Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: I'm here to pick you up

Hayato followed behind Kushiro Arisa and Kurashiki Reina. After wandering a bit through the hallways, they eventually circled back—right into F Class.

There were still a handful of students inside, chatting idly about games and anime. But the moment they noticed Arisa's imposing presence and Reina's piercing gaze, they froze, let out small gasps, and quickly scattered.

Soon, only two girls and one boy remained in the room.

Hayato still didn't quite understand why Kurashiki Reina had called for him. From her attitude, it was clear this wasn't just about… or rather, not only about the little "accident" earlier.

Even without Dong Gang's interference, she would've dragged him here regardless.

Of course, Hayato's head was still full of thoughts about the Alpaca Princess BD disc. His first instinct had been to slip away, but Reina's eyes—sharp, unyielding—made him give up on the idea.

It wasn't that he was scared of her. He just knew: unless he let her say everything she wanted all at once, this woman would hound him endlessly.

That persistence was exactly what defined Kurashiki Reina.

And truthfully, Hayato also had a few things he wanted to clear up with her.

The classroom itself was empty, but outside the door, along the corridor, even by the windows—students had gathered like moths to flame, eager for gossip.

"Whoa, this is a sin. First Miyajima Sakura, now Kurashiki Reina!?"

"This Kobayashi guy… just how many secrets is he hiding?"

"Kurashiki won't bully Kobayashi, right? She looks scary."

"Not just scary—'scarily stacked,' too. If I could be alone in a room with Kurashiki, I'd gladly let her beat me up."

"…So you're a masochist?"

"First of all, I'm not a masochist. Secondly, Kurashiki's disdainful glare is divine. Let me repeat: I am not a masochist. If I were, I'd have enjoyed it when she stomped on me earlier. And one last time—I am absolutely not a masochist."

"Shut it, maso—"

Bang!

The sound of the door slamming drowned out the rest.

Because Kushiro Arisa had already shut the doors and windows.

In the past, Hayato would have worried whether his frail body could withstand it if these two girls tried to force something on him.

But today was different. If they dared to act recklessly, Hayato would not hesitate to cut them down with his great sword.

"…You really are disgusting, aren't you?"Kurashiki Reina perched herself on the desk. Already tall, this posture only made her figure more striking.

She lifted her pale chin, her tone dripping with arrogant disdain.

"Huh?" Hayato touched his nose, confused by her words.

But Kurashiki's gaze was fixed on the bridge of Hayato's nose—yes, the very thing that had just been under her skirt. She deliberately suppressed the sickening memory that rose to her mind.

Kurashiki fell silent, leaving the next move to Kushiro Arisa.

"You're good at putting on an act, huh…" Arisa narrowed her eyes at Hayato. Much shorter than him, her glare carried ferocity, though it lacked the sharp edge of Reina's. "Didn't you talk pretty boldly before? In front of our classmates."

"…What are you talking about?" Hayato's expression remained blank.

"Don't play dumb!" Arisa bared her sharp canine teeth. "Someone told us—you failed to pursue Reina, then started spreading garbage like, 'Once I learned her true nature I lost all interest,' 'She's just a cheap slut,' and 'She's been with tons of rich, handsome guys.' Those words came from you, didn't they?!"

Hayato froze.

Kurashiki casually twirled a strand of light golden hair around her finger. "Do you even realize what you're saying?"

Her pale green eyes instantly darkened. If looks could kill, Hayato would have been torn apart a hundred times over.

"Pathetic! Spreading rumors just because you were rejected? What kind of spineless man are you! You're no better than an animal!" Arisa shouted. Earlier her words had been restrained enough that people outside couldn't hear clearly, but now her furious voice carried, enough for any eavesdropper to catch fragments. "Go look in a mirror! You think Reina is someone you can even touch? What's wrong with her rejecting you!?"

She unleashed her curses without pause, while Hayato said nothing in return.

When she finally stopped to breathe, Arisa smirked to herself—so he only dares to run his mouth behind people's backs, but face-to-face, he's nothing but a coward.

Then Hayato opened his mouth at last.

"…Oh? Do you actually believe it?"

"Eh? What?"

"Those things—'Kurashiki is a slut,' 'She's with rich guys' and so on. Do you believe any of that?" he asked calmly.

"Of course not!" Arisa snapped back.

"Hmph. Then there's your answer." Hayato spread his hands, smiling faintly. "Why would I spread rumors that even someone with your half-baked IQ wouldn't believe? Just to make myself a joke?"

Arisa's pupils shrank. She realized belatedly that he was mocking her.

Before she could snap back, Hayato pulled a wad of crumpled banknotes from his pocket.

"Huh? What's this, you planning to bribe us… or beg for mercy?" Arisa sneered, looking at him as if he were an idiot.

But Hayato's disdain was sharper still. His eyes looked at her as though she were a slimy amphibian.

"The money I won—from the same idiot who came tattling to you," Hayato said flatly, stuffing the bills back into his pocket. "If your brain were bigger than his balls, you wouldn't have fallen for such obvious trash."

"…!" Arisa's face froze, her tongue caught by the blunt insult.

Part of her thought his words made sense—but his tone was so infuriating she refused to admit it.

"But he wasn't wrong about everything," Hayato continued, shifting his gaze to Kurashiki Reina. "Kurashiki, it's true—I don't have the slightest interest in you anymore. That's also why I followed you here. You know that, so let's not drag up the past. Life's already full of enough trials."

Reina bit down hard on her silver-white teeth, her slender fingers tangling in her golden hair. She sneered coldly.

"Don't act like you're the cool one here. Don't forget, I was the one who rejected you! Stop pretending you let go on your own! A dark, disgusting guy like you will never—"

The word "—be favored" never left her lips.

Because at that moment, the classroom door opened.

Arisa turned, ready to lash out at whoever intruded, but when she saw who it was, the words died on her tongue.

A senior girl stood gracefully in the doorway.

"I've come to pick you up, Hayato-kun."

Miyajima Sakura smiled sweetly, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear. Her gaze swept across Arisa, then lingered on Reina.

"What's going on here?" she asked lightly.

"Ah, just a friendly chat," Hayato replied with a shy smile.
