Chapter 22 - Irony of life

**Lucien's POV**

How can a mother be so evil? Aren't mothers supposed to be loving and kind to their children?

I stared at Gabrielle, shivering on the floor. I had angrily grabbed her after she broke another one of my rules, only for her to gasp in immense pain. Initially, I thought I was hurting her until I saw it: a thread sewn into her skin.

I had to tear part of her gown to examine it properly. It was red and swollen, and I could see the glowing threads. This was no ordinary stitch; it was a relic, clearly the work of her mother.

Anger boiled in my stomach as I watched her shiver, making my wolf growl within me.

"Calm down, Rave," I said softly, trying to quiet the beast that wanted to tear free and confront her mother. I hadn't felt rage this intense in a long time—perhaps because she is now my wife.

I grabbed my sword and told Penny to take care of Gabrielle while I left to handle the situation myself.
