"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 209: The Wicked Privileged Class
This was getting complicated.
Draconis Yi hadn't counted on Yuri being a National Security Bureau agent of all things.
If the guy dug even a little, their whole story would unravel.
Just great. The difficulty level had just gone through the roof.
He pinched the bridge of his nose, mentally running through options.
If he wanted a secret police identity, he'd have to make it airtight.
Sneaking into the Bureau and planting his own file?
Not a chance. That place was a fortress—and, from what he knew, the top brass were already tangled up with devils and angels.
Even Common Sense Alteration might not cut it.
Maybe he could just use magic on Yuri directly?
No, too risky.
Mind-altering spells were a stopgap at best—once they wore off, people snapped back, and the sharp ones always sensed something off.
Yuri worked in the Bureau. He probably had his own ways to resist that kind of power.
Draconis Yi sighed.
He just wanted to finish a simple commission. Why did it have to be this hard?
He was half-tempted to swap jobs with Koneko…
Yor watched his face with growing concern.
"Um… Draconis Yi? You look… stuck. Is there really no way?"
He forced a smile.
"Hang on. Time to phone a friend."
He pulled out his phone.
Back when faith contracts were still up in the air, he'd avoided asking for help—other devils getting involved risked the whole thing falling apart.
But now the contract was signed. No more reason to play solo.
Rias. She'd know what to do.
If anyone had experience wrangling human authorities, it was her.
He dialed. Rias picked up quickly, her voice brisk—she was in the middle of an archaeology commission.
"Draconis Yi? What's up?"
"Heh, need your expertise. Got a minute?"
"Wow, you're actually asking me for help?" Rias laughed. "Alright, hang on. Professor Gu, could you handle this for a bit? I need to take a call…"
A moment later, she was somewhere private.
"Okay, spill. What's going on?"
Draconis Yi laid out the problem. Rias listened, then groaned.
"…You're doing a commission and you managed to tangle with the National Security Bureau? Don't underestimate humans, Draconis Yi. Their power networks aren't as simple as you think."
"That's why I'm calling you," he said wryly.
"I need a secret police identity, but I can't just mess with Bureau agents. Any ideas?"
Rias sounded almost smug.
"You came to the right place. The National Security Bureau isn't easy for outsiders, but for the Gremory family? Piece of cake. We have sway there."
Draconis Yi blinked.
"I thought devils weren't supposed to meddle in human institutions or policy."
"Officially, sure. But behind the scenes? Everyone nudges things a little. Lots of our people live in the human world now.
And honestly, we don't really interfere.
The treaties spell it out. But back in the war days, everyone bent the rules.
Now, centuries later, those backdoors are still open.
As long as nobody goes overboard, everyone just turns a blind eye."
Draconis Yi couldn't help but laugh.
"The wicked privileged class, huh?"
Rias chuckled.
"You're one of us now~"
He'd never really felt the Gremory family's aristocratic power before.
He knew they ruled the Underworld, but seeing their reach in the human world…
This was just the tip of the iceberg.
Not bad.
A little taste of the privileged life wasn't so bad after all.
Rias promised to have Akeno reach out to the right people.
Draconis Yi finally relaxed.
"All set. No need to worry about the identity anymore." He smiled at Yor. "Your boyfriend's secret police credentials are in the works. All we have to do is get through tomorrow without raising Yuri's suspicions."
"Really? You're incredible, Draconis Yi…"
Yor sagged with relief. "That's such a weight off my shoulders…"
If Draconis Yi hadn't come through, she'd have had to confess everything to Yuri.
And "I needed a fake boyfriend to keep my assassin gig" wasn't something she could say with a straight face.
But now her job was safe.
Draconis Yi nudged her gently.
"Don't relax yet, Yor. We told him we're living together, remember? This place doesn't exactly scream 'cohabiting couple.'"
"…You're right!"
Yor's gaze swept the room.
Everything—furniture, decor—was tailored to a single woman's tastes.
Nothing said "boyfriend lives here."
"We should redecorate. Better yet, let's move to a place Yuri hasn't seen before. Fewer chances to slip up.
So… we'll use my house."
Yor blinked, stunned.
"I… I have to move in with you? Won't that be too much trouble?"
"No worries. I've got a spare villa—my parents left it to me. Perfect for this."
Draconis Yi thought back to when Rias rebuilt his family home into a castle.
The original villa had been relocated, still intact, just three streets away.
"Then… I'll be in your care…"
"Good. After tomorrow's business, meet me there. Try to come an hour or two early—we'll need time to prep."
"Okay…"
Yor remembered she still had assassination jobs tonight and tomorrow.
This weekend was going to be… busy.
