Chapter 45 - The Thruul

Valkun: As he marched down the stairs, a force of black smoke quickly flashed across his face. He stood still, staring down at Multhi. "He's right there-" He was talking to nothing, making Multhi raise an eyebrow, but did not back down, pointing his staff up at him. "Fine...but I won't walk away just like that." He held his hand up, closing it into a fist; an orange rune flashed in front of him.

Multhi: "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!" Frost built up over the staff as he grew angrier, his hands shaking.

Valkun: He smiled widely, "You know, there is a planet on the outskirts of the elemental timelines, named Galtexia." He took some steps back up the stairs, placing his hands behind his back. "This planet's atmosphere can dampen or even cut off people's powers, and the creatures of this planet are extremely dangerous because of this factor. One of them, the Thruul, is especially notable due to its extremely high adaptation levels as it found a way to adapt to its harsh atmosphere and planet."

He tilted his head slightly, watching Multhi's grip tighten. "Most beings who step foot there panic when their power goes silent. They crumble. They die screaming." His eyes burned brighter. "But the Thruul did not."

Multhi: The staff pulsed, blue crystals flaring, "Why are you telling me any of this?"

Valkun: He opened a portal, stepping back into it, "Thought you would like a lesson before meeting it." He closed the portal quickly.

Multhi: The sounds of heavy breathing caught his attention. He turned around quickly, pointing the staff at something balled up against its knees. "What.."

Thruul: A creature with black, hardened skin and dull gray scales sat heavily, its three tails uncoiling. Two tails ended in bladed tips, while the center tail dragged a spiked club. It rose to over eight feet tall, its muscular body planted on clawed feet that dug into the stone. Its face resembled a horse-like skull, with stretched, leathery skin and sharp teeth visible beneath. As it lifted its head, the skin peeled back, revealing a jagged skull and snapping teeth. The lower jaw split, allowing three ridged tongues to lash outward.

Massive, demon-like horns curved back from its skull, framing a thick spike at the back of its head. The creature exhaled slowly, breath rattling through its bones as it tensed, ready to move. It looked around, sniffing the air. From this observation, it appeared blind. Small holes uncoiled on the side of its head, it kicked snow toward Multhi, and it roared in his direction.

Multhi: "What the hell?!" He blasted a beam of icy energy straight into the creature's chest, causing it to stumble back.

Thruul: It looked down at its chest, sniffing the air, and its body began cracking, glowing a bright orange. As it roared, a massive heatwave shot out from its body, melting any of the ice that attached itself to its body. It ran quickly on all fours into Multhi, stabbing its horns into his torso, throwing him to the side.

Multhi: He landed hard behind a rock. He looked down at his wound, using a beam of ice to seal off the wound. As he heard the creature stabilize itself, he covered his mouth in an attempt to hide himself from it. "This thing can adapt to anything?!" He screamed within his own mind.

Thruul: The skin on its head went over its skull, creating an armored helmet for itself. It stood still for a moment, only able to hear the passing wind of a snowstorm. It dragged its claw against its bloody horns, feeling the blood in its hand before tossing it forward, and the holes on its head rippled. The sound waves bounced around, outlining everything for the creature until it felt a heartbeat of energy behind the rock. It roared, punching through the rock, knocking Multhi away.

Multhi: He rolled across the ice, skidding to a stop as shards tore at his cloak. He forced himself up on one knee, coughing, frost spilling from his mouth. The ground beneath him froze solid in a wide circle as his pulse spiked. "Echolocation..." he muttered to himself, trying to steady his breathing.

Thruul: It planted its clawed feet into the ice, testing the surface as fractures spread outward. The skin on its head retracted, and its lower jaw split apart with a wet crack, the three ridged tongues snapping free and tasting the air. A low growl rumbled from deep within its chest as its skin darkened, adjusting once more.

Multhi: He raised his staff, blue crystals flaring brighter as snow spiraled around him. A wall of jagged ice surged up between them, but his hands trembled.

Thruul: It charged without hesitation. One-bladed tail carved through the ice wall like paper while the clubbed tail slammed down, shattering the frozen ground. The beast burst through the wall, horns lowered, its roar drowning out the wind as it closed the distance again. Its body grew hot again, sending out a shockwave of burning hot energy, burning a bit of Multhi's skin and melting all of the ice near it, completely getting rid of the snowstorm surrounding them.

Multhi: "The more I attack this thing, the more it will adapt! Can I even use the living flow on such a beast!... Ugh, only one way to find out." He took a deep breath in as the beast quickly approached, the energy surrounded his form, and as he reopened his eyes, he stood ready for the Thruul, but it did not come. It stopped in its tracks.

Thruul: It stared at Multhi, its skin going back over its skull, it heard the snowstorm in the distance go quiet, it knew something had changed.

Multhi: His eyes widened, trying to keep a grip on the energy. Did this thing know what it was doing, even though it couldn't see? Right! It can't see! "AHHHH!"

Thruul: It remained still, continuing to stare forward at him. Multhi began to shake as the energy he was holding became more and more unstable, but the creature did not step closer.

Multhi: His hands began to shake as he gripped his staff. The energy surrounding him flickered, but then he suddenly felt something rapidly approaching from behind and fired the built-up energy behind him from the tip of his staff. He noticed that it was just the creature's tail, buried all the way under the ground, to attack from behind.

Thruul: It made a clicking sound, pulling its tail up from underneath Multhi, flinging him up into the air. It broke the ice from its tail as it jumped up to Multhi mid-air, slamming him down onto the floor. As it flew down towards him, a massive vine burst from the ground, launching it out of the atmosphere into space.

Multhi: He panted, looking at where he felt the energy come from. It was Alces standing over him with a pissed off expression on his face, but before he could react. He passed out.
