Three days slipped by in a blink.
During that time, Draconis kept to his contracts with Mai Sakurajima and the Nakano quintuplets—no new summoners, no fresh trouble.
It was the weekend. Rias and Akeno had gone to Sona Sitri's house for some student council business, leaving Draconis free. He decided to take Asia out shopping, determined to update her wardrobe.
Asia trailed behind, nervous. "Um, I already have clothes, you know. I wear my school uniform most of the time, so… we really didn't need to come out just for this."
Draconis shot her a sidelong look. "You rotate through the same three outfits. A girl's gotta have options—cute ones, too."
He led her into the mall, weaving through racks of pastel dresses and blouses. Asia's eyes sparkled, unable to hide her longing as she scanned the rows of frills and lace.
"Are we… really buying these?" she asked, voice barely above a whisper.
"Of course. I brought you here for a reason."
Draconis grinned, taking her hand and steering her toward the largest clothing section.
He glanced at a few mature styles—elegant, sharp, more Rias or Akeno's speed. Not for Asia. She was all about sweetness and innocence; cute was her lane.
Asia seemed to agree, quickly picking out two adorable outfits.
"Do these… look good?" She held the clothes up, cheeks tinged pink.
"You can't tell just by holding them. Go try them on—let's see if they fit."
He gently nudged her into the fitting room.
Asia emerged a few minutes later, dressed in a white princess gown. Draconis couldn't help but smile. The dress was perfect—her golden hair framed her delicate features, and the white fabric made her look almost ethereal, like she'd stepped straight out of a fairytale.
"Wow, your girlfriend looks stunning in that!" the sales clerk gushed, eyes bright with admiration.
Asia flushed instantly, so shy she could barely meet anyone's gaze.
"N-no, I'm not—" she stammered.
"Oh? Did I get it wrong?" The clerk looked mortified.
Draconis chuckled. "Not at all. She's already promised to marry me someday—being just a girlfriend isn't enough anymore."
Asia's face turned a deeper shade of red, happiness shining through her embarrassment.
"Lucky you! With an angelic girl like her, you're living the dream!" The clerk's enthusiasm only grew, practically bouncing with excitement.
Asia peeked up at Draconis, hope flickering in her eyes. "Do I… look pretty?"
Draconis smiled softly. "Of course you do. Even the clerk can't stop praising you."
He had to admit, the "angel" comment was funny—Asia did look every bit the part. Her gentle aura, her sweet smile, even her personality fit the bill. Too bad no one would guess she was actually a devil.
Draconis pursed his lips, amused. Angels weren't always what people imagined—think of the fallen ones. Before they fell, who knew what they were really like?
They tried on a few more outfits, lost in the simple joy of shopping. By noon, the sun was high and the streets busy.
Asia clung to Draconis's arm, her smile radiant. Shopping bags dangled from both their hands as they strolled, laughing together.
Suddenly, a chill crawled up Draconis's spine. His devil instincts flared—danger.
Asia sensed it too. Both stiffened, glancing around until their eyes landed on the source.
Two girls stood ahead, about Draconis's age. Despite the heat, both wore white cloaks, their appearance oddly out of place. One carried a massive cross-shaped weapon on her back, swaddled in white cloth.
Strangely, no one else seemed to notice them. The crowd flowed around the girls as if they were invisible.
Perception alteration, Draconis thought. And that aura—pure, not tainted like fallen angels. Different.
The blue-haired girl with the weapon spoke first, her tone icy. "Didn't expect to run into devils here."
Asia shrank behind Draconis, nervous. He kept his cool, sensing no killing intent. "Who are you? You're not locals."
The other girl burst out laughing, her voice bright and wild. "Wahaha! Isn't this fate? The moment I arrive, devils appear! Maybe this is my chance to achieve greatness—as an angel, defeating you will surely earn me a blessing!"
Draconis raised an eyebrow. Angel, huh? He'd tangled with plenty of fallen angels and stray devils, but this was his first encounter with the real deal.
They probably used divine power, just like their fallen counterparts.
The blue-haired girl's gaze shifted to Asia, thoughtful. "You're Asia Argento, aren't you?"
Asia startled, eyes wide. "Uh—how do you know my name?"
"I'm Xenovia Quarta. You wouldn't know me." Her voice was flat, almost bored.
The other girl piped up, tone sharp. "So she's the exiled saint? What a shame—fallen so far, now a devil…"
Asia lowered her head, the words stinging. Her body trembled, memories echoing in her mind.
Draconis moved a step closer, protective.
