I stretched my hand toward the book, trying to use my powers to open it again. But nothing happened. "Except this one is a random book I got from the library," I muttered in frustration.
"Calm down, my lady," Maya said from behind me. "You're forcing it too much. If there's anything I've learned about power, it's that it comes on its own, not by force."
"Well, I don't have time for it to come on its own!" I snapped. "You heard what she said about me, right? That I'm useless. Or maybe… maybe I really am useless."
"No, my lady," Maya said quickly. "You don't have to listen to whatever she's saying."
"But I have to!" I shouted. "And even though you and I try to deny it, she's right. I'm just the White Wolf. I'm not the White Wolf. Every White Wolf before me has done something great for this pack. But me? I've done nothing but play the damsel in distress. She's right. I need to awaken my powers — and rub it in her face."
