[08:18] 8 April, in Faros.
"Newspapers! I have newspapers for 3 dollars!" A black man, with a small stand called out.
"Good morning, sir! Would you like to buy a newspaper?
It's only 3 Esmeraldian dollars" He said to me as I passed by, wearing glasses, a grey gilet, and a white shirt underneath.
He gave me a toothy smile, so I willingly accepted.
"Hello, sir. I'd like to buy one of your newspapers. Here's your money"
I gave him 3 dollars, and in the meantime, he handed me the newspaper.
While leafing through it, something catches my attention.
"Sir, is it true what's written here? I can't believe it. This has to be some kind of joke, isn't it?" I asked him.
The smile on his face froze before turning into a sad expression.
"Sir, what the headline says is true. Hard times will come"
The entire Boros clan was slaughtered; causes, responsibilities, and consequences are still unknown. For this reason, the Faros family raises the alert level to the maximum
I put my hand on my forehead, still in disbelief, and looked at the newspaper seller.
"Do you think we'll be safe here?"
"Sir, my wife, who has lived here for 23 years, said nobody ever bypassed the Faros maximum level of security. We live in the second ring, sir. At this point, all we can do is pray everything will be fine"
His reassurances weren't enough to remove the blank look from my face. The Boros clan had continued its dynasty for more than 300 years. It must have been the work of an organized group of people. Now, the Boros city had lost its rulers, and the balance between kingdoms was in danger.
[18:57] 31 March 1678, in Shiva, with Septum
(Tomorrow is Mum's birthday. I have to talk about it with Cicaro)
I am Septum, and when I grow up like my brother, I want to be a Descendant! Right now, we are visiting our grandpa, in Shiva.
Even if I am too young to talk about it with grandpa, my brother still helps me with my dream.
"Heyyy!" I looked at the garden's gate, knowing that was my brother screaming. I saw him smiling, and then he said:
"Septum, let's get in our bunker. There are a lot of things grandpa told me" He was excited, so we quickly went to our "Secret Bunker".
It's an abandoned warehouse, only me and my brother know the place. There we conserve and write everything grandpa says about Descendants.
The bunker is located between a small river and a large meadow, with beautiful, colorful flowers due to the spring season. We entered through a rusty door; the place smelled of dust, with old wooden furniture, damaged by termites.
We kept the papers inside a metal box, which we found already inside the bunker. My brother held the only key to open the box.
"Alright, get ready, this time It's different" Cicaro said as he sat on a dusty pillow. "We are getting close to it brotha! Grandpa said there are mainly two ways to become a Descendant" He took a large piece of paper and started drawing.
"Do you remember the concept of "Chains"? Either we discover one by ourselves, which wasn't recommended by Grandpa. Instead, he said we should find another Descendant and hope he shares his chain with us" Cicaro was excited, but I replied:
"Brother…but we don't know anyone who has a chain, and nobody would share his chain with two kids" I replied.
"Brotha, this time we have Grandpa's help. Look at this" Cicaro handed me a chain necklace. I grabbed it and observed it closely, but It looked like a normal necklace.
"This is the Descendant-Detector, let's just call it the "D.D. It should heat up when it gets closer to someone who has a chain. I want you to keep it okay?" I put the necklace on, giving a smile to my brother.
"We'll both become Descendants, right, brother?" He stood up, looked intensely into my eyes, and quickly said:
"No doubt, we will become Descendants, and we'll help our mother"
"Uhhh, about that, brother, tomorrow is her birthday; we need to buy something for her" My brother's jaw dropped.
"WHAT? How did I not remember the birthday? What kind of son am I…"Cicaro was on his knees with his face nearly to the ground.
"It's okay, tomorrow we'll buy something. Let's start thinking about it now"
The night passed for everyone.
