Chapter 201 - The End of Times, Part 4

"Keep moving! We need to get out of here as soon as possible! The exorcists are about to launch a frontal assault, so we must evacuate!" Two soldiers rushed into a small place where the wounded were receiving medical attention.

The elderly doctor who had been treating all the survivors let out a long sigh of relief upon seeing the soldiers who had arrived. Furthermore, it seemed that the survivors were gathering here, so things didn't appear to be going too badly.

Unfortunately for them, things weren't as good as they thought.

The soldiers began arriving with injuries so severe that they would need an operating room immediately. Others had limbs hanging limply, while many more had already arrived dead.

"We must leave this place! The army is about to launch an all-out attack, and we'll only get in the way if we stay here!" the captain said as he removed the helmet from his head.

"With all due respect, sir, as you can see, there are hundreds of injured people here, and we can no longer accommodate any more! We won't leave them behind, nor will we flee. Given the current situation, the best thing for all of us is to stay here!"

"But we can't do that! If we stay here, even more people will get hurt in the crossfire!"

"Are they going to use missiles?" a young man asked anxiously.

"Are they going to bomb this place? Impossible!" shouted an elderly man with a bandage wrapped around his head.

"They aren't going to use missiles. Some soldiers will launch a direct assault against the enemy. We know they're terrorists who released mutated beasts using a special chemical. We'll take care of your safety, so you don't need to be afraid."

"We'll do as you say!" The doctor nodded in agreement. In any case, only the military knew what was happening here, so they had to act according to their plan.

"How are we going to move?" asked a woman holding her child in her arms.

"Now isn't the time to worry about trivial things like that! The enemy is heading in our direction because we're afraid! Negative emotions attract those kinds of monsters, so stop being afraid. Together, we're strong, and we'll survive!"

The residents in the other areas had already been evacuated. This was the only place where injured people remained, and it was also the most dangerous location because it lay at the center of the battle line.

The old doctor looked at the floor and saw that many people were unable to stand. He then said, "I'm not going to abandon my patients. My wife and I promised that we would stay by their side until the very end."

"You told us we shouldn't be afraid. If we abandon them, they'll be terrified!" The doctor's voice carried a strong sense of determination. The soldiers standing guard turned their heads and clenched their fists, frustrated that they weren't as strong as they wanted to be.

"Since the civilians refuse to evacuate, we won't leave this place either." The soldiers deliberately spoke loudly so everyone could hear them. As soon as they finished speaking, they left the building immediately. Seconds later, the sound of gunfire rang out continuously from somewhere nearby.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The soldiers wanted everyone to stop being afraid, but even they were terrified. All they could hope for was that their sacrifice would be worthwhile and that the entire city wouldn't be destroyed. There were more than four hundred thousand people throughout Miami, so the enemy's advance couldn't be allowed to continue.

The elderly couple of doctors embraced each other gently, their hearts filled with sorrow. At least they had lived happy lives, but there were children in this place who had barely begun to live.

Then, at that moment, a soldier who had left to fight hurried back inside. He was carrying a rifle in his hand.

"What happened?"

The elderly couple was taken by surprise. The soldier took a deep breath and said in a grave voice, "We haven't received reinforcements, and the enemy is heading straight toward us! It would be better for me to end your lives than to let those monsters kill you."

However, at that moment, an elderly woman emerged from a corner of the room and said, "Excuse me, young man. My husband served in the war, so I know what you're going through. Don't fight for us old folks. Take the children with you instead and get out of here as soon as possible."

Only then did the soldier lower his weapon as he watched the elderly man slowly make his way toward him.

"If those children are taken away from their mothers' arms, then I won't be able to feel that I've saved them! Everything outside is chaos. Honestly, we don't even know whether we can escape or not."

"Then what are you going to do, young soldier?" the elderly woman asked.

"I'm going to stay here. I'm sure reinforcements will arrive soon, so if I hold this position, we might survive." The soldier put his helmet back on and walked toward the door without saying anything else.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

The ground began to tremble more and more violently.

Having made his decision, the soldier stopped at the doorway and looked outside. Once he managed to see through the smoke and dust, he spotted a monster about three meters tall. It was crawling on all fours across the buildings' structures when it noticed him.

"Th-that's its mouth..."

The Demon was biting one of his comrades who had been fighting nearby. The soldier narrowed his eyes and pulled the trigger of his rifle.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

"Ahhhhh!"

Unfortunately, even though they were a special forces unit, their modern weapons were only effective up to a certain level of enemy. The Demon took the bullets and healed its body with ease.

"For God's sake, I have to hold out here, or everyone will die..."

But just then, a figure dressed in black appeared in front of the soldier and said, "Everything will be fine now. Constantine is here!"
