Back at the Leaky Cauldron, the old, shabby inn gave Leonard an unexpected sense of safety.
At least here, he didn't have to constantly worry about someone snatching him away to be sold.
Once in his room, he didn't rush to open the System or activate enhancements. Instead, he lay on the bed and began reviewing the day's battle.
Today had gone well—especially tricking Fenrir at the end. Just a small scheme had been enough to cripple that terrifying werewolf.
But that was only because Midgard had been there. If Leonard had been alone, even with Fenrir caught in the trap, the werewolf could have snapped his neck with ease.
And that was just Fenrir.
Leonard knew the story well enough: Fenrir was a werewolf wizard who disdained wands, trusting his claws and fangs in combat. That was why he'd closed the distance himself and stepped straight into the trap.
But another wizard would've been different. They'd never rush in. They'd attack from a distance, leaving such traps useless.
On top of that, Fenrir tearing through the Chomping Cabbage like it was nothing had been a harsh lesson. Relying too much on one method left him helpless against certain opponents.
For instance, no matter how sharp its bite, a Chomping Cabbage wasn't a match for a werewolf wizard.
What he really needed was a plant that could attack from range.
Of course, he could learn magic himself. Judging from how his wand performed, even a simple Disarming Charm could probably floor someone.
But wizards were just too fragile. Leonard didn't like the idea of relying solely on magic for life-or-death fights.
Especially against dark wizards. They wouldn't hesitate, wouldn't show mercy—they'd kill without a second thought.
"Still, I need to learn magic," Leonard muttered to himself. "Disillusionment Charm, Shield Charm—life-saving spells can't be ignored. Then I'll need to find the right magical plants to fight for me."
But where would he get plants that could attack from range?
"Forget it. Better check the enhancements first. Maybe the System has a solution."
He opened the System, eager to finally unlock [Devour].
To activate [Devour], he first had to unlock one of the basic offensive or defensive enhancements.
Damage Amplification and Basic Resistance—both solid, and both prerequisites for the other branches. Leonard lit them both up.
The last enhancement point naturally went into [Devour].
Unlike the two passive enhancements, [Devour] needed materials and had to be used actively.
With no plants and no space to test it, Leonard couldn't try out the new powers. All he could do was lie in bed and count sheep.
Sleep didn't come easily. His mind kept replaying what he'd seen that day—bloody, brutal, and overwhelming in every way.
Although his body was still that of a child, Leonard's soul was an adult's, and that strange mismatch made it all the harder for him to fall asleep.
"Sleep early. Tomorrow I'm going to learn magic from Mr. Ollivander," Leonard rubbed his face and told himself firmly before lying back on the bed.
...
The next morning at Ollivander's Wand Shop—
"William, did you not sleep well last night? You look terrible," Ollivander said in surprise when he saw Leonard.
Leonard yawned and waved his hand. "Had a nightmare, that's all. But it's fine. If you're ready, let's start."
"You're sure you're alright?" Ollivander clearly doubted his words. "I've got a bottle of Invigoration Draught here. Better drink it."
He pulled out a pale yellow potion and handed it to Leonard.
"Ah, thank you. Just what I needed." Leonard took it, forced himself not to think about the odd ingredients, and downed it in one gulp. Instantly, vitality surged through his body in waves.
"I feel much better," Leonard admitted. "How much for the potion? I'll pay."
"No need. You're here to help test the wand anyway. Don't worry about it—I'm not short on money." Ollivander waved it off. "Let's begin. Did you practice magic with the wand yesterday?"
"Yes," Leonard nodded.
"And? How was it?"
"A bit too much, honestly. I tried the Wand-Lighting Charm and nearly blinded myself," Leonard said truthfully, though leaving out when and why he'd used it.
"Oh? That's excellent news. It proves the wand does enhance magic." Ollivander's face lit up. "Go on, try it now."
"Here? Isn't that… unwise?" Leonard hesitated.
"It's fine. A bit of light won't bother me. I want to feel the amplification directly," Ollivander said without concern.
"Alright, but I suggest you close your eyes," Leonard warned kindly. He deliberately didn't aim at Ollivander, instead turning slightly to the side as he raised his wand.
"Lumos!"
A flood of dazzling light poured out of Ollivander's shop like a torrent.
