The day was slightly overcast, and the scent of held-back rain filled the air. Aveline decided to return to the park, which now felt like the only place offering her peace. She didn't expect to see anyone, yet her heart secretly hoped someone would come.
And sure enough, a moment later, Yanzhi appeared from behind a cluster of trees, wearing the smile that always made Aveline inexplicably nervous.
"You always come here when the clouds are hanging low," he said, sitting down on the same bench. "Do you like the grey sky?"
"Not the sky itself," Aveline replied softly. "But the feeling it brings. As if the whole world is silent with me."
They sat side-by-side, silent yet comfortable. Few words were needed.
Yanzhi pulled a small cloth from his pocket, revealing some homemade snacks. "I tried to cook... though the result isn't as grand as a palace's."
Aveline laughed softly. "In that case, I'll be your honest taste-tester."
They ate together, exchanging light stories about childhood and places they wished to visit. Yanzhi’s sincerity was undeniable, and Aveline saw it all. She realized she wasn't just talking to a commoner.
"You know, Yanzhi..." Aveline said carefully, "Every time I'm with you, I feel... seen as a person. Not a title. Not a past mistake."
Yanzhi looked down, trying to hide his smile.
"Perhaps that's because I'm searching for the same thing, Aveline."
However, from a distance, a pair of eyes watched them. A palace attendant assigned to tail Yanzhi began to record everything.
"The Crown Prince is beginning to show serious interest... in this mysterious girl. This will soon reach the Emperor's ears."
A genuine relationship was blooming, yet their sincerity was also being captured by the eyes of power.
Aveline :
"What would you do if one day you had to choose... between your feelings or your responsibility?"
Yanzhi (to himself) :
"And if I choose you... will you stay by my side when you know who I truly am?"
