Chapter 49 - Business Trip

The assignment for the business trip came from Enmat Harbor.

At the same time as the human trafficking case was discovered in Tingen City, a similar situation arose in Enmat Harbor, East Chester County. The local Nighthawks intercepted an unmarked freighter, and its hold was also filled with slaves from the South Continent. However, the slaves in Enmat Harbor were not as fortunate as those in Tingen City. As soon as they were rescued, and before the Nighthawks could question them, these poor people all self-destructed.

It was a genuine self-destruction; the slaves' flesh seemed to swell up like balloons, then burst into fragments with a bang. The Sailors on the ship were also silenced in the same manner, and several Nighthawks were even caught in the explosions, suffering heavy casualties.

After the news reached the Goddess Church, its high-ranking officials determined that this incident was likely related to the Tingen City case and requested assistance from the Tingen City Nighthawks.

—Inside the Captain's office, Dunn Smith shared the news he had received from the Goddess Church with everyone.

That sounds dangerous.

"Excuse me, can I not go?"

Caesar asked Dunn seriously.

"Sorry, no."

Dunn replied just as seriously.

"Captain, I'm just a Sequence 9 support staff, it's not like you're sending me to my death, right?"

Caesar said with a bitter smile.

Another business trip, another county, and getting involved in such a dangerous matter. Being stabbed once was memorable enough, and this time the enemies were the type who directly created bombs, far more dangerous than what he encountered last time. Although he wouldn't back down from trouble, he also didn't want to actively seek out discomfort.

"This wasn't my arrangement."

Dunn rubbed his forehead, a rare look of helplessness on his face, "It was His Excellency Crestet, the High-Ranking Deacon; he specifically requested you."

Crestet Cesimir?

Caesar quickly recalled that stern face, and also the terrifying image of evil spirits wriggling in the gaps of his teeth.

"Why did that High-Ranking Deacon specifically choose me?"

Caesar was a bit puzzled; he hadn't provoked him. Or was it that he particularly thought highly of him?

"In the Enmat Harbor incident, the deceased all turned into Flesh bombs. This is a very characteristic ability of the Secrets Suppliant Pathway, a Flesh Magic used by Beyonders of the middle Sequences in the Secrets Suppliant Pathway." Dunn explained, "Therefore, His Excellency Crestet specifically sent me a telegram, requesting that I send you to assist with the investigation in Enmat Harbor."

Damn it, so that's how it is. Aurora Order, it's the Aurora Order again. Why are they involved in every bad thing! It seems it's because of my Pathway; who told you you're the only Secrets Suppliant in the Goddess Church?

"Alright. I understand."

Caesar cursed the Aurora Order ten thousand times in his heart and could only nod in agreement, "So when do I go?"

"Don't rush, you're not the only one going."

Dunn said with a smile, "Enmat Harbor is, after all, under another Nighthawks team. Going outside still requires our own people. So, to ensure your safety, I'm having Leonard and Klein go with you. Leonard has good strength, and Klein can provide support like divination."

Thank you, Captain. Although you have less hair, you are still a very good person.

Caesar felt a surge of emotion in his heart, looking left and right at his two colleagues standing next to him, finally understanding why Dunn had also called them into the office. Leonard still maintained his nonchalant, relaxed attitude, and Klein also didn't seem to mind going on a trip. Both of them agreed. They arranged to take the steam train to Enmat Harbor tomorrow morning.

After that, Dunn gave them some more instructions regarding the business trip, and seeing that they had understood everything, he dismissed them.

"I feel like the Aurora Order is haunting me."

After leaving the Captain's office, Caesar shook his head and complained to the two of them.

"Who told you that you're the only Secrets Suppliant in the entire Goddess Church?" Leonard said with a laugh, "To say something not quite appropriate, it's possible that in the future, all cases related to the Aurora Order across Loen will call on you."

"...May the Goddess bless us, please don't let that happen."

Caesar felt a headache just imagining himself traveling all over the country, and on such dangerous assignments, and even began to pray to the Goddess.

It was already after work hours. The three of them went out and found that, except for those on duty and on rotation, everyone else had already left.

"Then let's meet at the station tomorrow morning."

Leonard's route wasn't the same as the other two. After leaving the security company's main gate, he waved goodbye to them and leisurely walked away alone. Caesar and Klein were left to walk together to the street corner to wait for the public carriage back to Narcissus Street.

It was dusk, and the setting sun cast a golden hue over everything on Zoteland Street, making people and objects walking through it appear gilded.

"I really don't want to go on a business trip."

Caesar said sincerely, looking at the scenery before him.

"Just think of it as a trip."

Klein advised with a smile. He suddenly remembered something and spoke up to remind, "Oh, by the way, Caesar. Didn't you and your sister agree to go see a show this weekend? Are you unable to go again now?"

Ah, there was that too.

Caesar was stunned, and then an even greater sense of displeasure welled up in his heart.

— — — —

Previously, because of the Lanevus case, Caesar had already broken an appointment once. Now, violating the agreement for a second time made him feel somewhat embarrassed. After returning home, he helplessly and awkwardly told his sister that he couldn't go to the show again.

"Oh, I see. I'll go pack your luggage then."

Unexpectedly, Cecilia was not angry. Instead, her first thought was about Caesar's arrangements for tomorrow, "We don't have a suitcase at home, shouldn't we hurry and buy one before the shops close?"

"Sister, aren't you angry at all?"

He couldn't help but ask.

"Why would I be angry?"

Cecilia looked at him strangely, "This isn't something you can decide. Instead of wasting time on such meaningless things, it's better to do something productive. Besides, it's just a matter of waiting a few more days; we can just watch it together when you get back."

At this point, she stood up and looked Caesar directly in the eyes with her clear, azure gaze, "More importantly , Caesar now that you are healthy and got a good job , you should think about getting girlfriend and getting married later."

Sister, I'm 18 . I think I will wait few more years

Caesar sighed with emotion in his heart and said, "You make a lot of sense. Alright then, I'll go buy a suitcase now."

After leaving the door of Narcissus Street 6, he didn't rush to take a carriage, but first walked to No. 2 on the same row, which was Klein's home.

After ringing the doorbell, a reserved young maid opened the door.

"Excuse me, who are you?"

She leaned against the door, asking cautiously.

Klein had told him before that his family had recently hired a maid who, in addition to her work, was also learning cooking skills from him. The young maid had only been with the Moretti family for a few days and did not recognize Caesar.

Should my family also hire a maid? Caesar pondered in his heart, and then said to the young maid, "Please tell Mr. Moretti that his colleague is visiting."

"What's wrong?"

An adult male voice came from behind the door. Looking past the maid, he saw a man with thinning hair, whose eyebrows and eyes seemed somewhat similar to Klein's. This person was Klein's elder brother, Benson Moretti.
