"Ah shit."
"What's wrong? These are all really good for a start."A sultry voice said.
"That's not the problem! Why the fuck do all of these skills basically have VILLAIN tagged on them?!" Sai grumbled in exasperation. His titles were dope, yes but were throat deep in sketchy. Even his class suddenly looked worse than when it first appeared. Origin Villain 1? What the hell was an Origin Villain?
"How the hell am I supposed to live a normal life with these skills." He said, more to himself than to the woman beside him as he dragged his hand through his long hair.
"Somehow I don't think that's possible. The world has already set the stage for your ascent. All that's left is for you to take it, master." She teased.
Sai could already see the sharp glint in her eyes as she talked about it. She definitely wanted him to become the demon king, even if she didn't say it.
'Sigh. What can I expect? She is a demon herself after all. To her this must be like me becoming a king. At least she isn't trying to take the crown herself.' His eyes narrowed just a fraction even as she smiled innocently. 'That said, I still need to keep an eye on her. I still don't know how much my hold on her is.'
"Argh, this is such a a hassle." He said frustrated as he plopped down back on his bed.
He glanced through his system screen again, the dark interface showing the same absurd titles and skills that would make most mouths water but to him they were just constraints, chains meant to bind him to a path he had no interest in going. His eyes stopped at the skill [Lesser Abysmal aura manipulation].
"Vyriss, do all demons have this skill?"
"Yes, it is a common skill for most demons, although there are some that lack the basic talent and capability for aura manipulation and some naturally have a batter attunement to the energy and have a higher mastery level from scratch." She replied matter-of-factly.
Sai raised his hand as a writhing black glob of abysmal energy appeared above his palm. It would be—to most people—disgusting and repulsive, it's very existence warping the air as if the space around it refused to make contact as it's form glowed with a black-violet light as it shifted between solid, fluid and shadow. Yet, to him it was strangely beautiful.
Maybe because Absymal energy was the mana of demons which he currently was or the effect of his skill but immediately it appeared above his palm, he instinctively knew how to use it.
The glob immediately shivered as it reshaped into a small dense orb as it brimmed with hardly contained power. He eyed a nearby desk lamp, it's pale glow flickering under his gaze.
BANG!
The shot tore through the air as it struck the lamp with the force of a truck (at least it seemed like it) as it completely obliterated not only the lamp but the entire desk into splinters, even making a slight indent in the wall.
"Wow. That really packs a punch." Sai's eyes shone at the possibilities.
He promptly summoned another glob of abysmal energy as he reshaped it. This one was almost five times bigger than the last one. as Sai now sat cross-legged on the bed, his eyes closed as he concentrated fully on the image in his head. Something... lethal.
Beside him, Vyriss smiled as she watched him so serious about the basic absymal manipulation as she grinned, watching him struggle to create a concrete weapon.
'Young master, I wonder how far your path would go before you fall.'
Her smile carried the smugness of someone watching a newbie finally taken his first step into the bigger picture.
After a few minutes of intense focus, the glob flipped back unto his palm with an unsatisfying PLOP.
Vyriss raised a brow. 'Well I guess he's not really so talented after all.' she thought with a pang of disappointment but the next second, her eyes widened in shock.
[Ding!]
[You have learned the skill Abyss Bullet ]
[Ding!]
[You have learned the skill Midnight Rain]
[Ding!]
[You have learned the skill Dark Enhancement ]
[Ding!]
[You have crafted the skill Dark Tiles]
[Ding!]
[You have crafted the skill Black Bomb]
[Your mastery of Absymal energy has increased]
"What...is this?" Vyriss said, her eyes looking at him with a mix of admiration and unease.
He opened his eyes slowly, exhaling deeply. His brow twitched slightly as he gazed hard at the translucent screen in front of him. Four new skills. Each one undeniably useful.
Yet...
"They all still have the dark attribute." He glared at the new additions with barely contained annoyance.
"Master...?"
"I told you to stop calling me that already." Sai replied dismissively, rolling his eyes at the cringey title.
"Did you just...craft two skills?"she asked hesitantly.
"Yeah, so what?" He answered, raising a brow.
She sighed in mock surrender as she laughed softly, half-amusement, half-exasperation.
"Honestly, do you really not know how big a deal it is to craft a skill. It usually takes decades for a person to be able to craft a single skill, even at that, the person must be of a high level."
Sai just smiled.
"Well, I'm obviously not a regular person as this stupid system has been keen on telling me." she smiled wryly as he shrugged it off then more to himself than her "it's not like those two the only skills I plan on crafting."
Vyriss eyes him for a bit before sighing inwardly. She didn't need to hear his words to know his plans, it was written all over his face.
'Whatever, my Lord's growth will only be for the better. Soon enough, he'll be strong enough to take the throne.'
CREAK.
Suddenly, he heard the bathroom door open slightly. He had noticed that the siblings had been in there for quite some while. He didn't intrude as he still needed their trust or at least their cooperation in order for him to escape this place.
Unsurprisingly, it wasn't any of the siblings that came through the door, but the flying shard of a mirror!
"Predictable." He sighed. It looked like this wasn't the end as several more glass shards shot out
BANG!
An [Abyss Bullet] intercepted the glass projectile, shattering it into harmless fragments easily. More glass shards immediately shot out from behind the door.
"Sigh. This is going to be difficult." Sai groaned, once again turning to his immediate problem as several more Abysmal bullets struck down the glass shards. He noticed some having small trails of blood on them, signs of a hard grip on the sharp edges.
"You know, you could just kill them and fight the cult on your own." Vyriss suggested as she watched more glass shards come flying out from behind the door.
"Believe me, I'm tempted." He said dryly.
He could easily sense the girl behind the door as she crouched among several glass shards broken likely from a bathroom mirror—an apparently large bathroom mirror.
"I don't have time for this." He said, his patience wearing razor thin. He rose from the bed and walked over to the bath, slinging on a pair of pants Vyriss tossed over to him.
"Come out now or I'll come in myself." He said flatly even though his legs never stopped advancing. No response. "Okay, have it your way."
BANG!
In a single motion, he broke open the door, knocking it back towards the other side of the room with a loud bang.
He saw the shocked face of the girl, momentarily stunned by his entrance as she still clutched a glass shard tightly in her hand, the edges slightly drawing blood.
Without hesitation he grabbed her by the neck and pinned her against the wall while careful not to use too much force. He didn't want to break her after all.
~SQUELCH.
She managed to drive the shard into his shoulder.
Scratch that, he now totally wanted to break her.
"You know..."his eyes suddenly gleamed a deep violet as his aura flared. "it's quite exhausting being nice. Especially when the other person's not worth it."
For a moment, her spark of defiance wavered under the fear of his oppressive aura. She began squirming as she struggled to release herself from the grip of this predator before her.
'That's right. Squirm like the insignificant insect that you are. Bow before my greatness.' He enjoyed watching her in that state as she tried desperately to pry his hands off her as his grip tightened slowly around her throat.
Luckily, he caught himself.
His grip loosened as he let her fall from his grip. She slid down the wall slowly as she struggled to get the air back into her lungs.
'Damn it, I seriously need to get this whole demon thing under wraps. If this is how I am now...'
Sigh. Annoying.
