fear energy. Now, it seems I'll have to wait for the next opportunity.

The two simply cleaned up the battlefield and turned to leave. Just then, a strange sensation came from above.
