Chapter 54 - Chapter 54: One Strength Crushes Ten Techniques

Xiao Hai has a way to cure my poison?

Dugu Yan's playful expression froze instantly. She turned her head slowly toward Yang Yunhai's face, trying to see if this was a joke.

Her grandfather, Dugu Bo, had spent his whole life researching and cultivating poison. Even as a Titled Douluo famed for his poisonous martial soul, he had never managed to find a cure for her.

And yet Yang Yunhai, at such a young age, dared to claim he had a way. It was hard to believe.

But Yang Yunhai's serious expression showed he wasn't joking at all.

"Xiao Hai, do you really have a way?" The others all turned to stare as well. Yu Tianheng looked especially excited, blurting out anxiously.

"Xiao Hai, you're not joking, right?" Dugu Yan still couldn't believe it, asking again with a solemn face.

"Sister Yan, why would I lie to you?" Yang Yunhai rolled his eyes.

"Then tell me—what illness do I actually have?" Dugu Yan pressed, half joking.

"Passed down from your ancestors, born of your martial soul," Yang Yunhai answered without explaining too directly.

Dugu Yan's face changed at once. Her chin lifted, and she hurriedly asked, "Xiao Hai, you really have a way!?"

"Of course." Yang Yunhai nodded slightly, then shook his head. "But to cure it completely won't be simple. There is a way, but it's difficult to carry out. And your condition is special, Sister Yan—it will be even more complicated to treat."

"Xiao Hai, what method is it?" Dugu Yan went straight to the point.

Yang Yunhai smiled faintly. "Sister Yan, are you sure you want me to say it here?"

She froze, glanced at the people around, and quickly understood. Realization showed on her face as she replied with a slightly embarrassed tone, "Sorry, Xiao Hai, that was rude of me. After training, how about I come to your place for a meal?"

A treatment for a long-standing illness wasn't something to expose publicly. Her quick reaction showed she was careful. The others also revealed understanding looks, assuming she'd realized it would be impolite to make him announce a cure in front of everyone.

After all, who asks a doctor to lay bare all his methods in public?

"No problem, just another pair of chopsticks," Yang Yunhai answered casually.

"Xiao Hai, then I'll trouble you," Yu Tianheng added politely.

"It's fine. We're teammates and friends. This is how it should be." Yang Yunhai smiled, then looked around at the others. "Alright, it's getting late. Let's start training."

And so, the day's training began.

Time passed quickly, and by noon, Dugu Yan parted from Yu Tianheng and followed Yang Yunhai and Zhu Zhuqing back to the valley.

Soon, the wooden house was filled with the fragrance of food, and the three sat down at the table.

After eating, Zhu Zhuqing volunteered to clean the dishes, leaving Dugu Yan alone with Yang Yunhai.

"Xiao Hai, tell me quickly—what's your method?" Dugu Yan asked urgently as Zhu Zhuqing left.

"Sister Yan, to discuss a cure, we must first understand the source of the poison in your body." Yang Yunhai's expression grew serious. "To be honest, from the first time I saw you, I suspected you were poisoned. Your hair color and your eyes are abnormal—signs of poison reaching the organs. Of course, I couldn't be sure at first, until that time you suddenly reacted to the cold wind in the dormitory."

"Your reaction then clearly came from sudden pain in the head and the soles of your feet."

"The soles are where yin gathers, being the farthest from the heart with the weakest circulation. Thin flesh makes them poor at keeping warm. And since they constantly contact the ground, they're easily invaded by damp and cold. So, for those with deep poison, when it flares due to cold, the first place to ache is the sole of the foot."

'Thank you, Teacher Chrysanthemum's Annotated Human Anatomy—plus the original description of Dugu Bo's poison flaring in his head and feet. Put the two together, and I sound like a prophet. That's the power of pretending to be an expert. If Dugu Bo later disagrees, I can just say, sorry, I'm not skilled enough, maybe I got it wrong. The result is what matters, not the process.'

"And the headache is even worse," Yang Yunhai continued. "From what I know, that happens only when poison has already invaded the bones. Another reason I suspected you were poisoned was your martial soul—the Jade Phosphor Serpent. That's a poison-attribute beast martial soul."

"As far as I know, beast martial souls often carry residual toxins from the soul beasts their rings are taken from, transferring them into the host. Sister Yan, you're already a Soul Elder. If your rings were all from poison-type beasts, then you've already taken in three foreign poisons."

"In other words, toxins from the soul beasts transferred into your rings, then into your body—not toxins naturally generated by your martial soul."

"Three external poisons, mixed together—of course that becomes a hybrid poison, much stronger than a single toxin. And since your martial soul itself produces Jade Phosphor Serpent venom, if you use your soul skills often, or when you retract your martial soul, the venom seeps back into your body. That means four poisons mixed in you. The toxicity can be imagined."

"Add to that your age—your first ring must have been many years ago."

"So it's easy to see why the poison has sunk into your organs, even your bones. It might even have mutated from the mixture. That explains your unusual hair and eye color."

"Honestly, Sister Yan, I was shocked when I realized this. I thought it was a miracle you're still alive. That's why I used my martial soul's sensing ability to check your condition—to confirm my guess."

"And the result?" Dugu Yan asked quickly.

Yang Yunhai's reasoning was airtight, matching reality almost perfectly. She couldn't help but believe.

"It was even worse than I thought. Not four poisons, but many. And they've already mutated." Yang Yunhai said gravely. He had sensed her poison before—it was completely different from her martial soul's venom. It was obvious that the toxins in her body had mutated into a unique, deadly poison.

Who knew how many poisons had been mixed?

Worse, it had already mutated, meaning even identifying the original toxins would be useless. It had become something entirely new, still changing along with her body and every new soul ring.

No wonder Dugu Bo had never found a cure.

Thinking it over, Yang Yunhai realized: only Ice-Fire Tempering could solve this. By taking the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and the Infernal Delicate Apricot, her blood would carry the dual polar energies—like a miniature Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well—able to erode nearly any poison.

That was the very definition of one strength crushing ten techniques.

"This is why I said it was passed down from your forebears," Yang Yunhai added. "Honestly, Sister Yan, I suspect the poison in you had already mutated in your parents' generation, to the point where it could be passed on."

His tone was firm as he looked at her.

"Not my father—it was earlier. My father…" Pain flickered in Dugu Yan's eyes.

Her father had died shortly after obtaining a soul ring. Now, it seemed just as Yang Yunhai said: the poison mixed further, mutated, spiked in toxicity, and his body collapsed under it, killing him instantly.

The fact that she hadn't died yet really was a matter of luck.

"I'm sorry," Yang Yunhai said quietly, his own voice heavy.
