Chapter 119 - Episode 55: Part 3 - Hype and The Next Reveal

The silence that followed Sael's announcement was heavier than the one after his song. This wasn't a reverent silence; it was the silence of a popped balloon, of a collective dream deflating in real-time. The chat, which had been a screaming torrent of hype, stalled, then began to scroll with a slow, mournful cadence.

[User_1145] : …aw man.[G-Force1] : Really?[Pyook] : My dreams…[Pyro12] : shattered.[User_6789] : I would've given them my entire paycheck…[Cambian14]: every week.[User_8990] : Understandable but… so fucking sad.

The disappointment was a tangible wave. But then, it curdled into something else: desperate, fan-driven initiative.

[User_9990]: START A KICKFUND![G-Force]: I'LL DONATE![User_00067]: Meteor Studio FundMe when?[Cambian14]: TAKE MY MONEY![User_1145] : How much do you need?[Richman43]: I'll mortgage my house!

Simultaneously, in the polished, air-conditioned silence of corporate boardrooms, a different kind of energy sparked. At Thundra Corp., a junior executive's hand shot up.

"Sir! This is our in! They're cash-starved! We can offer development funding, take a minority stake, get our name on a Meteor Studio live-service title!"

At A.E. Games, a similar scene played out.

"Get the acquisition team on the line! No, not to buy them—they'd never sell. A partnership! Blank check! Whatever they need!"

The stream had inadvertently become a global marketplace, and the most valuable product on earth—Meteor Studio's creative output—was suddenly seemingly on the table.

Millie watched the chat fly by, her own excited smile fading into a look of concern. "Whoa, okay, everyone, breathe!" she said, her voice trying to inject calm into the digital frenzy.

"I'm sure the studio has its reasons…"

Sael's avatar remained the eye of the hurricane, a picture of preternatural calm. He held up a hand, a simple gesture that somehow commanded absolute attention.

"We see the offers. And we appreciate them... Truly. The support is… humbling." His voice was warm, grateful, but carried an undercurrent of unshakable resolve.

"But Meteor Studio was founded on a principle… We don't make promises in exchange for money. We don't want to be beholden to quarterly reports or shareholder expectations."

He leaned forward slightly, his avatar's gaze seeming to pierce through the screen directly into the soul of every viewer and executive listening.

"And we categorically cannot accept funding or investment from any major corporation." The statement was delivered not as a rejection, but as a simple, non-negotiable fact of nature.

"That kind of influence, however well-intentioned, jeopardizes the one sacred oath every person in our studio lives by: to create good games, first and foremost... Not profitable ones… Not shareholder-pleasing ones. Good ones. That means creative control stays with us. Always."

The statement landed with the force of a moral decree. In living rooms, fans slumped in their chairs, the truth of his words resonating even through their disappointment. They'd seen what happened to their favorite studios after acquisition. The magic always faded.

In Martin Berg's penthouse, the director let out a long, weary sigh, nodding slowly. "He's right, of course. The moment you take their money; you start making their product. It's a damn shame, but he's right." Henry and Robert nodded in grim agreement.

At Thundra Corp., the excited junior executive was waved down by his CEO.

"Stand down. He's drawn his line in the sand. The dream is dead. For now." The room, once buzzing, fell into a relieved silence. The looming threat of an unbeatable competitor had just voluntarily neutered itself.

Millie's avatar visibly slumped, her shoulders drooping. She shared the global disappointment, her voice a little hollow. "Aww, man. That really sucks. I was already dreaming of my character…"

"However," Sael said, his voice shifting, taking on a new, dramatic energy that instantly snapped everyone to attention. The somber mood evaporated.

"We didn't want to leave everyone completely empty-handed. We know you're hungry for what's next."

He paused, letting the anticipation build.

"So, while the live-service dream is on ice… we haven't been idle. Meteor Studio's next game is already complete. Fully finished. Polished. Ready to go. It's sitting on a server, just waiting for its moment."

The whiplash from despair to shock was instantaneous. Millie's despair vanished. Her eyes went wide as dinner plates. She let out a shriek of joy that peaked her microphone, causing a brief burst of static (SCREEEE—).

"NO WAY! SERIOUSLY?!" she screamed, and without thinking, she launched herself from her stool. Her avatar crossed the space between them and wrapped its arms around Sael's in a tight, impulsive virtual hug. "YOU'RE THE BEST! OH MY GOD!"

The female-dominated sector of the chat immediately revolted.

[SAEL_ONAHOLE] : GET OFF HIM YOU THOT![SVTBitch]: THAT'S MY HUSBAND![Femboy4Sael]: UNHAND THE NATIONAL TREASURE MILLIE![SaelCumdumpster]: I WILL FIGHT YOU![Bitch]: SELFISH![JustAhole]: WE ALL WANT A HUG!

Sael's avatar stiffened slightly in the embrace before gently, firmly prying her off with a soft, amused chuckle. "Alright, alright. Personal space, Millie. The fans are getting jealous."

He smoothed out his virtual jacket, a completely unnecessary but charmingly human gesture.

"So," he said, his voice dropping into a deep, conspiratorial, hype-man tone. The kind of voice that sold out arenas. The studio lights seemed to dim around him, focusing all attention on his smirking avatar.

"Since you've all been so patient… would you like to see a little sneak peek? A first look at Meteor Studio's next game?"

The answer did not scroll. It erupted. It was a single, unified, deafening roar from the entire digital world, condensed into one word that flooded the chat so completely it broke the scrolling mechanism for a full three seconds, leaving the screen frozen on a solid wall of text:

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
