Chapter 4 – Cousin's Shadow

Evening fell. Veer stood at the taxi stand, still in his uniform. His phone buzzed with a new notification—

Client: Pickup from Nagloi → Drop to Shastri Nagar.

"At least today's petrol money is covered," Veer muttered, starting the engine.

A woman and a small boy waited by the roadside.

"Bhaiya, please take us to Shastri Nagar," the woman said with a faint smile.

Veer nodded and drove them silently through the crowded streets. The ride ended quietly, but when he dropped them off, the woman turned her face away, handed him the money, and walked off without a word of thanks.

Veer's lips curved into a bitter smile.

"Seems like humanity shows up only when money does."

Before he could pull away, a mocking voice rang out from behind—

"Well, well, well… look who it is! My little cousin! Still alive?"

Veer froze. Slowly, he turned.

A young man stood there, dressed head-to-toe in branded clothes, false pride plastered on his face, arrogance burning in his eyes.

It was Hara—his uncle's son.

"Hara…" Veer's fists clenched.

Hara strutted closer, grabbed Veer by the neck, and shoved him hard against the taxi.

"You're still breathing? I thought the dogs on the street would've finished you years ago."

Veer's voice was cold, steady, but his blood boiled beneath the surface.

"What do you want from me? What wrong have I ever done to you?"

Hara laughed cruelly, spitting out curses between his words.

"Wrong? You? Don't make me laugh! You've never mattered enough to ruin anything. You've always been trash on our path—and you still are."

With a sneer, he yanked Veer's hair and smashed his head against the bonnet. Blood trickled down Veer's forehead.

"Remember this," Hara growled, smashing Veer's taxi windshield with his elbow. "Anyone who forgets his place ends up like this."

Laughter echoed as Hara and his friends walked away, leaving Veer bleeding by the car.

His phone buzzed again—

Ride Cancelled. Rating: 0 Stars. Complaint Filed.

The manager's call followed immediately.

"Veer! The client's filed a complaint. You're finished here. And the cost of that car damage—you'll pay it yourself."

The call cut.

Veer collapsed onto the pavement, blood dripping, tears burning his eyes. His voice shook with rage and helplessness.

"Enough… I can't take this anymore…"

He grabbed his phone and hurled it to the ground.

CRACK!

But instead of shattering, a brilliant blue light erupted from it. The air rippled, forming a holographic screen—

[Status System Activated]

A figure stepped out of the glow—

A beautiful girl in a maid outfit, thigh-high stockings, sharp eyes tempered with a soft smile.

She bowed gracefully.

"Master Veer," she said. "I am your system guide, Aria. At your service."

Veer's breath caught. His mind blanked.

"This… what's happening?"

And in that moment, his world changed forever.
