"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 185: Pick the Easy-to-Tear Kind

Mai really knew how to get under Long Yi's skin.

Or maybe it was just a universal weakness—every guy falls for this kind of teasing.

Honestly, Mai was just spoiling her boyfriend.

Long Yi grinned at her promise, immediately pushing his luck:

"I want the kind that tears easy."

Mai caught on in a heartbeat. There was a two-second pause on the line.

"…I need to go do my makeup."

She switched topics smoothly. "If you two are coming, Uzuki left tickets for you."

Long Yi knew she was embarrassed—no way she'd let him run with that conversation. He let it go.

"We'll be right there."

He hung up, walked over to Nodoka, and slid an arm around her waist.

"Let's go. I'll fly us over."

"Wait—huh?!"

Before Nodoka could react, Long Yi launched them skyward. Ever since he'd mastered teleportation and flight magic, cars and subways were strictly for mortals.

Five minutes later, they landed at Mai's venue—a plaza outside a commercial tower, where a stage had been set up for Sweet Bullet's show.

Calling it a "concert" was generous. It was really just a corporate promo gig, with Sweet Bullet hired as the featured act—big sponsors, a sea of idol groups, and Sweet Bullet lucky enough to headline.

"Pretty packed," Long Yi said, scanning the crowd. The plaza was wall-to-wall with fans.

Tickets must've sold out fast.

"Mostly because they were cheap. Plus, they handed out a ton for free," Nodoka said, sounding less than thrilled.

This wasn't the kind of concert she'd dreamed of.

Sweet Bullet had built up some buzz—just enough that people recognized the name, but couldn't name a single member.

A little fame, but no real following.

"No one gets famous overnight. This is pretty good, honestly," Long Yi said, smiling.

Nodoka gave a self-deprecating laugh and fell silent.

With Mai as her benchmark, even her own achievements felt hollow.

It wasn't just other people comparing her to Mai—she did it to herself, every day.

That's human nature. Who can really let go of it?

They didn't have to wait long. Sweet Bullet took the stage, and the crowd's cheers swelled.

A lineup of beautiful girls—energy, excitement, the works.

To be honest, Long Yi wasn't much of an idol fan. If he didn't know the girl on stage was actually Mai inside Nodoka's body, he wouldn't have bothered watching.

Mai was a force of nature. In no time, she'd mastered every dance, even her vocals had leveled up.

Unlike the pumped-up crowd, Long Yi stayed cool, almost detached.

No matter how many people swayed and shouted, he stood quietly—like he'd wandered into the wrong event.

Five songs flew by—thirty minutes of non-stop choreography and vocals.

Even with all their training, the girls were sweating.

But their energy never flagged—they kept going, mistakes and all. Whenever someone slipped, Mai covered for them so smoothly no one noticed.

Nodoka watched from the audience, her emotions tangled.

No matter what, her sister was perfect.

Long Yi thought Mai looked like a max-level player stomping through a newbie zone—everything came so easily, it was unreal.

Stage presence, performance, improvisation—Mai nailed it all.

"Poor Nodoka," Long Yi murmured, watching Mai (in Nodoka's body) crush the set.

"Didn't need you to tell me," Nodoka replied, voice flat.

With a sister like Mai, it was hard not to feel second-best.

"That woman over there—is that your mom?" Long Yi nodded toward the side of the stage, where a middle-aged woman watched intently.

Nodoka saw her too, and spoke softly:

"Mom comes to every show."

"She must have high hopes for you."

"Only Mai ever meets them."

Long Yi sighed. "Why do you love building others up while tearing yourself down?"

"I'm just stating facts…" Nodoka whispered.

"So all that pep talk earlier was wasted?" Long Yi arched an eyebrow, then reached out and squished Nodoka's cheeks, turning her gloomy face into a silly grimace.

"Don't mope. Get some confidence. You care about your mom's opinion, right? Why not work your own way and make her proud of you for once?

A broken mirror still reflects. Why chase perfection? You're not as worthless as you think."

Nodoka was speechless.

Long Yi glanced at his hand, then smirked. "I've always wanted to mess with Mai's face like this. Thanks to you, I've learned a lot about her softer sides."

"…I'm not my sister's substitute!" Nodoka blurted, drawing stares from nearby fans.

Long Yi snapped his fingers—memory magic did its work, and the crowd ignored her outburst.

"Finally said what you feel, huh? How about telling your mom that?"

Long Yi sounded casual, almost bored.

Nodoka fell silent, realizing she'd let Long Yi lead her around again.

On stage, the show wrapped up. Mai's performance was flawless, earning her the lead vocalist spot for the next event.

Below, Nodoka's mother smiled—genuinely, for once.

But Nodoka's heart twisted.

Even Mom's rare smile was for Mai.

"Let's go home," Nodoka said quietly.

Long Yi kept poking at her, but she couldn't deny it—he'd stirred something inside her.
